This is a bass. Tuned EADG. It has a piezo pickup system. The spruce top has more punch and note . The Acacia and Mahogany basses are warmer and have deeper bass tone.
I'm told the strings have to bend over the bridge at a certain angle to give enough down pressure dor the pickup to work properly. I have a fretless hollowbody and a fretted solidbody. They are awesome. I have videos up. Please check them out and give a thumbs up if you like.
I have been having issues with the pickups, (mostly when the u bass is going through an amp/or DI i can;t get any signal from the G string!!) have any suggestions?I would greatly appreciate it, thanks Adam!!!
Hello Mike, thanks for this video! I am interested in acquiring this to my collection, but one question: what is the vital difference between the 100% mahogany and the spruce top Kala's? Does the mahogany bass have a deeper sound? Thanks in advance for anyone's response!
I got to try one of these today at a local guitar store. I am normally a bass player but damn I want one of these now... unplugged it actually sounds great for such a small body
I wonder what it sounds like unplugged. After all it is hollow body acoustic type instrument. Does it need to be plugged in? Does it resonate worth it's wood when not electrically amplified? Oh well maybe someone who purchases one will post a review and answer some of these obvious questions.
Kala Brand Music Co. is developing these and the one shown in the video is the first prototype. We are in the middle of producing these and I hope to have them available sometime in July and August.
I suppose that "Oo-koo-lay-lay" Is the way you say it? Well... this guy just tested this ukulele for Kala (I'm not sure if he's with the company or not... he probably is) Ukulele... which is a very respectable brand... and seeing as he is proficient enough at the Ukulele and obviously knows a bit about them... I think he is entitled to call it whatever he wants...

Why did they cut a square into the back? Couldn't there have been an alternative method?
bammbamm12 4 months ago
The strings are Poly-Urethane, a synthetic rubber compound. They are not silicone based.
kalabrandmusic 7 months ago
are the strings steel or that acrylic stuff?

Just ordered my U-Bass 2. Been a while saving for it, so really looking forward to when it arrives next week!

Congrats on your UBass purchase. They are tuned just like a regular Bass guitar
E A D G from the top looking down.

Hi. I just got one of these. Too cool. Could you do a video on tuning them....please?
Thanks.

The mahogany has a deeper sound in my opinion. The spruce top has a brighter, punchier sound. Both have a good sound.

Who would have thought? UBass -Bass guitar on a baritone ukulele body 20 inch scale 16 fret...
designermite 1 year ago
Hi--The UBass is tuned like a standard bass EADG So it is much lower pitched
than a ukulele. With these strings it cannot be tuned like a ukulele. thanks

could a bass uke be tuned to standard ukulele tuning?

When are we going to see these in stores?
jburtonca 2 years ago
We have some coming in towards the end of August. We have pre-sold the first
100 pieces to stores. It is a first come first served basis. They may be hard to find initially because many end-users have already bought the these.

is there a possibility of having my baritone converted to a Ubass?
ezekill22 2 years ago
It would be difficult to do. The U-Bass bridge, nut, tuning machines are much different than a typical baritone. The strings feed up thru the bridge.
6487upt 2 years ago
very true. i wouldnt know who would be able to do it anyway. plus it might be too costly aha
ezekill22 2 years ago
The Bass has some acoustic sound but not enough to play with others. It is meant to be amplified.

does this ukulele sound good playing chords, or can you recommend a decent uke for playing deep chords on?
happytalk345 2 years ago
Since this is tuned like a normal bass guitar ukulele chords do not work. I would think a baritone uke would give you the deepest sound.

Standard Bass tuning EADG

What's the tuning of this Ubase?
matsuhiro1 2 years ago
This is a fretted version. We will have a fretless version with the fret lines as well.
6487upt 2 years ago
Is the UBass fretted or lined fretless? It's hard to tell from the video, but my guess is that it's fretless.
jburtonca 2 years ago
So whats the tuning?!
iluffmysaxophone 2 years ago
It's Standard Bass tuning
EADG

Looks amazing, will these be available in the UK? Really want one as it'd be ace in my ukulele band The Rinky Dinks!!
Any chance of a 5 string version? Otherwise would it be possible to string it BEAD?
therinkydinksbassist 2 years ago
I don't have a 5 string yet but we are starting to talk about that. We dont have the low B string yet that is one issue.
We do have a distributor in the UK so they should be available May-June

Amazing, will keep my eyes peeled then - thanks!
