  • you might spend a lot less money on someone elses attempts at taking care of your pain if you take care of yourself better.

  • BS!!!

  • I went to London. The difference of pain relief lasted for a short period over last 3 sessions, then back again after couple of weeks.

Longer term I found self help with somatics and Feldenkrais much more useful. It took a clear diagnosis that I suffered from a right pelvic drop so I can now target my efforts to gradually releasing my short left leg/pelvis. This is now improved - I still get misalignment in my mid and upper back but can correct this using one or two of the spiral pathways.

  • this is good

  • this reeks of BS

  • Does the lady wear a gown just for the vid?Just wondering.Much prefer any therapist's hands, fingers, elbows to have contact w/my skin,&not the fabric of my shirt.

  • I've heard this works at relieving pain. Yes, ROLFING. The more I learn about Massage in school... it's all about Fascia!!!

  • ok, honestly, rolfing? The rolpher? come on now.

  • @kimvlaar i know, i dont see anything special about any of these techniques

  • Hahaha anyone else come here because you though it said "Introduction to Rofling"

  • @henryk8675309

i came here to look at some feet, yum

  • I dont know all the other nonconstructive comments here. I'm from Singapore and I just for my first session of Rolfing and boy does it make a different. Yes in just one session!

  • rolfing is great. I like light axis healing, it works for me.

  • I'm 19 and I have intense pain in my lower back. I know it's not good. I need something like this.

  • does he have "gum" in his mouth?

you might be interested in what he's chewing on.

  • you have a translator.

    "fix" is an interesting word.

well life balance, you understand your flesh in a certain way

the genie is permanently out of the bottle. The RI has some of the technology

  • I must agree that the high tuition and full-time schooling is hard for us people who work and have other responsibilities, but there are many schools who teach Idas principles. The Guild, KMI, Heller Institute, IPSB in San Diego... Rolfing is to Structural Integration as Kleenex is to tisssue. Its a brand name and they can ask for more money because of that brand.

  • So to clear this up... Rolfing is a movement re-education modality. Ida rolfs famous phrase, "Put things where they ought to be and ask for movement" allows the client to do the healing and your Rolfer is just a conduit for the client. Helping our clients find new and more expansive ways of moving allows them new freedoms of movement.

  • Can I get a translator for johngums post please? What the hell is that guy saying? I think his name is gum because he types like his miouth is full of gum! Ha!

  • "she is creating space between the tissues..." translation--> "she is creating space between you and your money..."

  • yeah, Im the best "Rolfer" in the Southwest/. Good technology.

Their Fascist shit is disgusting.I like structure, but their fasicst bullshit distrurbs me.

Funny. An orgnization filled with touch, Dogma. And what knows else.

  • @LegPains really? everyone i've ever spoken to about it while i was in massage school said it pretty much

  • im 21 years old

  • Over ten thousand dollars to become a certified Rolfer is very extreme for a technique that has a "word of mouth" reputation. I've heard straight from a horses mouth that 10 sessions isn't even needed if you're good at what you do. Nobody is imbalanced enough to warrant ten sessions, NOBODY. But I guess if you have to pay that tuition back I'd try that trick too! There are so many other ways that the fascia can be addressed. Don't fall for the trademarked name and soothing videos.

  • @gumbionics

for someone just Using their hands , im surprised Anyone can radically alter structure Positive way in ONLY 10 sessions ! So your comment that 10 is prob too many doesnt make any sense. If someone is in Chronic pain with bad posture over many years you seriously think only 4 sessions of 1 hour are going to fix 10 years of improper alignment ? NO WAY

  • @LegPains There is no "fixing" in a bodyworkers field. To believe you can "fix" someone is wrong to begin with, so the fact that you even believe in "fixing" something or someone is beyond me. Chronic bad posture is more mental than anything, the person has to want to improve, so to believe you can go and fix that posture in any scenario is wrong. There are plenty of ways to address fascia, but the most important ways involve a meeting between the client and therapist to find release.

  • @gumbionics

How else can the Fascia be addressed ?

  • @gumbionics hey gum, i had 11 sessions of rolfing and i found out that after the series, i became even more imbalanced thats y im feeling very sad now...

  • how can she see the patient's posture and alignment with that huge gown in the way

  • @mettabee agreed!

  • it looks like it would make me bruise lol. i bruise easily. but i would still love to try it

  • @LaurenAlexandra711

Go for it, just find a person on the Rolfing directory hun

  • That patient is very pretty.

  • I spent over £1000 for treatment with a trained Rolfer - pain relief lasted a couple of weeks beyond final session then back to same old pain!

    Did not work for me!!!

  • @borgilskye

It did work for you, you didn't work with IT !!! you have to make the proper adjustments in your life that are CAUSING those pains... if you continue bad habbits the pain WILL return. i'll bet your diet sucks

  • @borgilskye

It did work for you, you didn't work with IT !!! you have to make the proper adjustments in your life that are CAUSING those pains... if you continue bad habbits the pain WILL return. i'll bet your diet sucks too

  • @TheMchandler45

    Are you a rolfer ?

  • Yes your ignorant comments about sum up things. I continue to do kundalini yoga at a level I can cope with, use somatics to deal with excess tension, and my diet is porridge, cod liver oil or fish, lots of vegetables and gogi berries, pomegranite and other fruit, nuts & wholegrain etc. I meditate every day. Need I say more. You can't conceive Rolfing might not work. Get real...get off your high horse, find someone else to harrass

  • @borgilskye

you should eat the Organic raw 80 10 10 diet, watch vids on channel

    LIFE REGENERATOR

    THE FRUITARIAN

    DURIAN RIDERS

    RUNNING RAW

  • @LegPains

    Agreed : )

  • @borgilskye

Did you have any MRIs ?

  • @borgilskye Where did you for your rolfing? Also, does your body look different (more aligned?) What was your pain?

  • At the sound of my voice, you will fall deeper and deeper into a calm and rejuvenating sleep.

5 - you feel relaxed and calm....

4 - your breathing is deeper...

3 - you feel your body relax even more, your eyes are begining to close

2 - you begin to fall softly into peaceful sleep

    1 - Zzzz zzzzz. zzzz . . .

  • My god. I want to try this!

  • That looks like a rich lady.

  • I had Rolfing with Alan Richardson in UK a few years ago - Wow !

I had Scoliosis - my rib cage stuck out, after session 5 my rib cage had moved a huge amount. Before Rolfing I felt like my arms.. were all separate bits and pieces. After I felt like I had one whole body and that I lived in it

Alan recommended Theraflex to me - this moved most of the rest of the curve in my spine back into place. Rolfing and Theraflex together - it's an awesome combination.

  • @DamienMearns01

    what is thera flex ?

  • @LegPains

It's best if you do a You Tube search on it - there are several videos - it's a machine the moves your back.

I've got a Facebook "Scoliosis Cures and Pain Relief" with amazing before and after pics.

  • i wonder if theres also lol-ing and lmao-ing

  • Where's the wobble board????

  • I love all the comments from experts who basically know jack shite about the subject matter. Carry on, carry on ..........

  • @JacanaProductions

what do you know about rolfing ?

  • The exact moment where rolfing loses any possible plausibility is "hold their emotions"

  • @AspiringPotato But the phrase "relaxed connection to the ground" was good?

  • @AllMySeasons

I don't know, tbh "rolf" raises too many eyebrows to ever bring back down.

  • @AspiringPotato yah its quite funny. initially its quite painful and you feel like rolfing. then after between session 6 and 10 you start to feel much, much better.

  • @RKGOLF

    rolfing = pseudoscience

  • @AspiringPotato Dude, its a goddamn massage. Relax. Maybe you should go get one.

  • rolfing = unbelievable pain

  • @qtpa2t087 have you had it done?

  • @qtpa2t087 LOL!! That is true! The first 5 sessions are absolute torture.

  • @qtpa2t087

Depends on who you go to, i went to someone in PA and felt just Like a normal regular Massage, zero pain in fact it felt way too soft and weak !

  • That Chick's toenails are long ick! she knew someone was gonna have to look at those talons something should have been done!

  • Introduction to ROFL'ing?

    Step 1. Lie on floor

Step 2. Proceed to laugh hysterically

Step 3. Roll in a circular motion

    = ROFL

  • I am "ROFL-ing" at your post!

    Good one!

  • the description sounds enticing, but i have a sense this partly works because of the "playing doctor" effect

  • this stuff works

  • lol blame society films has a different meaning

    of this

  • That woman's toe nails are ridiculously long.

Other than that, it does look pretty relaxing.

  • That was SO relaxing to listen to and watch!!

  • @That70sHeidi

  • Rolling On Laughing Floor

  • DUDES im gonna go get ROLFED!

  • The comments are funny. I do structural integration. The results are amazing. Especially the core work and getting all the muscles of the face worked on. If your session is painful, tell your therapist. It's ok to speak up.

  • @angelbe88

Do you still practice Rolfing ?

  • @LegPains

Technically yes, but presently I'm in the process of moving to another city so I'm not working.

  • I had my second Rolfing session today. I had such bad pain in my shoulder and neck after an injury that I could barely lean my head to the left. I'm sore from the session (it does hurt, but not terribly), but I can tell my shoulders are straighter, and I can now bend my neck. It's working well for me, but you can expect to need some Advil that night. Not for the weak of heart, but totally worth it!

  • @spershall

give us an update on your situation ?

  • I had a course of Rolfing today and yesterday, at a yoga session. It was done to me, and instantly I was more flexible. It is really amazing and something that me and my partner will do to each other to always be in good shape and as a compliment to yoga.

  • Man.......those Knuckles down the back at 7:30 looks very relaxing. I could use some of that.

  • What is the purpose of such therapy?

  • Realeasing of adherenses of tissues (namely fascia) and correction of imbalances in posture. Aditionally the learning of correct ways to move.

  • I had one rolfing session and it was SO painful, there was NO way I could have continued with the torture. Bowen Therapy however was so immediately helpful to me. Go figure.

  • @Anatolia2

    what is Bowen Therapy ?

  • lmaofing

  • @choices234 I liked it too and became trained with Joseph Heller. After practicing more than 10 years, I found the limitation. It cann't deal with disabilities and genetic problems. I wanted to help MS, autism, dwarfism, paralysis, diabetes, brain stroke. I wanted to be fit to perform at Olympic level. But it cann't. it deals with connective tissues, but not the cause of all problems. If you treat the cause, all sufferings will disappear. homepages. woosh. co. nz / whitelotus

  • very nice

  • ROTFL

  • LOL

  • I'm very much interested in Rolfing. One reason is that I have tight hamstrings and therefore, can not fully enjoy particular asanas. The second reason is that I obviously am repressing emotions - I don't know what but a aura photo indicated very low energy in the 2nd chakra.

How much each session, on average cost and what is the interval of time between each session?

  • I'm a professional rofl'er!

  • @melonisic

    How old are you ?

  • 100% pure snake oil.

  • I was rolfed back in the 80s. It hurt like hell and left me an EMOTIONAL WRECK for several months! I guess that in the long run I benefited from it, but I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy and would NEVER go through it again. Find out as much about this as you can before going through it yourself.

  • I can understand it hurting but how did it leave you an emotional wreck?

  • That's something I've been trying to understand for twenty years. It causes different reactions in different people but in my case it released a lot of suppressed bad feelings that I had been carrying around for decades. I suppose this is a good thing but it was far too drastic for me. I know my initial comment seemed pretty negative, but it bothers me that this possible "down side" of rolfing is so rarely mentioned.

  • @Flashfink i had rolfing few months back and had bad experience with it! i became skinny all over!! my arms my chest my legs everything....my frame become smaller also...posture became bad and back hurts...i felt unnatural; when i walk also! does it happen to u? is it normal?

  • @Flashfink You call that a DOWN side? Many people spend decades in psychotherapy to release those suppressed emotions and you got them out as a free bonus! So now that you are free of those, are you now going to spend the next several decades carrying around new negative emotions by resenting that this release was "too drastic"?

  • Sometimes injury and other physical things hold onto emotions, it doesn't seem to make sense at first, but then it totally does. For example, someone who is overweight might be very very sensitive to anything going on in their abdomen.

When I had my first rolfing session, i had a rape flashback. It was really emotional, but I have an amazing rolfer that 'd very used to it. It's most important to talk about what you're experiencing through ever step, I feel.

  • Interesting remark this of yours. Although I cannot evaluate what the problem was, I think one of the scopes of Rolfing is psychological and this pain you felt should've been taken into consideration by the therapist.

  • @Flashfink

hi flashfink! i had rolfing few months back and i had bad experience!!i become skinnier everywhere,,,,my frame became smaller and my posture became worse! i couldn't felt natural at all..back hurts and everywhere hurts! did urs happen too?my chest become smaller also waist also smaller....sigh is that normal? now i just wish my body will go back to before...

  • i have naturally over pronating feet. can rolfing help?

  • I've found it works for just about everything. It might take a few sessions though.

  • Do you think it could help my foot problems?

  • Yes :D But I'm not a doctor or anything, I've just had it done and it's amazing. Try and get someone who's old school, if you can. I've heard that it's gotten soft :/

  • rolfing sessions are $100 per session (around)generally you go through the "10 series" where you get them around 2 wks apart til you have done10..usually this will be anough with maybe 1/year to stay balanced depending on the person but a very thorough evaluation is taken before any session happens & then the after evaluation is usually photographed for easier viewing of changes within the bodies structure..i have read about this for years hope this helps

  • Thanks starbust013 for your informative comment, and Mazurmedia for such an enlightening vid. I've had a tightness in my chest that began when I had a bike accident . It makes my breathing difficult althoug pulmonary function tests and chest x-rays (and all western medicine dr.s I've seen) indicate my lungs are fine; inhalers don't help either. I've got a feeling my sternum and/or connective tissues got depressed or altered slightly . Has anyone with a similar injury found rolfing to help?

  • sounds like a rib is out of place. is there sharp pain when you take a big deep breath?

  • @Gmarcus8 Thanks for writing back Gmarcus8. Yeah I get either a pain when i take a deep breath or my lungs/chest simply 'refuses' expand to what it used to do.

Sometimes I can "trick" the air in if I'm relaxed and take it in slowly. But certainly not when I'm on the go.

If a rib is out of place, would it have been obvious on the x-ray (the dr. said the x-ray wasn't taken that well). Sorry to be using you guys as my doctor. Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

  • Yes. I had a similar case with a client whose car was hit by a train. It took 3 sessions to reintegrate the ribs to allow for full breath.

  • hi i have a long history of asthma and breathing problems and the first session helped immensely...have u tried it yet?

  • Thanks!!!

  • Does anyone know where in Boston they may have some seminars on this..?

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I actually do alot of these moves already but I need to slow down a bit. The neck releases are especially important to my clients. I give a neck stretch to the side as well and with both hands flat work the scalenes too. Good info!

  • I read the title as "Rofling"

  • never heard of this before today....it looks very relaxing

  • Rolfing is easier on the massage therapist's body. Other Massage Modalities can have the same effect maybe even more than this modality. The introduction of Rolfing to clients who are used to the traditional Massage Therapy is harder to achieve. It is best to get a client who never received a therapeutic massage from anyone

  • Watch this!!!

    Really powerful "pushing hands".

Is that kind of Tai Chi???

    Amazing!!

    "TAONAMICS - Kampfsystem"

  • Another nice video. Thank you for putting it on here.

  • Why would you have your patient dressed in a gown thereby preventing you from seeing your patient more clearly? If you can't see your patient how can you be sure what is going on with them? This is patient modesty, or fear or being sued, gone too far. Other than that, Rolfing is a great treatment and the rest of this video shows a practitioner who appears to know what they are doing.

  • Most certainly Rolfing shouldn't be performed with the patient wearing a gown, maybe this has been the case only for this video presentation. Usually men wear briefs and women two pieces bathing suit or so.

  • I agree, good point. Mind you, I have heard of some osteopaths and chiropractors who treat patients while dressed or in gowns. I really don't know how they manage that successfully!

  • massage

  • Having cloth on is more than common, shiatsu, and many others

  • prolly just for the video.

  • @stocks26 I don't remember being so covered up when I was Rolfed in the late 80s...but then again, as you could see from video, the focus is on feeling the sections of muscles and fascia that the practitioner is working on so it really doesn't seem necessary to see the entire body nearly naked.

  • i thought it was introduction to R.O.F.L-ing. as in ' rolling on floor laughing'. lol. guess i was wrong!

  • me too!

  • Its important that no two rolfers are alike and the same goes for patients. I would include more breath, active movement, proper alignment does not require bolsters. For some individuals bolsters may be required, but not for this patient.

  • cool

  • Is the rolfer trained in proper body mechanics for self care; because witnessing her work with broken wrists worries me in the desire to study this modality. I can't see a career of longevity applying pressure with broken wrists.

  • i love all ur videos

  • Client is supposed to have a Bolster under the patella to help increase circulation and support the LL.

  • I dont know why they would show the treatment done incorectly I am Dr.Salazar do not try this at home may damge yourself or others

  • Looks kind of amateur-ish, the client is hardly breathing... and the person can´t release unless she´s breathing properly !

  • I wouldn't say the performer is amateurish. She does look hypnotised, though. Either that, or she can't be bothered. May be the end of the day!

  • Where did she learn Rolfing ? Is she new ? I thought the client is supposed to have her other leg bent while she´s working on the straight leg, to support the lumbar spine ?!

  • Yeah, who is she? And when was this film made?

  • who is the Rolfer in this video?
