this is hands down one of my favorite songs from Godspell. I grew up with this movie and I also saw the new Broadway play today and it was absolutely beautiful. perfect song!
So thankyou for posting .Great to see this St Mathew's gospel version ; a paeon to the human voice , committment ,vulnerablity to dare , soar and our interdependence. I shall like this at my own funeral. I saw the show in Auckland, N.Z in about 1978 , it has never left me.
My Son played Jesus in the school production of Godspell .I went every night .he was just 16 he is now a fine young man of 28 it always brings a tear to my eye love this song !!
I love this song and imo this is the best song in the film and kate is so sexy why carn't females look like this now she is a total babe and can sing as well
@oMOTHo I read this from an atricle that Peggy Gordon wrote: The Pebble is a test of will, and calling it dare is her growing commitment to Jesus. Hope that helps!
emmm question i posted some clips from godspell and all of them got blocked for copyright wtf how does this clip pass through youtube. its out of order...
It was in the divine plan! As a Jewish Woman I speak for Mary Mag. Regardless of what they judged her for, Who are we? Meer Humans! Jesus was told and instructed to do this. He asked for the Cup to be taken from his lips, But As the Son of the Almighty, He Obayed what his Father told him. HE NEVER SAID HE WAS GOD! I understand the message. Please People Try and put yourselves in his shoes! Obey the 613, most people can't obey the 10 commandments. Try :-)
I love the guitar in this ! it's so clean ! none of that "scree" when the fingers slide from key to key. Who ever is doing the guitar on this .. WOW !
Hi Tom6093, The greatest ;/Commandment is Love the Lord your God with All of our Heart Soul Mind and Strength and Love our Neighbor as our selves- one these two commandments ALL of the Law and Prophets hinge(rest) Then before He was arrested, Jesus said to US, A new commandment I give to you ... Love one another the way that I have Loved you! This is the Gospel. We are so human that it's hard for us to accept even the simple Love that God gives us. This is the reason for the "law".
@alldadsunited The reason for the law is to wake us up to our sin. The reason for Christ dying is to wash us from our sin. In Mark 3:34-35 Jesus tells us who belongs to God the Father - Those who do the will of my Father in Heaven". Just follow the three Greatest Commands. Love the Lord our God with ALL of our heart Soul Mnind and Strength, Loveour neighbor as our selves (our neighbor is EVERYONE in our lives and path) and Love one another the way that I Love you. 1 -2 - 3
Show is being revived in NY in the fall. Last year I went to the place where they round the corner at the end and had my picture taken there. So cool. I loved the movie when I was a teen. I was depressed and the movie would lift my spirits. Today I still like it although I find it somewhat overbearing in its goofy enthusiasm. Victor Garber said on Fresh Air on NPR that he never watches it anymore and I can sort of relate.
@Calcium1857 Back in the late 70's I met Katie in a piano bar I was working in the Chicago area. She was a sweetheart. I wonder where she is. I met her parents too. She'd have to be in her 50's now. If you're out there Katie, I think of you now and then. Hope you're well. Joel Barry
This song (all of them really!) gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it... Being a part of it for a high school play was probably one of the most magical experiences I've ever had. I love this so much!
the back of the LP cover from the 1970's has text that describes the creative origins of Godspell. The author starts with a quote from Harvard Univ Divinity School's famed scholar Archibald McLeish about the joys of the ministry of Jesus Christ on Earth, and the importance of infusing our own spiritual journey with that joyous celebration of the life of the son of our Heavenly Father. There's alot more to it. If you're at Half Price Books just look up the LP and read away.
Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Oh GY!BE, i love you <3
I've always loved this song, and I just love Godspell altogether. And please don't think I'm dumb, but I'm not really sure what this song means.... I really would love to know. If someone could help me out, that'd be so great. <3
@emyblueish This, to me , is about a lifetime friendship with (and commitment to) God. It's really all of the disciples telling Jesus they want to walk with Him, though they know it will be challenging. Yet, it's a celebration of that journey in His presence.
@TheProactiveCreative It's more. There are three Greek words to describe the presence and ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives. They are translated "on" (when special empowering is needed), "in" (the abiding, residing presence within a believer), and "along side" (when the Spirit comes along side us similar to the way Christ did for the disciples on the road to Emmaus). Jesus is Emmanuel -- God With Us, and the Holy Spirit is His abiding presence in every believer.
My religion teacher showed this to us and my friend asked if Jesus and John and everyone else were on drugs....... My religion teacher put tape on his mouth so he wouldnt talk anymore.....
This is the only VHS tape that I purchasted and have loaned it to the high school in ohio so that they could get the clothing correct when they did the play Godspell .They did a great job only changed the word( KEDS )in the part where "I read feet" to( NIKE)
Always liked this movie a lot more than J.C. Superstar........................the latter just didn't do it for me, for some reason................the songs are better in Godspell. I DO like the rock opera version of J.C.S., though.
Tom: no. Reread what I wrote, and then read it for yourself. I used to think the same thing because I believed what others told me. But then I read what is actually written and thought - "oh well, yeah! That makes perfect sense!"
OK over half the population is divorced including me bc he cheated with a 15 yr ol so he went to jail and i wasnt abt to stay married to a pedophile and so going to a lutherin church they were teaching my 2 young daughters that mommy was going to hell for her sin of divorce it scared the crap outa them so now i go to a catholic church and am less judged by ppl..Priest told me GOD still has a plan for me and sees no reason for GOD to turn his back on one of his creations so quickly so divorce in
@Kryslyne28 some situations like mine or child abuse or spousal abuse GOD forgives...I was taught GOD forgives those who are truly sorry in their hearts and for my divorce i am sorry but their was nothing i could do and ive made peace with GOD and JESUS.. I just hate reading that GOD hates...then fill in the blank bc i have a difficult time believeing GOD hates anything he creates...
Okay, I'm sorry. I got too focused on the temptation part and completely missed your point. My bad. And your right on that stand point. HOWEVER..... It's not that I'm not accepting Gods will, My belief is that the bible is inspired by Gods word. But to me, A lot of it seems more opinionated then what God would tell as truth. Woman submitting to their husbands, or homosexuality. God tells us to not judge, but homosexuality and shovinistic treatment to woman is okay ???
@Tom6093 It also says somewhere in the bible that one of the early bishops was a woman. And all throughout the bible we see examples of strong women such as Esther and Mary.
@vinnieboott What I meant in that last part is many feel it necessary to put down homosexuality because it is ridiculed in the bible. So are you actually confirming that homosexuality is wrong or are you claiming that it's okay ?
@Tom6093 Keep in mind that judgement spoken back then meant the real thing followed by condemnation, usually death or close. Now when we say do not judge, it has a passive soft meaning, more like, "Do not make people feel bad because of what they do". We judge every time we make a decision, good or bad. If the teaching from Jesus meant that, we iz all gonna burn just for thinking or judging for ourselves! ahahahahahaahahahahah
@G0dspelronin Heres my personal belief, Judging ourselfs is way better then judging others. Our own personal walk with God should take presidence over saying to someane , " If you don't accept Christ, your going to hell" What if they are protestant or presbyterian, Luthren ? All of these are Christian based religion.
@Tom6093 I agree with your angle completely. Course, I judge people like that pretty harshly myself. I love judging, just not condemning and executing people. My sins are way too many to be chasing down anyone anyway. I have a plankeye if you know what I mean!
@Tom6093 : it would make much more sense if you actually read the Bible in context, not just going by what you have heard or gleen from a few verses.
Women are called to submit to their husbands. But if you read further, you see why, and you see that the call on a Man is even more challenging - the Man is responsible as head of the family, modeling the way Jesus is head of the Church. He has to be Christ-like in that role, up to and including dying for his wife.
@Tom6093 When it comes to submission (a word that's been ruined) it gets forgotten that the next verse is husbands lay your life down for your wife. It's a mutual thing, not an excuse for men to dominate women. On that note, it's also worth pointing out that when Eve gets referred to as a helper, the original Hebrew word is ezer, which is the same term for the Holy Spirit, which is never suggested as a smaller part of the trinity than the Father or Son... (sorry just wrote an essay on this lol)
@Tom6093 oh you are too kind x) I wouldn't take them on a lot of them are smarter than me and all of them more aggressive lol. Jesus never chased down people, so that's my excuse. It looks like you got a lot of responses, did any of them help clarify your views? (just for the record, I don't think homosexuality is a sin, like you I reckon the Bible is very contextual and that we need to discern it rather than just listen to what people say)
@Tom6093 The Bible condemns homosexuality; it also says “Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave his life for it.” Christians are often accused of "judging" but that twists the Scripture verses saying "Do not judge." We are to use a righteous judgment. "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Jesus warns against hypocritically judging someone else for his sin when you are sinning even worse.
@ShadowPosie Why are you still here ??? Wasn't judgement day on the 22nd of May ? The bible was written by men...NOT GOD !!!!! The bible is a book of scribes put together on the accounts of religious stories and myth, mixed with actual happenings. There are scribes that are left out of the bible to conveniently tie these scribes together to believe half of this nonesense. In my opinion, Evangelism is one of the worst religions of them all because it ignores reason and logic.
@Tom6093 "Out of respect to the church be courteously reverant to one another. Wives, understand and support your husbands in ways that show your support for Christ. The husband provides leadership to his wife the way Christ does to his church, not by domeneering but by cherishing." There is NOTHING schovinistic about that bud. And as for homosexuality, the Bible doesn't mention LOVE between a man and a man or a woman and a woman being sinful, but sex. It only mentions SEX. God <3's Love.
@gotrib78:"A lot of it seems more opinionated then what God would tell as truth. Woman submitting to their husbands, or homosexuality. God tells us to not judge"Hi, I am not trying to correct or sound like I know more then anybody else,That said. God does not imply that we judge anyone, only that we Discern what is right or wrong and decide which side of that fence we should be on. As for submitting to their husbands, I take that to mean that the "Husband" should be the spiritual leader
This song is wonderful, but moreso because it lays bare the human heart. While the disciples are singing a song of comfort, one of them is getting ready to betray their Rabbi. Which of us can say his heart is pure? Who among us has not betrayed God, our friends, families, or ourselves? The human heart is both steadfast and capricious. Christians are no different than anyone else because we are human. The lack of acceptance of this basic concept speaks volumes about "anti-christians."
@hereverydayadventure A beautiful song that stirs the soul whether you are Christian or not - incredible anointed performance that cannot be done better
One of my fondest memories is singing this along with my priest and dear friend at a retreat. Just sitting in a corner as it played in the background, not on stage. Completely spontaneous, without even knowing the other knew the song.
@hereverydayadventure Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe they did it to emphasize the depth to which Judas had fallen. I don't like it though. John had been murdered prior to Jesus's death, and GODSPELL twists the issue.
We shouldn't reject the message because of flaws or contradictions shown by many if not most who call themselves christians. That's nothing new. Christ himself said; "not everyone who says to me Lord, lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven but he that does the will of my Father who is in heaven". So,it's up to each and evreyone one of us to follow Christ's example, thus being true Godspell Christians.
@cybervelvet Perfectly said a true Christian listens to GOD the Father the rest are denominations that make their own rules. The true love of the truth would be accepted by all,But because of inqiuisitions and holy wars the message is rejected .GOD never told them to go to war and just for doing so they no longer have a lampstand.People dont relize we are christians only if we do what the Father says.Just calling youreself Christian and being secular is a bad representation it's sad.
I played electric guitar in my arts high school production and i fucking love godspell. At the beginning I thought it was lame, but I ended up playing it so many times that I ended up loving it
The music is ok - but really the hippies and cutesy schmootsey expressions are a bit sickly aren't they, especially the one with the beaver hat - it all a bit pregnant innit.
@BPCpresents yea I suppose the woman are not naked enough for you. Your an IDIOT sir, and have no clue of the 70's or the wave of the Jesus movement. Your the same idiot that scratches his head and says "gee why is the world the way it is?' Blind and dumb is no way to walk around in life. Read more before you post.
@Gwenlj I beg to differ - based on your own ignorance and total unthinking - 1. you assume I'm straight - please don't judge me by your own retarded opinions of what you think 'straight' men are. 2. Don't assume anyone is anything before you've met and actually know them. 3. I would never say 'gee' - I'm not an American. 4. I don't need to scratch my head - my reality is as real as yours, I just dont profess a superiority complex. Its a shame really, I hope you realise how misinformed you are.
@BPCpresents What do you think in your mind a play is? It is a play. So comments on costumes about women for that era is ignorant pertaining to this era 70's love&flower power movement. I don't care if your NOT and American. I have no complex. Your gibberish you typed makes no sense thus read before you post. In the future don't post on American plays you don't understand! Blind&Dumb
@Gwenlj Er...the only thing I mentioned was a beaver hat, which the man wears! Do you know this play, I do I acted in it in a proffesional production as an actor. You obviously cannot read and are therefore as thick as pig shit! Your ill informed knowledge of the 70s only exposes your TOTAL ignorance - Godspell was written in the 60s and the hippy movement started around 1965/66 with the Summer of love. YOU are obviously an absolute ignoramous and should learn to read before you write.
@BPCpresents Godspell (an archaic spelling of the word "gospel") is a 1970 musical by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak. It opened off Broadway on May 17, 1971, and has played in various touring companies and revivals many times since. I am a writer and a Author so don't call me a pig. You are the pig making comments about women and the costumes. A man wearing a beaver hat? You said no such thing but , then your an Actor who probably needs his lines read back to him a hundred times. LOL
@Gwenlj The first thing that I wrote was this: The music is ok - but really the hippies and cutesy schmootsey expressions are a bit sickly aren't they, especially the one with the beaver hat - it all a bit pregnant innit. When have I mentioned women in a bad way and the costumes. You are obviously insane and confused beyond belief. YOU can't get your facts right and you. I don't think the first post I sent was at all offensive, but you are quite honestly a time wasting pest. LEARN TO READ!
@BPCpresents The male cast member you are referring to is wearing a black top hat with a raccoon tail hanging from the side of the hat. Time for a set of eye glass's old man apparently you can't see hear or think for yourself. I stand by what I said you are Blind&Dumb. Have a great life......
@Gwenlj YOU are a totally irrelevant piece of dog dirt! YOU may know your countryside animal crap like some kind of barefooted Bible belt redneck. But who really cares. Any post you send to me will be totally ignored and blocked. Goodbye and I hope you arre very happy living your vile pathetic life...
@tommerrigan1956 as i remember correctly, Jesus was shunned by most people in his time, and i believe that's why they have him dressed like a clown and acting silly all the time, to show what he would've been like in our time like he was back then
I wonder what happened to all this tallent VG was on a sinking ship then TV. We lost Lynne Thigpen as she was ont a TV program.Where is everyone else?
@koreateacher96 God just needs you to be you. Godspell shows the basic childlike innocence and happiness that starting new and clean can give us. If you strip away the years of time, our failures and the worry and stress of the world, we are left with that 9 year old kid deep down inside. The one we all really want to be again. Watch how Jesus comes up to John to "Get all Washed up!" after Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord. Like a child wanting to be included in the fun.
@koreateacher96 It's not about other people who call themselves Christians, it's about your love and relationship with the Father and that no one should be able to move you from.
@koreateacher96 - Christianity is not about what other people do. It's about what Jesus did for you. He did an unbelievable thing. Please don't let other people cause you to miss out on that.
@koreateacher96 some of us are i was brought up with this my mother is a choreographer.A true Christian does what GOD says all the rest make denominations and do what they wan't.
@koreateacher96: Don't think about what kind of Christians people make. Think about pleasing the Creator with what kind of Christian YOU make. Please God, not man. You are loved!
@koreateacher96 Yeah, you aren't alone. In response to all the people telling you that you shouldn't miss out on God because of others, it's easier said than done. I can't worship with someone I disagree with on the base interpretation of Christianity, and unfortunately there seem to be a lot of those in every congregation. But they are right in one way: Don't lose sight of God. Worship him, if only to yourself. That's better than nothing.
@koreateacher96 Ah, dear one, I feel and share the longing in your heart for such an expression of love in faith. Yet I have asked myself: why not be the one who starts living such a fearless example for others? He is still there to walk with you, and He is the only one you need.
@koreateacher96 If we see men, we leave Christ! We have to see Jesus! Become a christian again because of Him and His great love for you! He really loves you!
@koreateacher96 We are like that !!! You notice at the end of the GodSpell movie when they go around the corner of one of the buildings, Rush hour and all the people come back. That signifies living for todays world. When we live for Jesus, This world doesn't matter to us. Thats why they were always alone . Living for God , means you build your world to serve him. Churches are litterally comunittys .
@Tom6093 that's what Christians are SUPPOSED to do, but many Christians DON'T. That's what @koreateacher96 meant; that if Christians acted like Christians, he would be a Christian again. Personally, I've gone to a small Catholic school in a little Christian town all my life, and these Christians are hypocritical biggots that discriminate women, gays and people of different faiths, even different denominations. That is what caused me to consider and later adopt atheism; i support loving allpeople
@SailorCobaltStar Yeah, I know !!!! I have changed my church because the Pastor fired a woman friend of mine from her ministry because she got a divorce from her husband. Aparantly they would rather see her with a man that is obsessed with Porn then loving your spouse the way God loves his church. What happened to the whole forgiveness and grace part of being a Christian. I think there is a lot of superficial nonesense in Christianity, but what it's all about is your relationship with Christ
@Tom6093 -- Jesus tells us that God joins people in marriage for life -- that means until one of the two dies. God doesn't expect people to live with abusive or spiritually ill spouses, but he also doesn't condone divorcing them because of that. Marriages are "for better or for worse, in sickness and in health". When one of the spouses has "had enough", then he/she can move out and live separately from the other until the sick one is well.
@prodigaldaughter99 When you truly are in love with your spouse, you go through the sicknesses and the worst together. YOU DON'T SAY, I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE. Unless the marriage is abusive. Spiritually ill marriages ? Marriage is marriage, and if you married a person that doesn't believe in God the way you do, it's OK to just abandon it ? Gee, If your that superficial, then you were never truly in love to begin with and had no reason for marriage. My parents are athiests and are..con
@Tom6093 -- You misinterpret what I wrote. I wrote that Jesus tells us God has joined spouses for life and that he does not condone divorce. However, he also doesn't expect a spouse to live in an abusive environment (which can also include being spiritually ill by giving into tempation in any number of ways). In those cases, when a spouse can no longer tolerate the abuse or the situation is dangerous, then God allows him/her to live separately until the other spouse is no longer abusive
@prodigaldaughter99 " Which can also include being spiritually ill by giving into temptation in a # of way"
I have a Christian friend who is married to a non Christian. She doesn't drink, smoke, party and her husband respects her Christianity because.......HE LOVES AND RESPECTS HER. If you truly love your other half, race, religion ,or whatever is to be respected and loved also. Knowing that your wife or husband is Christian, you don't tempt them and ruin their relationship with Christ !!!!!
@Tom6093 -- Honestly, all I can say to your response is ????? It seems you're not reading what I wrote or are applying a spin to my words that is neither intended nor present. I did not write that temptations have to come from non-Christian spouses -- where on earth did you get that? As for the Bible being speculation or opinion, Jesus' views on divorce are clear, true and backed up by OT scripture. That you don't want to accept God's will in this is your choice, but it's the wrong one.
@prodigaldaughter99 My parents have been married for 51 years and are athiest. Being in love has everything to do with marriage. I'm a Christian though, but sometimes I think more problems happen in Christian Marriages then in non. 52% of Christian marriages fail and only 48 % of non religious fail. Two of my friends were in Christian marriages and they failed. Both said they lacked being in love and felt trapped in their marriages When a book gives u a set of rules to go by, it ruins it.
@Tom6093 --- The Bible is not just a book -- it's the word of God, meaning it's the truth. You can choose not to believe the truth (God gave you free will either to accept his way or reject it), but that doesn't make it any less true. The whole point of God not condoning divorce is that people give up too easily in marriages, and he didn't want to give them an easy out.
@prodigaldaughter99 I except that Jesus is my Lord and Savior and died on the cross for my sins, and nobody goes to heaven except through him. I am saved by the blood of Jesus.
But the bible is written by humans which are imperfact and of sin. Their are many questionable verses in the bible that are more speculation or opinionated then what I'd believe God would intend. I trust most of the bible. Iv'e prayed about these questions I have and don't feel convicted for my doubts.
@prodigaldaughter99 If you believe that life is a gift from God, it wasn't meant to be wasted in the marriage from hell. It is a matter between God and the person who must protect themself and should not be judged by anyone.
@pris613 -- Pointing out what God has told us in the Bible is not "judging" anyone. God alone is the judge, and he'll be doing that on Judgement Day. Jesus tells us that the only grounds for divorce is "fornication", which means one of the betrothed had sex with someone else before the marriage but it was only discovered after the marriage. Otherwise, you marry for life, and if you can't handle your spouse, you live separately from them AND CELIBATE until one of you dies. No need for divorce.
@prodigaldaughter99 Nonsense. God is more forgiving and loving than that. I refuse to take books that were written and rewritten years after Jesus as pure gospel. You have your beliefs but that doesn't you are totally correct and everyone else is wrong. Divorce is sometimes necessary and anyone who says otherwise has never been in that situation or been happy about their lives. Peace

McLeish not with Harvard Divinity school. sorry. I messed that one up.
atlatahuac 7 months ago
the back of the LP cover from the 1970's has text that describes the creative origins of Godspell. If you're at Half Price Books just look up the LP and read away.

emyblueish 8 months ago
@emyblueish This, to me , is about a lifetime friendship with (and commitment to) God. It's really all of the disciples telling Jesus they want to walk with Him, though they know it will be challenging. Yet, it's a celebration of that journey in His presence.
TheProactiveCreative 8 months ago
@TheProactiveCreative It's more. There are three Greek words to describe the presence and ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives. They are translated "on" (when special empowering is needed), "in" (the abiding, residing presence within a believer), and "along side" (when the Spirit comes along side us similar to the way Christ did for the disciples on the road to Emmaus). Jesus is Emmanuel -- God With Us, and the Holy Spirit is His abiding presence in every believer.

Tom6093 1 year ago
@Tom6093 All you have to do is believe. It's that simple. Jesus is the bridge between the Divine and humanity.
gotribe78 1 year ago 13
@Tom6093 It also says somewhere in the bible that one of the early bishops was a woman. And all throughout the bible we see examples of strong women such as Esther and Mary.
TheChristianFairy 11 months ago
@Tom6093 yep homosexuality is okay
vinnieboott 11 months ago
@vinnieboott What I meant in that last part is many feel it necessary to put down homosexuality because it is ridiculed in the bible. So are you actually confirming that homosexuality is wrong or are you claiming that it's okay ?
Tom6093 11 months ago
@Tom6093 I'm Claiming it's okay. I'm bisexual so I'm pretty much love who you love
vinnieboott 11 months ago
@Tom6093 Keep in mind that judgement spoken back then meant the real thing followed by condemnation, usually death or close. Now when we say do not judge, it has a passive soft meaning, more like, "Do not make people feel bad because of what they do". We judge every time we make a decision, good or bad. If the teaching from Jesus meant that, we iz all gonna burn just for thinking or judging for ourselves! ahahahahahaahahahahah
G0dspelronin 10 months ago
@G0dspelronin Heres my personal belief, Judging ourselfs is way better then judging others. Our own personal walk with God should take presidence over saying to someane , " If you don't accept Christ, your going to hell" What if they are protestant or presbyterian, Luthren ? All of these are Christian based religion.
Tom6093 10 months ago
@Tom6093 I agree with your angle completely. Course, I judge people like that pretty harshly myself. I love judging, just not condemning and executing people. My sins are way too many to be chasing down anyone anyway. I have a plankeye if you know what I mean!
G0dspelronin 10 months ago
@Tom6093 : it would make much more sense if you actually read the Bible in context, not just going by what you have heard or gleen from a few verses.
Women are called to submit to their husbands. But if you read further, you see why, and you see that the call on a Man is even more challenging - the Man is responsible as head of the family, modeling the way Jesus is head of the Church. He has to be Christ-like in that role, up to and including dying for his wife.
MommeeMadre1 10 months ago
@MommeeMadre1 So the woman has to play the poor ,little helpless woman and the husband plays take control and John Wayne Sunario. I don't buy it.
Tom6093 10 months ago
@Tom6093 what people seem to forget is thatthe bible was in the end written by humans in a very judgemental time.
fantasyrulestheworld 9 months ago
@Tom6093 When it comes to submission (a word that's been ruined) it gets forgotten that the next verse is husbands lay your life down for your wife. It's a mutual thing, not an excuse for men to dominate women. On that note, it's also worth pointing out that when Eve gets referred to as a helper, the original Hebrew word is ezer, which is the same term for the Holy Spirit, which is never suggested as a smaller part of the trinity than the Father or Son... (sorry just wrote an essay on this lol)

@omgshift111 Wow !!!! You ever consider arguing with these hateful Militent atheists ?
Tom6093 8 months ago
@Tom6093 oh you are too kind x) I wouldn't take them on a lot of them are smarter than me and all of them more aggressive lol. Jesus never chased down people, so that's my excuse. It looks like you got a lot of responses, did any of them help clarify your views? (just for the record, I don't think homosexuality is a sin, like you I reckon the Bible is very contextual and that we need to discern it rather than just listen to what people say)
omgshift111 8 months ago
@Tom6093 The Bible condemns homosexuality; it also says “Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave his life for it.” Christians are often accused of "judging" but that twists the Scripture verses saying "Do not judge." We are to use a righteous judgment. "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Jesus warns against hypocritically judging someone else for his sin when you are sinning even worse.
ShadowPosie 8 months ago
@ShadowPosie Why are you still here ??? Wasn't judgement day on the 22nd of May ? The bible was written by men...NOT GOD !!!!! The bible is a book of scribes put together on the accounts of religious stories and myth, mixed with actual happenings. There are scribes that are left out of the bible to conveniently tie these scribes together to believe half of this nonesense. In my opinion, Evangelism is one of the worst religions of them all because it ignores reason and logic.
Tom6093 8 months ago

@Tom6093 "Out of respect to the church be courteously reverant to one another. Wives, understand and support your husbands in ways that show your support for Christ. The husband provides leadership to his wife the way Christ does to his church, not by domeneering but by cherishing." There is NOTHING schovinistic about that bud. And as for homosexuality, the Bible doesn't mention LOVE between a man and a man or a woman and a woman being sinful, but sex. It only mentions SEX. God <3's Love.

We shouldn't reject the message because of flaws or contradictions shown by many if not most who call themselves christians. That's nothing new. Christ himself said; "not everyone who says to me Lord, lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven but he that does the will of my Father who is in heaven". So,it's up to each and evreyone one of us to follow Christ's example, thus being true Godspell Christians.
cybervelvet 1 year ago
@cybervelvet Perfectly said a true Christian listens to GOD the Father the rest are denominations that make their own rules. The true love of the truth would be accepted by all,But because of inqiuisitions and holy wars the message is rejected .GOD never told them to go to war and just for doing so they no longer have a lampstand.People dont relize we are christians only if we do what the Father says.Just calling youreself Christian and being secular is a bad representation it's sad.

Churches are litterally comunittys .
Tom6093 1 year ago
@Tom6093 that's what Christians are SUPPOSED to do, but many Christians DON'T. That's what @koreateacher96 meant; that if Christians acted like Christians, he would be a Christian again. Personally, I've gone to a small Catholic school in a little Christian town all my life, and these Christians are hypocritical biggots that discriminate women, gays and people of different faiths, even different denominations. That is what caused me to consider and later adopt atheism; i support loving allpeople
SailorCobaltStar 1 year ago
@SailorCobaltStar Yeah, I know !!!! I have changed my church because the Pastor fired a woman friend of mine from her ministry because she got a divorce from her husband. Aparantly they would rather see her with a man that is obsessed with Porn then loving your spouse the way God loves his church. What happened to the whole forgiveness and grace part of being a Christian. I think there is a lot of superficial nonesense in Christianity, but what it's all about is your relationship with Christ
Tom6093 1 year ago
@Tom6093 -- Jesus tells us that God joins people in marriage for life -- that means until one of the two dies. God doesn't expect people to live with abusive or spiritually ill spouses, but he also doesn't condone divorcing them because of that. Marriages are "for better or for worse, in sickness and in health". When one of the spouses has "had enough", then he/she can move out and live separately from the other until the sick one is well.
prodigaldaughter99 1 year ago
@prodigaldaughter99 When you truly are in love with your spouse, you go through the sicknesses and the worst together. YOU DON'T SAY, I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE. Unless the marriage is abusive. Spiritually ill marriages ? Marriage is marriage, and if you married a person that doesn't believe in God the way you do, it's OK to just abandon it ? Gee, If your that superficial, then you were never truly in love to begin with and had no reason for marriage. My parents are athiests and are..con
Tom6093 1 year ago
@Tom6093 -- You misinterpret what I wrote. I wrote that Jesus tells us God has joined spouses for life and that he does not condone divorce. However, he also doesn't expect a spouse to live in an abusive environment (which can also include being spiritually ill by giving into tempation in any number of ways). In those cases, when a spouse can no longer tolerate the abuse or the situation is dangerous, then God allows him/her to live separately until the other spouse is no longer abusive
prodigaldaughter99 1 year ago
@prodigaldaughter99 " Which can also include being spiritually ill by giving into temptation in a # of way"
I have a Christian friend who is married to a non Christian. She doesn't drink, smoke, party and her husband respects her Christianity because.......HE LOVES AND RESPECTS HER. If you truly love your other half, race, religion ,or whatever is to be respected and loved also. Knowing that your wife or husband is Christian, you don't tempt them and ruin their relationship with Christ !!!!!
Tom6093 1 year ago
@Tom6093 -- Honestly, all I can say to your response is ????? It seems you're not reading what I wrote or are applying a spin to my words that is neither intended nor present. I did not write that temptations have to come from non-Christian spouses -- where on earth did you get that? As for the Bible being speculation or opinion, Jesus' views on divorce are clear, true and backed up by OT scripture. That you don't want to accept God's will in this is your choice, but it's the wrong one.
prodigaldaughter99 1 year ago

Peace
