You stand next to it and reach as high as you can and move the bottom tabs away. You either jump from both feet or taking one step and you essentially slap the highest tab you can reach. The distance between the two is you vertical leap

FIrst off 55 inches is a overstatement, you should realize he would have to get 3/4 of his head above the rim to have a vertical of 55 inches. Second the shirt might have been at 12'8" (if that was true) but grabbing the shirt does not mean he got up there since the shirt was hanging off and by my measurement the most he got his head to was 12'3". But hey I might just be a hater....
