In years where there has been more snow, I've used a long iron chain to saw through under the snow and at some point all the snow comes down at once. Need 2 men for that one, on the rooftop and one down. Not sure if this roof has enough angle for that tho. But it's quite fun coming down from rooftop together with all the snow :P
Some background: In Seattle, each year it gets a little snowier. A December storm dropped a whopping 18" of snow on the roof but no rake. I used a long PVC pipe, and dug a path sideways across the roof, and then encouraged the lower 8' of snow to come down. No way to get a ladder out and go up there. Better than nothing. Most thought it was overkill until other houses in the neighborhood caved-in! Melted snow wrecked everything.
or just go up on the roof and jump a little bit

What an unpleasant chore. It's tiring, and it's cold.
I'll stay here in Honolulu.

why not just leave it there? let it melt?
LoveSUBING 1 year ago
@LoveSUBING
Because if it melted I guess it would leak through the roof.
I think that anyway, doubt it though unless the roof was poorly constructed.
Anyway, was expecting a fail like the snow falling off the roof and landing on the man.

Thanks for a great video!
A. What brand of rake are you using, and what is the length of the extender pole?
B. Generally, when does a roof need shoveling? i.e., how many inches on the roof are safe? I understand that pitch makes a big difference
C. Where do you get something like that? If you have a web link so we can look at a good (shovel and roof rake) that'd be great.
D. Do I do something special for the valleys by the flashing?
vrkelley 3 years ago
Phillips Snow Cutter
Whenever the roof is at risk for ice dams or the snow load is too heavy for the structure.
Apparently I cannot post links, please type snowcutter in Google.
No, nothing special is needed for flashing or valleys. It will work with complex roofs. Thank you.

why isnt the snow cutter recommended?
fjayrockst 3 years ago
Not sure I understand. It's just very tough snow! It's much easier if you don't wait months to get the snow off.
