i think that usually our favorite version is the version we heard first. i heard this version first, so it's my favorite. it's part of my growing up. i had no idea that "please mr. postman" was a remake when i heard it for the first time by the carpenters. the carpenters version remains my favorite, tho marvelettes fans will disagree.

I don't really care that Carlton's was the bigger hit. Knight's was better. In Carlton's version, he sounds like he's saying, "your love would be nice if you're willing to give it. If not, oh well." In Knight's, he sounds like he is absolutely prepared to give his lover tender loving care for a lifetime. Knight sounds much more sincere, and the instruments utilized in Knight's version have a prettier sound too. Carlton fans are free to disagree with me. This is just my opinion.

Although Carlton's version is okay, I think that Knight's is better. Knight sings the lines much more clearly, Knight's is more romantic and convincing, and the instruments used in Knight's version have a nicer sound than in Carlton's. But supposedly Carlton's was the bigger hit, so it is whichever you like. That's why radio stations play both versions.
