Dave us letting so much music go by, and he's not playing anything. Just being silly! These guys are playing their asses off for him so that he can riff, and he's letting it all go to waste. I think the OP, is right in saying that he was drunk here. Waste!!

I was there as well and it was a fantastic show, however Valentin was acting a total fool, sticking his flute into the face of Alfredo de la Fe who wanted to kick his ass. Dave was quite drunk and had missed the sound check earlier that day
