Anyone want to help me compile the 64 bit version? I tried the new stand alone Docky but it's pretty buggy still. The 32 bit version wasn't supposed to work on a 64 bit system but mine did. That is until I installed the standalone version. I'm on the n00b side of intermediate Linux user but U've never compiled an application from source.
The problem with docky for old hardware pcs is that is extremely cpu demanding, based on my own experience, however it is the only decent dock i've tried, and then i disabled it asap :D
hi! i just cannot install it.... from repo, it throws a lot of exceptions about dbus, and from source it cannot find itself, so wont configure the plugins. i've already played with path env variables, no result.
I think i've got all the dephencies, becouse gnome-do can be compiled.
there is a little problem too, with non-asci id's. i'm using hun language.
To alter your preferences, open up the gconf-editor, and go to /apps/gnome-do/preferences/Docky/Utilities/DockPreferences, and set Orientation to "Top" instead of Bottom. Or left/right if you fancy.
nice video. i'm a little confused. i'm using ubuntu 8.04.2 but i'm unable to get the docky. i've downloaded Gnome Do but that's about it and installed/updated all the software sources. do you know why this is happening?
I don't really use the functionality of GNOME Do a lot (mostly because I forgot I had it installed), but since I started using Docky I use it all the time.
Docky is not nearly as customizable as e.g. AWN but I like it 10 times better! Now if Docky will ever get more functionalities I will seriously start a religion out of it!
To developers: Please continue contributing your work to this project! You are gods!
i dropped awn for docky, despite lacking applets/widgets. but now im tickled to see some applety/widgety stuff in this preview! still, even more than that, i would love the ability to specify custom icons within docky. no rush, i can tell you're going in the right direction with this. kutgw!
I am the primary developer of Docky so what you are seeing here is the pre-release version of 0.8.1 GNOME Do which should be out somewhat soon. All the features you see here will be available, I hope.
You know i found a hidden option of Windows Overlap with the gconf-editor, i hope this option continues in the new version; it is very useful to me and i think other persons would like it too if there were a easiest mode to activate it.
Dude im so sorry. I've had my recycle bin leave me in windows :(

I love that someone has FINALLY come up with an efficient, intuitive and functional dock for Linux. Bravo!
Finally a dock to give OS X a run for its money (no doubt some of Docky's features will one day appear in OS X!)
What distro are you running in this video man?
DanthaFodder 2 years ago
how did you place the dock at the top of the screen, instead of the default setting to bottom?

Hi. Your video it is awesome. I love "gnome do" & "docky" theme are absolutely cool.
How you can change above the screen the position of the "gnome-do docky"?

I usually don't like Docks, but Docky is awesome.
