One day the Islamic world will get its act together. The issue, which is totally bypassed here, is Islamic Governance. ANY democratic fair election would see a landslide for the party that promises shariah in ANY arab country. TOTALLY WRONG! In the Greater Middle East we don't speak one language. We speak numerous unrecognized and usually unwritten languages. We all share one thing, which is we are all forced to use a classical language in writing, which is [literary] Arabic. Sometimes it's hard for who are labeled Arabs to understand people from other regions in the supposedly Arab world :)

that is not true. there is a difference between resisting occupation like Palestinians are resisting Israeli occupation and asking for separation, there was never a country or a self governing entity called Saharan land or Sahara occidental in that region of the world, the region was always part of Moroccan territory and when Spain invaded it, it was part of Morocco.

Mr Chomsky is basing his opinion on a book called Western Sahara, which is a very biased approach to the issue.

could be he is seeing parallels? tho he tends to be too well sourced to be biased in that sort of way. the research behind him has a more scientific, grounded way of working. and really they are brave enough to not have grown out of asking questions. h e does tend to come to an opinion after reading the all round viewpoints of the media on an issue, then see the patterns, and contradictions. he's good at it. but the odd slip is forgivable, as what he helps so much.
