For all you dedicated gamers... EVE Online is not controlled by who has the fastest twitch muscles in your joystick hand. Winning is not based upon who has the better ships, or highest skills either. Victory in EVE is based upon who has the better brains.

Knowing your ship's strengths, and weakness. Flying it right, and knowing your enemies abilities as well. Think of yourself in the position of a captain. You give orders while your crew do the steering and shooting.

Yeah, you're the commander of your ship .. even the smallest ship in the game is bigger than the tallest buildings in Earth! There are several scaling models of EVE ships here in youtube that you can search if you want to see for yourself. You'll realize then that having joystick control will never make sense in this game once you see them scaled in real-life.

The fighters, which you can get when you can command a Carrier capital ship, are actually AI controlled.

Unfortunately, you cant design your own ship. The only ships that can look different depending on the equipment you put on are the tech 3(?) ships that came from the "Apocraphya"(i think i spelled it right) expansion.

All I've seen about the fighting in this game is outside view, auto-aiming turrets, so it doesn't seem like real dogfighting. Unless this is just some camera trick and no one has released any REAL gameplay, I'm not really too interested. The dogfights in allegiance, skill requirement, not just better ships (as the case with most auto-aim games) is what I'm looking for in a space MMORPG. That's the one thing Jumpgate seems to have over EVE. Please explain to me the battle system.

Just to inform about the game...

There is an actual death penalty to this game. It is a direct correllation to the cost of the ship, the time to purchase + outfit a new ship, and the time it takes to recouperate from the amount you spend to replace it. (And sometimes the time to retrain a skill you lose in the death.)

Not some piddly crap like running back to your corpse and pressing "revive."

Apocrypha is the newest release, basically just some major updates, not a different game, Updates are always free even when its a huge expansion that changes the name, as long as you play the monthly fee to play. Its a great game, Im not playing currently because I dont have the 15 bucks a month, however I did play for about 6 months, and its a great game, i will come back in the future.

Theres a 14 day free trial that i suggest you play first then if you like you have to pay 15 quid a month, although eve online is like Marmite you love it or you hate it so if you don't like it don't go around telling everybody its shit cause it aint just certain people like it (oh and btw its rare on eve to find someone younger than 18 cause you have to be mature to be any good at this game) and the PVP is the best in any video game you cant get a better adrenaline rush in any other game

@DragonBice It's about beeing the best MMO around, basicaly ;) Difficult, but so much more rewarding (I played since wow release, up to naxxramas spider wing when we were 60, a bit less "hardcore afterward).

I didn't quit wow sooner cause of my friends, but I would have for sure played EVE two years ealier if it wasn't for them ;)

its more you fly ships you equip your ship with guns shield boosters ect then go kill stuff but the real amazing thing in this game is how other players affect other players 90% of the stuff you buy in this game is made by players that are sold on the market its very hard to explain all of it so just play the 14 day trial and you'll get the idea of it and that ship at 1:00 is a freighter so yes a transport ship

No actually, EVE doesn't use a traditional XP system like most mmorpgs. In the game you activily learn skills and how it takes to learn depends on the skill and skill level, some may be a few hours to learn or a few days. Since this system is active when you arn't it alows you learn skills when no playing. This puts everyone on EVE on a level field, just because some guys has 3 years of training means nothing if you know what you're doing, he can just do more things than a newbie can.

EVE is about many things, but is primarily it is about the players. They drive the game, story, content, etc. Players can be anything in this game: pirate, miner, bounty hunter, freelance mercenary, and so much more. This game isn't for everyone and will requiere time and patience. But those who commit are rewarded. Large scale fllet engagement, toppling entire alliances and empires, fighting for your groups turf or your own, the chose is truely with the players.

I don't know I've only recently heard about this game, but I doubt you start off with a MAC cannon. You probably have to level up just like in any other RPG, except it's cooler because it's giant space battles instead of little dwarves. WOW can suck it, no mage can stand up to the might of a plasma cannon.

Yeah, I had vista for forever, its allright, but I made the move to windows 7 beta, and its great as far as a beta goes.

About your problem, I think I remember vista not liking eve, Try looking in the games explorer (Start menu > Games), it should show up there. You could also try searching in the quick search in the start menu. If all else fails look for the install directory, C:/Program Files/CCP/something and find the exe to launch from, and create a shortcut to that.

You have to purchase a clone, theres different types, that preserve different levels of skill points, so if you have alot of points, you have to buy an expensive clone, and when you die, you respawn in the station you purchased your clone in, and you must buy another, or you will loose all your skill points opon your death, and thats a bad day.....
