  • never even noticed the mello holding out that note turns around...

  • I still say it sounds better on G Bugles...

  • The Finish Show 2011 of Católica Drum Corps from Brazil - "PHANTOM"

    ...youtube.com/watch?v=A2UyAJiYp3s

  • The seventh that dominates the fifth for an accidental period of time, is probably what makes this arrangement, in my opinion, better than the original. Frankly I love it when that becomes part of the melody. Nothing more charming.

  • I'm Sarah. It's from the final lair part of Phantom where it's all I ask of you as the Phantom sings you alone can make my song take flight it's over now that music of the night.

  • I think everyone knows that Vanguard is their favorite corps at heart.

  • This hit is one of, if not the, best hit in DCI history. I cant get enough of watching 89 Vanguard...

  • @shcusmc I was in the stands when SCV played this at the '89 DCI Finals....AMAZING...only thing close is the '88 performance of Madison Scouts Malagenea...electric...

  • This hit is on of, if not the, best hit in DCI history. I cant get enough of watching 89 Vanguard...

  • This is EPIC!!!

  • how canu not be amazed

  • I was standing on the bridge when this was recorded, and it still gives me chills. =)

  • 1:22 somebody yells and I at first mistook it for a trumpet trying to take it up and playing super flat. Then I was like... wait, its a drum corp, they don't mess up like that.

  • the drum major in this is just so clean and so perfect, perfect tempos and i love when he looks like hes flying at the big hits. its amazing :)

  • I love the drum major in here sped them up and slowed them down at exactly the right times...and at exactly the right tempos...

  • @HachiHaruChika101 agreed! Now If we could get these guys on G Bugles it would be perfect (imo)

  • good luck SCV ;) im a Devs fan but love this piece :D

  • @MrLittledan92 go kill yourself buddy

  • @71196jmg Telling someone to kill themselves just because they like this piece? Just because he's a BD fan doesn't mean you should say that.

  • @smartbluma this peice is amazing. i hate the BD but its kind of a joke

  • @LordoftheHobbits Hey I'm marching with SCV this year. No need to say that

  • eargasm!!!!!!

SCV is my favorite corps, phantom of the opera is my favorite musical so....thats just oh my freakin goodness!! amazing! :D scv has chosen me and im goin for them in a few years when i have the money and the time, every time i watch the 89 show, the company front always gives me the chills, its like God just threw down an amazing sound from heaven and splatted it in our face, i think if God had to pick a drum corps to be "heavens drum corps" it would be scv :)

  • So gorgeous

  • 1:22 power moment!

  • The Drum Major is trying to fly at 1:05

  • dude they sound almost exactly like their 1989 championship group

  • 03 people are BD fans...

  • 197 people like this, George Hopkins watched this and 2 others died from a Corpsgasm and their face accidentally fell on the dislike key.

  • @Clateon Corpsgasm? that's awesome

  • This is amazing...

  • Anyone going to finals this year? I'm going just for SCV.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!

  • I get chill bumps listening to this!!!!!

  • anyone know where i can get the score for this or maybe even a somewhat-close-to studio quality recording of this so i can transcribe it myself? lemme know asap please!! love this corps!

  • this makes me want to cawl into a hole and die, for i know i can never make this sound anyware close to this good... and who is the idiot who let the drumline in :-)

  • 1:12 baritones/euphoniums!!!

  • Man I remember standing on the bridge watching this, it was purely amazing.

  • god

what do so many of you people have against a decent hornline?

    these people are beautiful

i wanna see a drum corps play something that beautiful...

  • I remember that night. A moment I won't forget.

  • Woodwinds belong in jazz bands and concert halls, no reason for wasted marching space when you can hear the instruments up top without some amplification. When you can hear clarinets and flutes, not so good either. If the "lusciousness" you hear is an awful reedy sound, then I guess you just like that sort of thing. Inside they sound great, outside...not so much. I'm pretty sure the reason there aren't high school drum corps yet are purely educational and the pursuit of 'fairness' and all.

  • @chrisl83 its also a woman you're talking to here...

  • drum corps is awesome, but i do like the luscious sound that the woodwind family adds to the marching band. a superior marching band gets the edge over drum corps to me and i'm a major phantom regiment fan and brass player, but hey you just miss the woodwind sound.

  • And to think I could've been in SCV this year and I turned it down :(

  • Comment removed

  • what an absolutely beautiful sound. SCV has always been my favorite corps and this just solidifies that feeling.

  • ahh...the sweet sound of dynamics

  • watched this from the walkway above the corps. chills all around.

  • Class

  • the horns and percussion should either practice in different areas or different times...i know this is a re-warm up and the circumstances were altered, but almost every other warm-up video has the same problem.

  • @jck1794 They don't warm up for the benefit of youtube videos ;-)

  • @mike71085 i was just saying they could mess each other up.....different beats....but i guess they're too good to mess up....:)

  • i get chills every time i hear that. I can only imagine what it must have been like to actually get to march that song. WOW!!!

  • freakin awesome!!!

  • lol that drumline in the background just got raped

  • marching band!? dude, are you serious!? Marching bands arent even close to the same level as drum corps let alone this one.

  • Amen!!!

  • @tydydpony93

Marching bands ,even nationaly ranked ones, are nowhere neer Drum Corps

  • @tydydpony93 lol the only one i could see being close is avon highschool in indiana they score 90s

  • @tydydpony93 and others

  • @THEGABALESeduardo lol the sta clara marching band lol u need to study up on DRUM CORPS lol you just embarassed your self

  • QUIT BEING MEAN ASSHOLE!

  • Shut up Drumline.

  • I AGREE SHUT UP DRUMLINE!

  • I love how this video captures the aura of the song. The grand arch in the background leading to the field, and the fact it was a re-warm up right before performing make the it feel so mysteriously powerful.

  • Epic medley!

  • wish i could have been there!:(

  • Always gets me

  • his conducting style is so unique... yet it flows so naturally and fits perfectly with the piece and ensemble.

  • incredible video...

  • it almost brings a tear to your eye

  • this song is amazing. its amazing here, and it was even more incredible in 1989. go vanguard!

  • Loved how All I Ask of You went into Music of the Night

  • if he isnt the proudest drum major ever idk who is....

  • 1:12 is just the best when you hear the baritones come in, even just for that brief moment it is one of the best parts of the music.

  • thats cause euphoniums/baritones kick ass

  • yes!

  • awesome! i love this song

    SCV the best DCI

    greetings from Aguiluchos Marching Band

    Puebla Mexico

  • gorgeous! as was the show wayyy back!!!!!!

    [love, a phantom phan]

  • There for a second at 0:49 the drumline starts to groove with the hornline accidentally. I smell a sweet arrangement!

  • lol win^

  • Comment removed

  • Corps...not band.

  • @crownbrass07

it is very similar to the percussion parts from SCV's 1989 show when they actually did music of the night. check it out

  • @crownbrass07 Agreed!

  • @crownbrass07 And exactly how do you know that was and accident? what if it was planned? :O

  • Any way I can get the music? thats an awesome warm up and would like to try it.

  • UIFHG*D(JAODJI THAT STUPID WOMAN AT 1:22!!!

she made it sound like a sour note....

  • i notice that everytime i see this video.

  • now.

if it were the REAL show... cheering would most DEFINITELY be appropriate :P

i wish i was there for the real thing..

  • wow that pisses me off.

  • That was in reply to billpisley, if I was unclear

  • I remember this night! I was in a Div 2 corps waiting for the weather to get better and right as I got some McDonalds, my mom and I walked over that bridge to hear THIS, and be absolutely floored! Great work SCV!

  • haha... typical drumline pounding out in the background at 1:30

  • its such a shame that SCV never gets the credit they deserve. They are in my top 3 almost ever year. None of this Booo Debils stuff. Cavies, Phantom and these guys are legit. no questions.

  • hey hey hey !!! LOL i kinda agree with you exept phantom regiment falls in my number 1 !!!! LOL they may not have the best marchers or anything like that but they shure do have a fucking beautiful sound !!! but yeah SCV falls in 3rd place as well !!! 2nd being cavaliers LOL !!!

  • omg i still remember the feeling that night! right at the first impact point i was trying to sustain the notes but i was getting all choked up inside. the music was inside of me and even when i see this today, 4 years later it still brings a tear to my eye! i miss those amazing days but with videos like this, i can always remeber a great seoson. thanks for all your support!

  • Super epic, but this is All I Ask of You & Music of the Night

  • who is this?

  • Wow you're a genius

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLO!!!!! Reagan, I love you, because of that comment. LMFAO.

  • i love these horns.. i got chicken skin...SEXY HORN. SCV ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

  • The sound of the drumline in the background just gives me the chills :) Always has.

  • Truly epic. SCV is arguably one of the best corps on the face of the planet. Ever.

  • i think i remember the rain delay. where was this?

  • foxboro '05

  • amazing!!

  • I can haz epic warmup? Kthx SCV.

  • After I heared this . . its absolutely GREAT!!

Lord, you can take me now!!!

  • i love phantom of the opera and scv.this was absolutley amazing. i wish i couldve been there!!!!!! FANTASTIC

  • I wish to God I could've been there that night. Unfortunately, I aged out many years before, and have become too burdened with life,. However, this clip, time and again, reminds me of what it felt like to be "in the tunnel," and feel the eyes of people watching you in those precious few minutes before you "enter the field in competition." Wow. SCV, even though they were our closest rivals, have proven again that they are, as Don Angelica once said, the "Rolls Royce of drum corps."

  • wow, the backround.. the stadium looks awesome with all the lighting.. and the design in awesome

  • Wow. Awesome. VANGUARD!

  • Dear vanguard, I want to be your drum major, please. :)

    Lol I can only dream.

  • lol doesnt everyone?

  • not really.

Crown is much closer and i wouldn't want to go all the way to california to be a drum major.

  • OMG my butt-hole just quivered!!!

  • This really gives me musical orgasm...SCV kicks ass. Love Music of the Night

  • this really makes me want to do SCV instead of Glassmen, but i'm in Ohio...

  • that was so nice

    ... i think i got a boner

    haha

  • Vanguard is such an amazing corps

but why is one of the mellos facing backwards?

  • I may be wrong...but as I remember when they won finals with the FOTO show the end was a single mellophone playing to the crowd and the rest of the corp facing backwards. Guess it was just easier to face one person opposite direction. One thing I know for sure the repeat preformance the next year with the whole corp dissapearing was epic.

  • The mello facing backwards is the soloist holding the last note.

  • You're the dumbass who can't spell dumbass, you dumbass.

  • lol

  • this is amazing but it would be that much more amazing if you could hear the screaming trumpets. the drumline drowns out their sound. It would be a thousand times better if the drumline wasnt doing a completely different warm up.

  • Are you kidding me?

    It's ALL about the drumline...

  • drumlines are no doubt badass. But there comes a time for beauty which only a hornline can deliver

  • haha n00b, it's most certainly not all about the drumline. It's the brass that matters, drumlines are for background effects and drum breaks add a whoa factor and excitement to the show.

  • How about it's called drum and bugle corps? It's not just about the brass, or just about the drumline. It's about both of them working together. That's what makes a great show. It's you, I'm afraid, who is the noob

  • that's why there's the front ensemble.

    lol

  • this is amazing, but you the beginning of this video just doesnt sound right without someone yelling "TAKE IT HOME SANTA CLARA!!"

  • Agreed.

  • I know they're saying Take it home, but it really sounds like they're yelling "take it off" when the attractive color guard girl is doing her solo lol

  • I get to every year i march a World Class Drum Corp.

  • Tear-jerker.

  • really cool

but it will never beat vangaurd '89

  • amazing... i like how drumline's practicing something entirely contrasting off to the side though

  • Goosebumps goosebumps goosebumps !!

  • aaaaaahahha lord webber. yes he has seen this corps.

  • Brilliant! I was watching from the bridge in the back.

  • Hey! Me too. Great Show, but I think Phantom shoulda won..... Oh well. Still a great show, and I love it all.

Damn was it hot that day. I remember walking up the concourse and seeing colourguard doing stretches on the hot pavement. The pavement had to be 110 or more.

The finale with all the corps out on the field was a sight and sound to behold.

  • and the drumline rams notes in the background...classic :-)

  • I think Lord Webber would love it! Can't beat a good tune on a good brass instrument!

  • Lord Webber? Is he from england?

  • He's the guy who produced the show 'Phantom of the Opera' that is still showing in theatres in England years after it first began. He produced/directed a lot of good musicals in English (West End) theatres.

  • I know who he is! I just didn't know he was a "Lord"

What does a Lord distinguish exactly? Is it just like saying "Mr" in america?

  • I think its actually Lloyd Webber. Short for Andrew Lloyd Webber.

  • It's "Lord" because he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth

  • WRONG. Someone who is Knighted is referred to as "Sir". The female equivalent is "Dame".

Lord is a title with various meanings. It can denote a prince or a feudal superior (especially a feudal tenant who holds directly from the king, i.e., a baron). The title today is mostly used in connection with the peerage of the United Kingdom or its constituent countries, although some users of the title do not themselves hold peerages, and use it 'by courtesy'.

  • does anybody know if Lord Webber has ever seen SCV perform this?

I can imagine him fully endorsing this beautiful performance.

  • My rookie year I was innocently looking for food during the rain delay and was on the bridge right when they played this... I had no idea that it was a big deal for Vanguard... But I couldn't stop telling other people about it..

  • Anyone else notice that the scream at 1:23 is in tune with the piece?

  • haha lol thats funny

  • lol Yup!

  • Wow !!! Thats all i can say... WOW !!! Chills!

  • wonderful piece of music played by an absolutely tremendous corp.... DM is so musical with his conducting... wonderful....

percussion in the background?? lol..... they sound clean!

  • Oh my gosh...

  • i absolutely love when scv does this song... ah, goosebums!

  • Anyone know where I can find an arrangement of this, or the chord progressions. I'm trying to arrange this piece for my marching band.

This music gives me the chills each time I hear it. Amazing.

  • the 89 show was unbelievable. It is what inspired me to pursue DCI. Sounds beautiful. masterful.... Even though I marched PR in 93, I love SCV.... awesome corps!!

  • SCV's '89 Music of the Night ftw

  • This video does NOT do this corps justice. If you have never seen a drum corps show before, do yourself a favor and go to one where the Vanguard are playing. Their music is so much more than a performance, it is an emotional experience. The Vanguard have always been (and always will be) my favorite corps although I marched with another corps back in the day.

  • That would be amazing if they brought phantom of the opera back in '09. Thats when im hoping to march with them

  • That would be cool if SCV could one day bring back Phantom of the Opera, just like Phantom Regiment brought back Spartacus and Holy Name Cadets are bringing back Bernstein and West Side Story in 2009.

Since SCV's show next year is "Clue," maybe they'll save Phantom of the Opera in....maybe 2014? That will be 25 years since they've performed the show....
