The auto focus speed is acceptable but could be better. It faces stiff competition from Leica's partner, Panasonic. The Panny G2, GF1, & GH1 cost less than half what the Leica X1 does & their auto focus is faster, they have interchangeable lenses, & the G2 and GH1 have a built-in EVF. But Leica wins with a bigger sensor & superior construction. Leica should bring out an MILC M mount lens version of the X1.

Great Job Steve! Although I didnt intent to get X1. But from your video, u did a really nice test by providing detailed testing in real-world. Wish to see more camera test video from u =)
@roger767 Leica is Leica, from history, optics, quality, QC... it's photographer dream camera. Especially the top of the line M9. X1 is more budget type and fixed lens (still expensive for me ==)

When you test AF on the Doors album, the objective is already focused, then it is normal that it is quick
