i heard marcia play in annapolis maryland in the late 70 or early 80 at a cajun festival however i cant remenber the name ot the band she played for. i had their cd and would like to hear all of them again. thaks for any help
I don't know of any family from AK. Neither do recall knowing any Farley's. Ben-the name of the song IS "This Used to Be Paradise" it is on my channel. Hope you enjoy it. I have thought about taking this early version of Poodle down, but I like to see the 71,000 views number.
@brianthelion79 It's really not a problem, but thank you just the same. My remarks toward you were not every kind either. Everyone has a bad day now and then. Take care and stick up for what you enjoy, no one else will ever do that for you. Peace brother.
@oldmtnfart: Peace. I’m not doing anything to cure cancer or stop hunger, so the least I can do is refrain from putting negative energy out there. Thanks for accepting my apology.
@oldmtnfart: I agree! To write off an entire genre of music is foolish. Rock and roll has influenced everything that I’ve ever liked or created. I just happen to like the stuff that deviates from the mold a bit. I write music for documentaries/films, but I’ve written several albums worth of ROCK/POP music haha. I’m a hypocrite. Again, just defending my buddy, I suppose, and maybe one too many beers.
@oldmtnfart: Yeah, I live in Austin, but don’t really care for live music anymore haha. Tragic. I usually don’t drink nowadays either, so even less fun. Guess that’s just life. Can’t force yourself to like something.
@brianthelion79 - 32? cutting edge? Sounds like you're a thirty-whatever punk trying his ass off to still sound cool to teen-agers and failing miserably at it. Just STFU,you old fart,no one's impressed with your bullshit!
@obtuse100: Wrong. It’s just that music is my life, and “artsy” music, in particular. I actually hate teenagers. I work construction and don’t go to many concerts = I hardly ever see teenagers to feel the need to impress them. Regardless, sorry that I ruined some people’s day with my dick comments. Again, my friend’s demo got some nasty comments from Marcia, and when I came here to listen to her, it pissed me off. From now on, I’m holding myself to a “no nasty comments” policy.
Marcia wrote this song about her dog always desperately wanting to play with my dog when I was her neighbor in Austin. My dog is a Portuguese Water Dog, but in Texas, he was just "a brown poodle" and I didn't dispute that when Marcia wrote the song. :-)
@flubuk Well, the entire conversation was "Is that poodle song about my dog (holding my dog on a leash after seeing her perform it at the local elementary school)? Marcia: "Sure is, cutie-pie (to my dog)!" Guess I read too much into that.
@dandamagetoo Sorry but i have to agree with Phally. This guitarist IS mechanical, IS soulless and IS merely functional. It doesn't take away from the performance but it doesn't add either. All the soul and passion in this performance belongs to Marcia. She outshines her band like a supernova.
Marcia...YOU RAWK!!! oh and uh phally..go to hell you underfed over educated mechanical souless guitar functionary. now run along run your scales over and over
I don;t understand why overweight Guitarists make those sour faces like it is so hard to play an A minor pentatonic ridiculously easy Blues lick, Can't figure it out>>>
I didn't know he wore that lid and i have never seen him that size maby a camera deal ,he is a big guy but a hell of a nice one and he can play that getttttttar.you havent seen any thing he is really good 'has to be he's from Texas ,its a blues factory so to speak, and one amung many .
Damn that big boy can play the guitar. I sure miss his in Marcia's band! I beejn going to her concerts for about 12 years now and Marcia never, never fails to please her auidience. And, she is hands down the best boogie woogie piano player working today.
Well saw her this weekend at the Rhythm & Roots festival...as usual she puts on a helluva show. Sure you can whine "nothing unique" but what she does she does with charisma, energy and very contagious soul.
I honestly don't mean to be a jerk. Someone sent me this link. I love ALL kinds of music and I'm a musician myself. I don't hear what all the fuss is about. There are dozens of bands that do or have done this "Little Feat" sort of thing. I hear nothing new here at all. What am I missing?
Someone in a jazz forum mentioned Marcia Ball so I checked it out. I'm sure there's stuff I love that you would not respond to; that's cool and again, I remain polite and civil in my commentary.
She's a good performer/entertainer. I get excited when a musician hits on something that's different or challenging. An artist has to stretch creatively to get there. There's no stretch in what's being played here. It's just Stratocasters slung over beer bellies (to quote Tom Waites).
ah. That explains the "poodle" reference. Zappa uses that reference too. I guess in this day and age there is nothing surprising about a woman singing about playing with someone's poodle. "The Poodle bits, the poodle chews it."
The best band and great writing! You won't regret seeing her band in person! A three hour set of flawless music and musicians. As far as I am concerned, the best music and entertainment anywhere!
Jeez that woman can swing.
