Devil's got nothin' to do with it , son. you get this good by having the talent, perseverance, and courage to pursue something few people can do well. you gotta have alot of good in ya... not to mention the countless hours of practice put in doing something you love.
i think the only thing i like about this video is 3 44 - 3 50, if you want to see an amazing solo of crossroads type in Guthrie Govan Andy TImmons Crossroads, and you will see how its done!
"Trey has it...all of it. He lacks nothing in music. You know, he jokes about having a pact with the Devil...I can't help but believe it. He's the best."
trey somtimes falls back on a crutch riff or tries to play more notes than possable but he has got so much versatility and an enormous bag of tricks. u dont ever hear clapton playin that funky outer space sh--. his hands are too slow :P
Please listen to the live Cream version on the Wheels of Fire album. I love the boys job here but it can't compare to that version. It gets staight up nasty.
personally id rather listen to trey or jerry. or gilmour.
they all excelent musicians each their own style and instantly recidnisable sound. gilmour has got SO much emotion. santana IS the A minor scale. jerry WAS the major scale, i mean u never even hear him play a note out of tune or out of place. i think jerry was better and he could sing really good too, but as a band, these guys are just rediculous. t
Trey can definitely bring the heat and blow a jam through the roof better than Garcia though. Jerry was more graceful and elegant sounding. Trey just straight up shreds.
being a good guitarist is different from being a technical guitarist. I don't know what your idea of a good guitarist is, but he actually plays notes that have soul and passion rather than shredding your face off with technicality nor is he playing only 3 power chords. He's not the best but he understands the balance thats needed for a good band and to produce good music without all the frills and attitude that many bands today rely on.
I agree, k1mmin9. Phish, in my opinion, has always been able to skate the line of rock/prog rock. Too much prog turns me off because the musicians seem determined to cram as many notes possible into each measure of music -- the musicality gets lost in those ridiculous displays of talent. Trey and Co. display terrific musicianship -- and extraordinary talent.
I agree. God Bless Jerry, but this is something that he was never capable of. For that matter, I think this is better than anything that Clapton ever did with the song...
(which, let's face it is not the most imaginative of songs), then plays around with it, and still isn't in the slightest bit boring - even though one suspects it could be. In fact it is sensational. Maybe Ronnie van Zant's commitment would add something. I am going to have to ask my other half - she is the expert on this song. Not a rocker, but for some reason she just adores this song. Will let you know her verdict.
Cor. I can see why you posted this. I thought Skynyrd had done the ideal version of Clapton's version of Crossroads. Of course Clapton did all the hard work, but they just sharpened it up, added their power and made it a little less lazy. And for years I thought the job was done - though I did think about doing a version myself for a little bit. But what is brilliant about this is that it has all the run of crossroads
Sure RJ wrote it but Clapton was the one who modernized it and popularized it for that matter. Almost every cover of the song is of his version, sorta like how SRV is eternally linked to Texas Flood even though it was a Larry Davis tune
well i wouldnt call it hard work, but he sped up the song from johnson's original and modernized it with out clapton this song wouldnt be remembered now
the fact that you think that i think trey wrote this makes you even more gullible then i thought. i mean really, tom marshall is a great writer but could never do something like this. you probably think clapton wrote cocaine too right?
sarcasm is damn hard to pick up on the internet phan. at least jam4jezus picked it up right away....
wow, what jam4jezus meant was that if you know speck about rock and roll then you should know the origin of this song. if you think it's phish then you're about 50+ years off
Keep telling yourself you know what you're talking about "soam." Seems your name stands for "split open and melt" and thus conveying that you a self-described "phish-head." Well the fact you think Trey wrote this nullifies this. Crossroads, which was made famous by Eric Clapton and his band Cream in the late 60s, was originally written by Robert Johnson in 1936. Sorry bud, you're retarded.
soam, dude how fucking stupid can you possibly be. do your goddamn homework on rock. this is fucking 1st grade man everyone knows robert johnson made this ya dumb cunt
true story...the difference between phish and the dead is....you will always respect phish as instrumentalists...but the dead you can listen to, well until your "dead"...and never get sick of them.
not for me, i keep listenin to phish more than dead..phish is a seperate entity and u cant compare the two, but i prefer phish. so many great tunes. the dead were musical geniuses but phish has a different style i like better. granted listening to the dead makes phish even better for the change in pace..because the dead was one of a kind

What hard work did Clapton do? If you are referring to Clapton as the original artist you are sadly mistaken. Robert Johnson was the first my friend.
