This song was on season 3 of Robin of Sherwood. It was meant to be released on legend 2 a second soundtrack to the show Robin of Sherwood but the album was never released. It is a haunting melody and one of Clannad's best.
They ended up using a lot of male voices with Moire, giving it that majestic sound as if you're seeing a golden castle or inside of it. Really amazing.
Misty ancient English broad leaf forest in a moonlit glade, 2 thousand years ago, at peace, no noise of this modern age.......... just the quietness and peaceful dark??? this is what this song could invoke in my heart, an echo from a forgotten past eh?? hee hee just love their music
Now in my retirement years, I wish to visit these lands of such beautiful music. I will bring an umbrella and a raincoat, and though I can't drink, I will visit the pubs to chat and listen to the music I love. Fred Jack Ghost of a Wolf, Chippewa Elder
I lived 6 years in Dublin, I love an Irish man, and I had to leave cos I lost my job and couldn't find another one. Maybe one day I'll come back...When I speak English I sound totally Dub...and my heart's ripped apart. I love you, Eireann, despite everything.
@Prizak1 I've never been out of my country, but this songs, almost any irish song, make my eyes full of tears. When I see pictures of the stone houses, the green, that endless green fields, I feel I miss something, yet I still don't know what is that. It's strange to feel such love for a country I've never visited.
Scottish and Irish Gaelic aren't identical, but are related, probably about as much as Spanish and Portuguese are. Like those two languages, they shade into each other, so someone from South Argyll and someone from Donegal can understand each other, but you get someone from Kerry and someone from Lewis and they can't understand a word-maybe pick out the odd word but no more.
I love how some parts will get more louder, and defined while the others quiet it down and it adds lots more effect to hte 'suaimhneas an gaoth' and the 'ina codladh sa gaoth"
The water imagery was great because it fits nicely with 'An farraige chiuin, agus suamhneas an oiche, an farraige chiuin ina codladh an oiche' meaning 'the sea is quiet, and the wind is peaceful, the quiet sea asleep in te wind' briefly.
@shayloverly@Biervampy Actually, they’re singing "Tá 'n fharraige ciúin agus suaimhneach sa ghaoth; an fharraige chiúin ina codladh sa ghaoth", or "The ocean lies quiet and peaceful in the wind; the quiet ocean asleep in the wind". :-)
galic love this song have done for 3 years now seence i first heard it can any one tell me what they are talkin about in english plz would like to understand
this great song is on the Celtic Circle CD. Does anyone have a playlist of the Celtic Circle? Or any of the other songs off of them? I am not sure if it's off of the 1st or 2nd CD compilation......
@tadge72 I did Irish in school, the main difference is the Scots tend to use the English alphbet rather than the Irish Like Eoin = Owen in Irish but the Scots would say Ian
She did a few album`s with them she was by far the most talented and deserves her career but She did attempt pop if you can find it, It is really funny.
Thanks for this video-beautiful!!i am from bavaria germany- i used to work in scotland for 3 years long...this video reminds me to the highlands...love the highlands and scotland more than germany
Yes i know that clannad is an irish band-but the landscape in the video looks like the highlands(which are similar to the irish mountains i think) and i have got a lots of nice memories,we have done a few highland trips.Anyway-the music is fantastic as well and maybe i will take a visit in ireland someday too... wherever is a pub with nice people and good beer a bavarian feels good...
I want to live in the time this song invokes! a time not exclusive to the Celts but to us Anglo Saxons too!" This is deep, but it inspires this longing of ancient times and values./ Please, is this just me? I sincerely ask this because I think it maybe. and if it is, well HELP MEEEEEE!
No. But to be honest it is kind of escapist. I mean, people living in those times didn't appreciate them. Few of us understand or appreciate what we have now. You have the luxury of choosing.
In most cases you have to find the beauty and be willing to conserve it, the vast majority of people just don't seek it out or view it! Everyone has to start a fresh or keep searching for more!!!
ninanightnurse....Ireland or 'Hibernia' as the Romans called it has always been a haunting land and still is to this day. Irish mythology is the stuff of legends as well and the fairies and the pixies make children worldwide smile!
The Romans never invaded Ireland because their reconnaisance trips described it as 'A land of mists and great giants'
Wow the music just wrapped its self around me and my soul with the words speaking softly to my heart whispering brushing its self gently against my face and entire being. With the pictures just magic. That is how this made me feel :)..Thank you for sharing .I love Clannad.
