  • Technically, though it sounds perfectly reasonable, I wouldn't completely trust prison stats in this particular case. In prison, most would tend to join up with groups for protection. I'm sure there are a number of Christian and Muslim groups, but I doubt very seriously that there are that many Atheist groups. For the most part, we are not talking about the cream of the crop intellectually, and no one wants to show a view that differs from a large part of a population, as violent as they can be.

  • Japan, one of the most secular countries in the world, also has one of the lowest crime rates & overall lowest rape rate. Matt mentioned it one episode.

  • @Xanatos712 I'm not certain about that rape rate, considering the slew of rather horrific porn coming from Japan as of late. Also, to my, all be it, flawed recollection, the orient isn't known for dealing with things out in the open, or involving the cops. On a side note... I love the name, David.

  • @skywize You're not certain about the rate of rape in Japan due to the slew of rather horrific porn coming out of Japan ? Are You suggesting the majority of Porn produced in Japan forces Rape on People appearing in these movies ?

  • @tranquility4all I'm not suggesting anything. I just see quite a bit more and more videos coming out of Japan are rape type videos. Many are likely fantasy though, so I am not sure of the ratio.

  • @skywize Porn Videos are produced around the World. It's foolish to ASSume the majority of Porn videos are produced in Japan. Before You wage a moral war against any country because of Rape Ratios of Porn videos produced You should get Your facts in order. You don't know if Rape is occurring in these videos. How much time do You spend watching Porn ?

  • @tranquility4all I did not say most porn comes from Japan. Reread that line. I happen to spend quite a bit of time watching porn as I am single. No, I don't know for a fact that the rape in those videos is real, as I have said. I can't watch that type of porn, it turns me off.

  • @skywize You stated "I'm not certain about the Rate rape in Japan due to the rather horrific porn coming out of Japan". My Question to You is, What makes the Porn produced in Japan more horrific than the Porn produced in the U.S.A. or any other Country ? Are You suggesting the amount of horrific porn (according to Your standards) is produced in Japan than all countries ? Are You an Expert on Porn ? Do You watch an extensive amount of Porn produced around the World ?

  • @skywize I'm not trying to start an Argument. However it seems You're stating Japan produces more horrific porn (according to your standards) videos than any country. If You're trying to form a correlation between the rate of Rape committed in Japan or any country to the type of porn videos produced in Japan. You're failing !

  • @tranquility4all I'm not failing, you're asking the same question over and over, and expecting different answers. Go look for yourself. Go to any porn website, and look up the word 'rape' or 'forced'. I'd say about 80%+ is Japanese, give or take about 10% for Chinese, as sometimes I'm not sure.

  • @skywize Are You so naive to believe what is depicted in porn is real. Ever hear of Play Acting ? There is plenty of porn produced in the U.S.A. which depicts rape. It doesn't mean rape is occurring.

  • @tranquility4all How exactly am I naive? How many times did I say that I wasn't sure one way or another? Did I not say specifically that 'Many are likely fantasy'? You are reading far more into a simple conversation. Perhaps you should try speaking with adults once you have matured just a little bit. Good day.

  • @skywize Obviously You're not a Mature Adult. It appears You're stating the majority of porn films which depict rape are produced in Japan. Present documentation to support Your ASSertion. It also appears You're spending way too much time watching Porn. Maybe the reason You're constantly watching porn is because no one wants to waste their time having Sex with an Immature Jerk like You. If You want to have a dialogue, Fine. If You want to trade insults, No Problem.

  • @skywize Japan has one of the lowest crime and rape rates of all time. Gun violence is almost completely 0. The rape rate is very, very low. Far lower than most countries and several times lower than the U.S. rape rate. And the gun violence comparison between Japan and the U.S. is so ridiculous it's embarrassing.

  • @swygster This, I believe.

  • If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed. - Albert Einstein

  • What an unfortunate moment to run out of time.

  • LOL at the comment below me.

  • @IKillBabyKittensLOL Right! haha What a douche bag!

  • Please visit my channel for the unpopular truth about homosexuality.

A person does not need hatred or any kind of phobia in order to acknowledge important differences between heterosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption and homosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption. Even non-religious people know this.

Homosexual activists, with support from the media, have succeeded at framing themselves as noble victims; it's an effective way to push a social agenda.

  • @lightandbeautiful I visited your channel and it's full of crap. I am not gay, but homosexuality is present in the animal kingdom as well - in case you might not consider yourself to be an animal and choose that escape route. science has already proven that homosexuals are born that way as the result of imunological processes in the womb in combination with genetics. what's your point?

  • @doyoublush While there are a few isolated examples of gay sex in nature (Bonobo chimps, for example), NONE of these animals pretend to be mated for life, none are monogomous (like human gays), none show an emotional attachment and they never ask for the definition of marriage to be changed so they can get family-oriented perks, like survivor benefits, tax breaks and insurance cuts.

Gay people are not a "kind" of person. Just people with an odd sexual appetite. Simple as that.

  • Leading a philanthropic lifestyle has never been a contingency for admission to heaven. It would appear that god is indifferent in relation to any good or bad deeds that you may perform in your lifetime.

The only action demanded is acceptance of Jesus as your savior. You can commit as many atrocities as you like and just ask forgiveness.

So, obviously the fear of hell would be completely immaterial when god forgives all sins. Just another example of gods ridiculous justice.

  • @CynicalSkeptic1 agreed!

  • I'm disappointed that time was up... that caller was behaving great.

  • @Mtaalas I love how the guy proposed his answer, then asked Matt to tell him if it was a decent answer lol.

I love it. Wish everyone was well mannered as this guy.

  • If fear of hell was needed how come the most atheist countries (European countries, Japan etc.) have the lowest violent crime, rape, drug abuse and teen pregnancy rates of the planet and rage the highest in the peace index? Fear of hell is as useless, even harmful, as the death penalty.

The problem is those kind of Americans are so ignorant they never look past their own country.

  • But it was the fear of hell that made Christians go on the crusades!!

  • Comment removed

  • Why was fear of hell not effective on Hitler? Why did it not stop him? Because he didn't think he was going to hell. It's simple. He thought he was holy.

Now, what if he didn't really believe anything? Maybe he was just a very confident man. Some people do not fear death much at all. Ever seen those guys that climb cliffs? Some people naturally are driven to the edge it seems. I am not sure why. Maybe living dangerously makes life more meaningful for them.

    Just some thoughts.

  • I am sad and angry when I hear about people being raised to be afraid of not making it to heaven or of going to hell because they have been taught religious dogma. If anyone is interested in losing their fear of hell as I have done, then study up on EMDR (eye movement desentisization and reprocessing.) Or send me a private message and I will tell you all about it.

  • @superfalcon123 EMDR is part of cognitive behavioral therapy. It was discovered in 2007 and now it is being used all over the world to treat people with PTSD, fear, and anxiey. I have used it to reduce and eliminate my fear of hell and also to reduce my emotional attachment to the religious beliefs that I was indoctrinated with.

  • @superfalcon123 A few hits of acid did it for me back in the 90s. Then I got a psych degree, which also helped.

  • stopofthesoft skill, hell didn't Queen Elizabeth I was protestant and didn't stop her from having catholics killed in her country either

  • Why is Matt with a floating head?

  • As an ex-chrisitan, I will admit that the idea of hell still makes me nervous when I think about it.

But is that reason for me to return to Christianity? No. i refuse to live in fear.

Has it stopped me from being an arsehole, when I'm an arsehole? No.

Is it the driving force for my obligation to be a decent person? No.

  • @PsychoticSnake As an ex-Christian, the idea of hell has never bothered me at all. Jesus supposedly died for my sins - ALL of them. Therefore, it doesn't matter what I do. I will never see Hell.

When I became an atheist, I realized that I all of the responsibility for my actions was now on MY shoulders - not Jesus'. That scared me a bit.

  • @PsychoticSnake i understand where your coming from because i was a christian once too. I still think from time to time "what if youre wrong". Then of course i combat it with the logical, reasonable defense. Its part of our upbringing and thats why we think about it. I dont know how long you were a christian, but i was one for the first 22 years of my life. I was raised religiously and my family are still religious. Even though I know it is right, im fighting against my upbringing.

  • The Christians myth is extremely fragile as apposed to their heads which are extremely hard.

    Vamp6661 is a butthurt twat.

  • @UnknownUserName4267 UnknownUserName4267 is dick sucking pussy queer bitch.

  • if you need to believe in heaven and hell to manage your actions then you are weak. what ever happened to rational thinking?

  • Why not spend time trying to understand Christianity not nocking it!

  • @Zwemer100 because we have and we see the faults and mistakes and believe me every reasonable atheist tries really hard not to mock u guys, not because we dont like u but because we can back up what we say and cant accept dogmatic behaviour.Dogmatic behaviour to an atheist is like showing red to the bull(i know bulls are colorblind but u get the point).Personally i have open minded christian friends and we get along just fine(my best friend is really religious).point is we dont hate u,u hate us

  • @Zwemer100 sometimes ofc not all the time. What i personally do is ask a christiian:i do good deeds i try to be a good person but dont believe in the existence of god,am i going to hell?if he says no because god will recognise my good nature or whatever then wer good.If he says im goin to hell just cause i dont believe(no matter my acts in life) then his/her religious stupidity is irreversible and i dont even spend more time with him/her.Well maybe to get on their nerves as a hobby

  • There comes a point when the blame has to be shifted from people to God. People always talk about false Christians, but the problem is this: There have been so many false Christians throughout history, many with huge followings, that you have to wonder why God didn't make it more clear how to distinguish a false Christian from a true one.

  • It's strange that so many Christians (or at least the vocal ones, who call this show) think that Hell and fear of it are a good thing, especially since that "fear" tactic is very similar to terrorists' tactics; "If you don't do as we tell you, something bad will happen to you."

I mean, come on! How can you defend fear tactics like that?

  • @Bill4Banco

"Fear of Hell is a reality"

So is the fear my son has that there is a monster just outside his window.

  • @boyinthedrain Yes. Fear of Hell may be real, but it does nothing to address whether Hell itself is real or is not real.

  • @JaytheOstrich

Nor the monster outside my son's window

  • @JaytheOstrich Hel is real an its a woman in norse mythology that takes non warriors to a different afterlife apperently.

  • @boyinthedrain Yes. Fear of Hell may be real, but it does nothing to address whether Hell itself is real or is not real.

And there isn't proof that 'fear of hell' has made people of low morals 'act better'.

  • @Bill4Banco Please tell me you didn't also miss the sarcasm. o _o

  • why would we need the threat of hell when we have the police, at least they actually will do sommething about evil acts, an empty threat isnt strong enough

  • Freedom of thought is a privilege.

My gosh; you guys are so sorry.... this show makes me laugh and cry at the same time....

sheesh ... answer-man --- you are so confused..... that includes all these callers...

chaos; prove it.... haha no need .. it's right here.

  • There's no god?

Dang... I guess that means I have to go rape and murder my neighbors.

  • @TuahShinguru do you need a god not to rape and murder. how bout empathy? or did I miss the sarcasim

  • @mkrulic517439 That last one.

  • Believing in the Christian god is almost like a free pass to be bad. A lot of Christians would agree that someone can "repent" on their deathbed and believe in Jesus/god and escape an eternal torment. You can also continue to "sin" as a Christian as well.

  • Not only that but also I heard Japan has very low crime rate and their fundamental culture don't have a concept of heaven and hell.

No but seriously what a ridiculous and childish concept heaven and hell is.

What adult in his right mind would buy it if it was presented for the first time.

  • Fear of hell didn't stop any of the evil of history. Wars, slavery, genocide, exploitation of the poor; all perpetrated by theists who just rationalized their way around punishment in the next life. It's still going on today.

  • FBI statistics show 0.2% of people in prison are atheist. We make up 8-10% of the population.

These same statistics show Protestants and Catholics are represented in our prison populations at the same rate they are represented in the US population.

Doesn't sound like this carrot and stick is doing shit does it

  • @khote14 Just by saying IM A CHRISTIAN does not make you a christian, its a way of life. A TRUE christian is NOT in prison. You Stats dont prove anything buddy

  • @mas03 ah, yes, the No True Christian defense. So when I want to know who is and is not a real christian, I only have to ask you?

  • @khote14 You dont need to ask me. You will know a true christian by his works not by what he says he is

  • @mas03 doesn't one or more of your gods forgive these imprisoned christians if they only beg and grovel enough? Isn't that how you get through your day ... I mean, being a descendant of those scumbags Adam and Eve, you don't have a chance to make it without incessant begging and groveling.

If only you could see how truly pathetic that is.

  • @khote14 Stick to the topic. Do you agree that its not what you say, but what you do?

  • @mas03 It is true in my world, the world of rational civilized humanity, but it's not true in your world. All you have to do is beg forgiveness on your deathbed, you go to heaven and those of us who refuse to believe such bullshit as you believe will burn in hell.

  • @khote14 Go ahead and switch the topic because you know Im right. But to reply to your statement, thats Completely false. You will be held responsible for all of you're actions, just by saying I believe on your deathbed doesnt mean all the bad things that you have done on earth will be forgiven, you will pay for every action.

  • @mas03 oh yes it does, it's in your book. If you beg forgiveness and really mean it, all the ugly shit you did in your life is washed away, in the blood of our lord saviour yada yada.

You are trying to ignore the facts. You are a believer, that's true, it's often startling how much disbelief is need to make such religious believing possible.

  • @khote14 Just because you dont THINK thats right does not make it not true. What you are saying is that you dont agree with the way God forgives people, but your statement does not disprove God.

  • @mas03 so who's switching the topic now?

Let me be blunt, them I'm flagging you as spam. You are an idiot, you believe primitive barbic and moron religious crap because you're too stupid and too scared to face life without your santa claus.

Grow up already, get a life, and leave the rest of us alone. Geez, what a putz.

  • @khote14 lol...I have just proved you to be wrong on 2 topics and I see you have a hard time accepting it so you get mad at a believer for making you look like a fool...Go ahead mark me as spam for all i care, Im happy because I made you look like a fool who couldent back up their claims..ahaha

  • ted bundy went to heaven because he accepted jesus christ as his savior before he died

  • I'm leery of the statistic Jeff quotes at the end. Might it be that people in prison convert to xianity out if a need to make themselves feel better or to say what will help in their parole hearings, thereby beefing up the numbers? And the percentage of professed xians in prison being so high, wouldn't that inspire the atheist to keep his mouth shut? These factors would skew the statistic. That's why I hesitate to use that one in debates about xian morality.

  • if hell existed only for the purpose make people to act better, wouldn't that be an attack to the so called "free will"? i don't belive in hell, but trust me, i wish it existed so i could send there some guys who, believing in it, act as if they wanted to go there

  • @Tarn1968 Ha! I didn't know that. Thanks for the input. The sad thing is Xian apologists will use that as an example of "the healing power of Christ," whereas I think it clearly proves my point. I pointed this out to a Xian, using the same example cited above, and he said "but you don't understand, the arsonist would have to truly repent." I said fine--so he truly repents. My point is still valid.

  • what poppycock! just because theres not a flying guy in the sky we dont need morals? oh lets all jump around like apes and kill eachother!

god has nothing to do with morals, its a simple human notion of right and wrong which we develope as we grow.

  • Religion does keep bad people on the leach, but it also causes a lot of evil, and most times bad things caused by religion outweights the good things.

Like I always say, good people need no religion.

  • Fewer atheists in prison? That's probably just because the godless sinners are smarter and get away with crimes more often than theists. Or maybe Bubba ass-reams atheists until they start believing in god, so conversion is the only way to save the hole, nevermind the soul. Thoughts?

  • @kolonial72 Save the soul, save the hole? I like that.

  • caller is an idot, religion and the bible was excuse to inflict human suffering,

  • If there was no fear of hell, there would be more crime. Think about what your saying everyone.

  • @annie10103 How can you correlate having no fear of hell with having more crime? Although some criminals DO commit certain crimes based on religion, (God told me to kill my parents or wife) most criminals have no concern or regard for either the law or religion. Criminals do not fear much of anything........even death. But they can cause YOU to fear them! Even petty crimes are commited with no remorse.

  • @talover30

Hey hey don't go all atheist on me. I'm only saying that without fear of hell there would be a few more crimes. But there might be a few less crimes as well. How should i know? How should ANYONE know? But just don't go atheist on me again okay??

  • @annie10103 Fear of hell can cause more crimes than it can stop. People believe in order to avoid hell they have to do what God wants, right? Well, they become confused when they don't know what God wants and start guessing. Some people guess killing nonbelievers is right. Some believe conquering weaker nations is right. I would say atheism is a test of morality. We can not do crimes without fear of hell. That is where true, selfless morality comes from. To do good to avoid hell is self-serving.

  • @MunkyDrag0n

Quite true but some crimes have probably been prevented by religion whereas some might have been provoked by it. :)

  • @annie10103 Name one crime that can be stopped by direct religious intervention, preferably from a Christian source. I will bet that I can name a situation where that religion can cause that crime also (not directly calling for it, but can be used as an excuse to commit said crime).

  • @MunkyDrag0n

Two words: Nicky Cruz. Look it up.

  • @annie10103 That is a pretty amazing story, but didn't Nicky's Christian parents cause his misery in the first place due to their paranoia? Other than that tidbit I guess you got me. This is one incredible instance. However, I look at all these portrayals of "gangsters" in the media and I see them with crosses around their necks and Jesus tattoos on their backs. I knew some gangsters back in my day (they killed one of my friends) and the killer said he was doing "God's work." What would you say?

  • @MunkyDrag0n

Hmmm. It is true Nicky had sixteen sibling and his parents were not christian i think but he took his anger out on animals before he ran away by torturing them and killing them. Yes he might have had religion before but it is incredible how he and some of his friends just gave up murdering because of one preacher saying "Jesus loves you".

Gosh one of your friends got killed? How awful!

    But i can't deny I see your logic. :)

  • @annie10103 Were Nicky's parents some sort of pagan religion? If anyone would persist as much as the preacher did, I'm sure Nicky would have become a good person in the end. It is just that people are afraid to die and so they refuse to help killers. Even murderers are people with issues but people can't tell if they are totally insane or just misunderstood.

  • @annie10103 I have to be honest. I don't believe religions help people. I think people help people. The preacher came to Nicky and offered friendship. He did it not because God told him to do it but because he was a very compassionate person at heart. Where was God? He was totally deaf to Nicky's ears. God always needs some other person to do the heavy lifting. It is like the old saying "Don't depend on prayer alone." Religion is a cause for good but never the means, you know what I'm saying?

  • @MunkyDrag0n

Yes I understand what you are saying. But surely religion is what influenced the preacher? Without Gods word on the preachers lips Nicky would have carried on his life of crime.Sorry to sound like an over-enthusiastic christian I mean I barely go to church and I was pagan once but I'm not drunk on God or anything I just want to defend the religion I was brought up on. :)

  • @annie10103 I think any bible verse the preacher gave would have been wasted on Nicky. I believe Nicky changed because he had someone who would listen to him and show him how to be good. Religion can be an influence but if the person isn't good on the inside or brought up to be good, then it is powerless. I think entire religions are hardly wrong but some of their parts are wrong (like the Old Testament). Until someone comes up with a belief system with no faults I can't apply to any religion.

  • @MunkyDrag0n

Oh okay. I think maybe we should stop this debate because we are taking up the whole page. And plus i'm losing. Lol :-)

  • Fear is the most destructive force in the universe, fear is evil and stupid, anyone who says fear is good and needed needs to have their head examined and the promotion of fear in the bible has done so much damage that its not even funny.

  • Sheesh, do you guys only have one caller on your whole show???????/ BOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRINGGGGGGG

  • @Iamajanitor01 Call in. It's free. I would LOVE to hear your defense of xianity. Please enlighten us.

  • @Iamajanitor01 Hey Genius Utube only allows 10 minutes of vid that's why if U want to watch another caller intereaction U have to move Ur mouse so that the cursor (the little arrow on Ur screen) will go over to one of those little boxes with the picture in them, when the arrow turns into a hand left click Ur mouse and U can watch another one. Hope that helped and U won't be so bored now.......lol.

  • @Iamajanitor01 The show isn't 5 minutes long dumbass.

  • The threat of hell as a means to good behavior is no different from a threat of violence or personal harm to achieve a desired behavior.

Basically, it's extortion. It's that simple.

  • Anyone who is a rapist or murderer in waiting, if not for the "grace of god" that's what they would be, should be behind bars or executed. Anyone who needs the threat of hell to keep them from killing or raping, is a sick, twisted, and evil individual who does not belong in our society.

  • You cannot have true spirituality with the threat of eternal hanging over a persn's head, there is no spirituality in abject terror.

  • fear is the mind killer

  • fear of hell unfortunately wasnt enough for hitler, who as we know, was catholic.

  • @stopthesoftkill

why would he fear hell? acording to the bible, he's in heaven, cause he accepted JC...

  • @stopthesoftkill HE WAS NOT HITLER MAY HAVE HELD PUBLIC PRAYERS BUT THERE IS NO WAY HE ACTUALLY WAS A CATHOLIC!

  • @peoplearemessedup True, he may not have personally believed in the Abrahamic God but he was smart enough to use religion as a way to get most of the people to think that what he was doing was good and just because " God gave a thumbs up". He didn't have to personally believe it to say "God told me so".

  • @peoplearemessedup His own writen book says otherwise.

  • i am a christian myself so of course you can say that i am bias. i would just like to ask what credentials referring to theology any of you have. not to insult, i am not here for that i actually enjoy learning and seeing what you all have to say. also the correct term for someone who studies theology is a theologian not a theist....for the record. =)

  • @cjjacobson127 Correct. A person who studies theology is a theologian. However many Atheists or people who aren't religious understand theology as well as any theologian or religious person. You don't have to be a religious person or a theologian to understand religion. Many people who reject christianity understand it as well as any christian. There are many theists who aren't religious.

  • @stopthesoftkill Hell and an oven must feel very similar.

  • @stopthesoftkill but Hitler didn't think he was doing anything wrong. the bible even says about the jews that crucified jesus 'blood shall be upon their children, and their children's children' (or something like that). that was one of the reasons he thought it was justified.

again shows the fucked up morals of the bible..

  • @MrWaddefak yeah like treating thy neighbor like yourself, not judging other people, giving to the poor. if you as me those are some SERIOUSLY messed up morals and need to be addressed asap.

  • @MrSupasexi go read Deuteronomy.

  • @MrWaddefak well i found: do not steal, murder, or commit adultery, cancel any debts you hold against people, and free servents not empty handed lmao. doesnt sound that bad to me

  • @MrSupasexi do you know what's required in order to cherry pick verses from the bible?? secular beliefs and rational thought!

you're on your way, kid... you're on your way.

    atheism ftw.

  • @MrSupasexi Way to pick and choose like most theists do. What about all the other stuff? Like Stoning adulterers or putting someone to death for working on the Sabbath (Sunday)? Like many Christians do they pick and choose what they want to adhere to out of the bible.

  • @GoongalaGoongala well first off those verses you are talking about are in the old testament and no longer apply to us today. secondly i go by what did jesus did, he refused to stone a women caught in adultery even the the laws said to stone such a person. dont worry my friend god is nothing to fear, he is pure LOVE, jah bless

  • @stopthesoftkill he belives what he was doing was holy and right bla bla bla jews killed jesus kind of thing so he belived he will be forgiven if he takes down the most evil of them all aka jews tough we were not evil e-e its just what he tought and what the world told him so thats the reason why and if you wonder i think hitler him self was brain washed by the country where he lived it pretty much the countrys were evil they made hitler who he is.

  • @stopthesoftkill Hitler wasn't afraid of hell, according to him it was he who was doing god's work. Which makes sense because, as we heathens know, religion makes you batshit crazy.

  • @stopthesoftkill HITLER was NOT a CHRISTIAN. Just because you say you are doesnt mean you are. IF i say im an ATHEIST but I go to church every sunday and read the bible that dosent make me an Atheist. Its not what you say, but what you do. Killing millions of people is not a CHRISTIAN act i dont care if he said he was, by killing millions of people proves that he wasnt a christian

  • @mas03: I love how christians keep on telling themselves that all those christians who did all those horrible things are no real christians. XD That's like saying all those millards of atheists who are good are in reality christians.

And the bible clearly states that all you have to do to be a true christian is to believe in and accept God and (later) Jesus. You can be as good as you want, if you don't accept God you are going to hell. Ergo God does care more about you faith than your actions.

  • I think I actually agree with this caller. But I like the positive outlooks of the AE people, and half agree with them that need of god is likely not needed any longer. Infact it's probably hurting more than helping at this point (dark ages, Islamic extremists, the stupid shit Ray Comfort and other creationist douches are doing to ensure we fall back into another 1000 years of dark age bullshit, etc.)

  • I just wish that these guys actually KNEW FIRST HAND what the fear of hell does to a little kid's mind (I do): it has made me worse (angry, paranoid, etc). Torture doesn't make anyone love themselves or love life, fear makes people stop thinking and it classically aids fascism. It makes people easier to influence as they they stop choosing for themselves and start doing what the "pastor" says, if people were happy nobody would commit crime, and "hell" is the furthest fling from happiness.

  • Scaring people into doing good with hell is sad. People who fall for that aren't good out of genuinely making themselves better, but cause they want or expect something or some reward in return. If that's what keeps someone in a religion then I don't want anything to do with any religion. I don't wanna live my life due to fear of the unknown, I wanna make my stay here pleasurable and make my world a better place.

  • Very, very, very scary caller. Horrible way of thinking!

  • The Associated Press, using data supplied by the US Census Bureau, found that the highest divorce rates are to be found in the Bible Belt. The conservative states are roughly 50 percent above the national average of 4.2 per thousand people.

The bible belt also has the highest rate of spousal abuse, child abuse, and illiteracy. Apparently their belief in their god and his magic book of stories doesn't make them less violent, less ignorant or less miserable in their marriages.

  • Look at the violent nations like Palestine, Afghanistan, Somalia or Haiti. All are poor, violent, and 100% religious.

Think about the most educated, safest nations on earth: Canada, Japan, Scandinavia, New Zealand, etc. all largely non-religious.

Not only can you find these patterns if you compare, say, the secular Sweden, and the more religious parts of the world, but you can even find it within the USA (if you compare the more religious states with the less religious ones)!

  • @4me2cclearly - I mean just look at Iceland: "You can smoke hash in church and Janet Jackson's nipple is on the flag."

  • @4me2cclearly well said i agree

  • I AM GOD, IF YOU DONT WORSHIP ME AND GIVE ME YOUR WOMEN, I ASSURE YOU WILL BE DOING GRUNT WORK IN HELL.......send me a text if you need to be saved

  • @desconocidos27 Pff didn't leave a text number, God fails again.

  • @thetravelingboy oh jut dial 666...my direct number

  • @desconocidos27 LOL

  • At one point in my life, I thought that without fear of retribution of some kind, people would act immorally, and then, my belief in "God" left. I thought, "okay, now I can do whatever I want and get ahead". Getting past your own morality is much harder than it sounds.

  • Religion is just choosing to feel guilty for being something you never chose to be, human.

  • yeah they are the same islam and christianity !

there both from the middle east

  • Matt makes a great point. If a Christian was to suddenly become an apostate, the chances that he will go out and start raping and killing because he no longer believes in heaven or hell are almost zero

  • Followers of the world's various religions are driven by fear, this is what drives them to commit various heinous acts, in the name of religion. The religions of the world use various tactics to frighten people into believing, and offer door prizes, like an after life, reincarnation, etc. The only people who actually live without fear of hell, are Atheists. The only people who fear hell, or the equivalent, are the faithful.

  • 'I believe there is a purpose for everything' and he calls *them* naive! ha!

  • Fear of hell is good? What's good about making people behave properly just to save their hypocritical asses? Morals are something that should happen by conviction, not by psychological blackmail from some imaginary monster.

  • Fear of Hell is sad. People who are scared to death by Hell, where every moment is a scary step that must be taken with caution, are sad and tragic.

  • is hell inside the earths core

  • @alwaysadjacent2love

Well it sure is warm in there, and probably rather unpleseant.

  • it was getting interesting "im gonna have to cut u both off...." lol

  • Drats I'm out of popcorn!!

    P.S. Greeting and salutations.

  • I disagree with the caller. I think Christianity gives criminals cover for bad behavior, because as long as you believe, really believe, and beg for salvation, the Christian religion says you are saved. The Christian arsonist who burns the school down is saved and goes to Heaven. The atheist Fireman who saves the children inside goes to Hell.

  • @DandAinTac

The reason you are going to hell is because you did not accept meatball, the son of the giant spaghetti monster, as your savior and you refused to eat the garlic bread of his body.

  • @DandAinTac

    Well put

  • @DandAinTac Great example with the arsonist and fireman.

  • Why do atheist always say PROVE it?, when a Christian's doesn't agree with their logic. When (true) Christian's debate they only debate because they wont ask you to prove something they know you can't.I am a christian and the Word of God, the bible, is his proof.we may not be able to show you word for word, but because of free will that is something you have to see for yourself. And just because someone says I'm a christian doesn't make them one but knowing Christ and living for Him does.

  • @lawananethery Atheists and skeptics say Prove it because we want to base our lives on good information and true beliefs rather than bad information and false beliefs. So we use a method that we find to be useful for distinguishing fact from fantasy, and that is by evidence and proof. Don’t you agree that it’s a positive thing to sort out falsehoods and fictions and lies? That’s why we ask for a demonstration. :)
