N97 is shit phone, i wasted my money and time. Once battery gone off, i could not turn phone on even with new battery. Never i had this problem before, top shit, check my video, microwave n97
Hey I was wondering whether Nokia had fixed some of these issues on the N97 mini ...such as the ram problems etc...or the quickoffice editing ...or whether they had made updates to solve those issues?
i'm just wondering whether 9 months down the line since this video...have some of the points you raised changed? improved?
I have used both products, Nokia and Iphone.. Nokia wins hands down.. if you like "dummied-down" products than iphone is for you.. iphone's biggest problem is battery issues...I've had on occassions seen my iphone go from full charge to less than 10% in a matter of hours.. would you call that reilabie ? NOkia hands down.
Nice Review.....but hey! Absolon3, after four month of posting this review, can u say Nokia has made some improvement with the keypad? Am a journalist and thinking of using it to write mini-blogs......do i go for it? Your response is highly appreciated.
The Switch does that because it's a safety feature. since the phone is being kept in a pocket, the switch can be activated accidentally. - I like that feature.
Its a shame that you dont do Nokia no more. Would love to see a review from you of the Nokia e72 and the Nokia N900. Let us know if you would change your mind!
I really don't know if I can trust the N900 to be the merger that I am looking for from Nokia, for it's all about advertising before the actual device is released. After the N97, I am not getting swayed by positive remarks from Nokia or its fans on any new products.
While I hope the best for the N900, I am a bit skeptical that it could be the best solution over my current Touch Pro 2. It seems to be an Internet tablet first and phone second, which could potentially be a problem.
i gave back my FAIL N97 but why? expecting a phone work decent(not awesome) out of box is too much? out oıf BOX N97 is fail..why unbrand etc etc dude? out box N97 is problematic.
thats why you have to solve your problem. use your brain :)
if thats your solution then so be it. I dont care. Im just suggesting ways to improve the phone. Well if you dont want what im suggesting its fine with me.
we have different peceptions with regards to the performance of the phone. Maybe for you its not "decent" but for me it is. So quit complaining about your N97 crap. okay? ciao. :)
lol dude i cant u cant understand what i mean..i have also e71 which is awesome and very good phone of Nokia. its AWESOME out of BOX...no update needed..but N97? anyway dude .u r biased and u r happy..me? me happy too :). problem? NO ..take good care.
trent, as i'm talking to u right now, i just just finish watching the video about the nokia N900 and i think it's bloody awesome....please make a review as soon as u can...the overall experience is suppose to be better than n97.
You can take the battery out without the help of any paper clip etc, just open the battery cover and pop the device's back onto your hand and the battery is out.
2nd, you've failed to mention the miserable quality of the speakers' sound. Its hand free option is not meant to be hand free as you've to bring the phone near the ears to listen voice or music or whatever!
I came to a similar conclusion. For me Palm OS is still the best option available. This device fails as a Phone, fails as a multimedia device and fails as an office tool. The only thing it accels at being is a convergence device. As a phone answering is buggy (I usually miss calls & accessing contacts is horrid),
As a multimedia device AVI playback is very crude (voices don't sync or playback is choppy) & as an office tool the keyboard & OS layout are very annoying. 2.5 out of 5 stars.
LOL It Sounds Like You Need To Take Your N97 To The Nokia Care Department Because Your Phone Is Definately Defective. I Have None Of The Problems That You Have.
Then you must be the only one with an N97 thats not (to use your word) "Defective". I never said the phone was broken. It works fine (Even if the OS is buggy). I along with many others including the poster of this vid just dont like the way it works. But if you do then thats cool. Im happy for you. Is this your first real smart Phone? Real meaning;
Have you ever had a Palm, WM or Symbian device before?
Duh must be the first and last thought by you every day. I figure your days must go something like this; Duh ??????? Yawn, Duh, zzzzzz. And tomorrow when you wake up you just do it again. Duh ??????? Yawn, Duh, zzzzzz. Its not even funny.
It's ok device and there will be market for it, won't sell 17 million like N95 but still.
I will be eyeing for Nokia World in September 2-3 and Rover(aka N900) and other phoens announced there and make my choice between HTC Pro 2, Iphone 3GS.
WOW!! I love the enthusiasm of your phone reviews - you're like me. lol
I thought the space key position would be a bone of contention, but glad it was not an issue.
I am, however, very surprised by your revelation - moving on from Nokia. That HTC Pro 2 looks like it may have what you need. Waiting for your impression on that device!
Great review as always. ~ I did pre-order my MyTouch (in Merlot! lol), I'm very curious about this Android stuff. We'll see.
I understand that editing doesn't come free on the NSeries and must be purchased. As for the N97, an editing version for Quickoffice was not available at all. Even if someone was willing to buy an editing key, he would have had to wait for a compatible version of Quickoffice to be released first.
I have the same problem. I now use E61i, looked at the E71, but really looking for something you are also looking for. A mix between the N & E series. Thank you for your (very) helpful review.
The qwerty on the Xperia appears to have keys that are too small, and I have concerns about Sony Ericsson reliability after my past experience with the P990. I have also read online reviews that were only moderately positive on the interface of that model.
Trent, keep doing a good job your the best. I trust your reviews. You help me to keep my hard earned money in my pocket and to spend it on devices that are worth it. I all most fell for the N97 hype .Great specs aren't enough. I think you will like the Blackberry Bold, Palm Pre, or the HTC Hero.
Nokia let me down too .. next version/release they better come up with a OLED touch screen, a built in mini projector, full qwerty touch screen key pad ( in addition to slide out ) and of course a faster CPU .. if not its bye bye Nokia from me....
I just hate that all of these cellphone makers think they can come out with a device with great specs and expect it to satisfy everyone. Software first, hardware second. Thats why the iphone, android, and palm pre right now are on top (oops im forgetting blackberry). Nokia, you own the dumbphone market already, please just make some better and more intuitive smartphones.
You make good reviews :) I hope you find your device. I've switched through so many blackberries, htcs from winmo to android, i've also had nokias and a few iphones... The Blackberry Bold is so far the best device I've found for business (good keyboard, awesome screen quality, fast cpu and VERY good multitasking). Instant Messengers are integrated into the OS as well as the BEST (no doubt ANYONE will EVER argue) email system out there :)... Good luck!
hey trent, i know you like qwerty keypads so i won't recommend the phone i use and love (iphone), however, i would give the Palm Pre a spin. check out jon4lakers review and overview if you haven't already it looks like a very promising phone. htc also puts out some good products. the great thing about the phone market these days is all these companies continue to try to outdo each other so we as consumers end up winning. sounds like nokia may be falling behind though.
Still, the keyboard problem is not an excuse for it not being directed towards e-series users. Any phone should cater the best keyboards for any users. Just my opinion.
I really respect your integrity when reviewing and it's true the E-series has become stagnant in what it has to offer in comparison to the other nokia series.
I get where you are coming from what makes people stay with a product line is new emerging technologies of their favourite techs. and if nothing great is being offered while other lesser companies seem be doing it might be time to move on.
Hope you find what you're looking for in some other phone. Looking forward to watching the review
Make fun of this guy if you want, but if you look through most reviews like Noah from phonedog, engadget and gizmodo, they really don't like this phone. Trent has been all about Nokia so I am sure it was hard for him to say anything bad about it, but at the end of the day he is a professional and he just had to say how it is.
Thanks very much, for I couldn't have said it better myself. It can be a nuisance to receive unwarranted negative feedback just when I am being honest in my own opinion about these devices.

dude i agree n97 a gr8 let down by nokia ,expectations were so high...m using my n82 which is much cheaper then n97 n is much stronger in specifications n also in built quality
you could have just posted the last updated section of the video as a separate video not with the previous one, it saves much time than having to watch the whole video again or waiting for it to load until the end.

And you could always buy edit key to enable editing in the office program.
