people stop with buying a tank that you find pretty, but buy a tank that is good for the fish.do you like a box where you cannot move?and the poor thing also have no plants or hidden places.buy something else ,this is not good for the fish.you have to give him the opportunity to swim, not swim little circles!do a good thing for him and buy a normal aquarium with hidden places.happy new year everyone and grts from belgium
reading that info box, it seems your the one who needs to sort out their priorities, not us. That is a living animal and not giving it the proper water conditions and living conditions is a little something called ANIMAL CRUELTY.
Im sure its dead by now posted in 2006. I agree w/ @saprated25 Wal mart still markets them as being able to live in a small amount of water. If u go to their pet department many of the betas are floating .
I can't put all blame on the owner, the pet industry actually does promote the idea that bettas thrive and are happy in miniscule bodies of water. At one point, they were actually marketing bettas vases and told people how it was a self-contained environment that needed no cleaning and no food (supposedly they ate the roots and algae of the plants...which they probably did do eventually b/c of starvation). Jeez.
yeah maybe a betta CAN survive in a tank like that, just like humans COULD survive in a chilly, cramped, bathroom, but would you be happy? highly doubt it! get it a better tank, even a 3 gallon would be good. with a heater and a filter. your betta would be much happier and most likely live longer.
hey geniuses! thats a standard betta tank he or she has their betta in you can get them from betta sites, local pets stores, wal-marts, ect so before opening your mouths and compalining about the tank stop and think about the tanks that are sold FOR the bettas, 5-50 gallons are for other fish like goldies, mollies, oscars, etc. bettas can and do die in larger tanks because they see their reflection and ram the side :P a friend lost a betta in a 5 gallon that way
@HamatoKameko like you would know? read more facts about bettas and the reflective quality of glass and then talk to me when your more educated about it :P
@DomSubmissiveKitty I've raised bettas for years and I imagine I've read plenty in all that time. And in all that time, I've never heard of a betta stupid enough to "ram into the glass" enough to kill itself. It's likely it died from another reason that went unnoticed and him attacking the glass was a coincidence.
@HamatoKameko ive raised bettas for years too as pets :P my oldest lived to be 7 years old before he passed. They all lived in standard betta bowls that you can buy at wal-mart. I dont pull out fancy crap because to much room is not easy to clean when you dont have the time, plus bettas natural territory is only 1 to 2 feet in diameter, a small fish with a small territory, makes since to me so a large tank is intimmidating to them especially loaded with NON NATIVE fish species.
@DomSubmissiveKitty Oh god the "bettas only live in puddles anyway" argument. It's simply not true, and you using this argument makes me wonder just how much you've actually read about bettas. Misinformation abounds about the species. Bettas are native to ponds, slow-moving streams and rice paddies. Not puddles. And large tanks do not "intimidate" bettas; many people keep their bettas in 10 gallons or more, with or without other fish, and their bettas are very active and happy.
@HamatoKameko i never said "puddles" :P i said 1 to 2 feet of water, the typical water depth of rice paddies moron and bettas do not live in ponds. Streams MAYBE if there isnt a strong current and definently rice paddies. I know more about bettas then you think. I've researched day in and day out about the natural history of bettas and all the information I've researched ever stated they reside in ponds. By the way, race padies are filtered/filled with stream water, that's how they end up there.
Geez...my betta is in a 10 gallon with a filter and heater...he's not just a cup fish he's a fish that need's SPACE.. what's wrong with you?.. :/ just because " petco/petsmart" sell's those tiny little tank does NOT mean that's what betta's want or need :( this is sad...
Damn it people!! Have mercy. Not everyone was born with an encyclopedia installed in their heads like you, smart a**es!!
First of all, the video is almost (( FIVE )) freakin years old!!! Second, instead of criticizing and insulting, you could simply tell the guy that a proper fish care requires a spacious tank, a heater, a water filter and an air pump, so that your fish will stay healthy, beautiful and will last longer than you thought!
Firstly your fish looks fine and as long as you clean out the water and feed them properly your bowl is big enough, secondly I hate it when people say: "they are only fish!" fFISH DO HAVE FEELINGS YOU KNOW!
Hey guys lay off. His fish is fine. My sister and I both got bettas. I invested in mine and got it a 5gal w/ filter, heater, plants, and I even used a friends gravel so it was cycled. My sis got a bowl just like this. Mine lived a few months, her is still thriving after 2 years.
That fish is swimming around and around, mentally disassembling the universe and reassembling it over and over again. That fish holds the secret of life.
first of all bettas dont need large tanks they can live in puddles in thailand a vietnam where they originate. where they live the water is brown because of bananna/almond leaves my step dad breeds plakats the shortfin betta . the real fighters so I no what im talking about. so all you people that dont know what the fuck your talikng about shut up! his tank is more than fine..
@Thecashvilleskater Here's the thing, though: just because something is USED to something, doesn't mean they're happy with it.
Funny thing is, though, that all colorful Bettas are bred in the home, in aquariums, and are NOT used to small muddy puddles, nor should they be subjected to it. This isn't a tank, it's a bowl with shitty LED lights.
@listerfiendish22 The only reason Bettas are kept in cups is because they're being sold within a short time, and if you put them in separate tanks you'd have to have one fish per tank because they FIGHT. It's too much trouble and they don't need filtered water for temporary housing. If you want to have a fish live longer than a year or two, you put it in a filtered tank bigger than the shitty cup it's in.
What about a dog then? Or a cat? Are you saying it would be alright to treat these living creatures (who DO have feelings and feel pain) like garbage because they’re not human? Would you be the kind of person who tethers a dog to a foot long chain, in abominable weather, with no food or water, and only go out to visit it when you feel like beating up on something because you view it as less than you? Your ignorant comment implies this.
Its a cute tank but the size of it is too small. Its like putting your kid in a closet to live. If you don't give a damn about fish you should have never got one. And by the way a life is a life wether its a human life or an animal life. It's not a robot without feelings and needs. It's a FISH which has living needs just as any other pet and or human you idiot. If you really loved your Herbet you'd buy him a new tank. But you don't. Sorry Herbert, I'd take care of you if you were mine <3
IGNORE ALL THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the tank is pretty cool, maybe a bit bigger, but it is great if ur betta is swimming around alot high energy, he likes his home And he is happy!! GREAT JOB CARING FOR HIM!!
hay guys, petsmart sells the fish in smaller containers. they say that it is enough. this guy put his fish in a cooler tank, tat looks a litttle bigger. mines in two gallons though witch i do think is better, but if his fish was still at petsmart it would be dead like the other 19 i saw the otherday
you should be arrested for animal cruelty, seriously. That beautiful Betta you have there is dieing a slow, painful and boring death. you should go and hand it back to the animalstore, where they can take care of it, because you definately isn't able to take care of anything but yourself and your selfish life.

That beautiful Betta you have there is dieing a slow, painful and boring death. you should go and hand it back to the animalstore, where they can take care of it, because you definately isn't able to take care of anything but yourself and your selfish life.
Oh dear. I hope to god you don't get any more pets :( Oh gosh, please give this little guy a better life...You have a life in your hands and you are neglecting it :(
@racedragon Sir.. i'm a female.. and I have 20-gallon tank with over 40 tetra in it, and my tank has been running for.. I don't know.. 4 years? But please, improve your English, that's really starting to bother me. If we're to continue talking, i'd have to understand more than just half of your reply to give you a legit response.
]I'm aware of the fact that this is a rather small tank, but to be perfectly honest with you I could care less. It's a freakin' fish, not a toddler. For those of you who are concerned with the well-being of my fish and his inhumane living arrangements (take note of the word 'inhumane' notice how one of the keywords in it is 'human' and not 'fish'] - I can only say that you have a poor choice of words @PrevalentDisease is right. You don't understand what happiness is if you can give it properly.
"but to be perfectly honest with you I could care less"
Then why the hell did you even get it, no matter how small believe it or not thats a living thing and it might not have the capability to do advanced math but it still has the capability to feel UNHAPPY
Really retard the word inhumane doesnt mean fish? Do you even know what inhumane means? Inhumane - characterized by tenderness, compassion, and sympathy for people and animals, esp. for the suffering or distressed:
Being inhumane means not being humane which means using your advanced HUMAN intellect and HUMAN compassion to care for these less intelligent creatures that dont have the intelligence or ability to take care of themselves.
So dont try to make yourself feel better, this is INHUMANE
what is with the red blinking light in the back of the tank? 2. thats an extremely small bowl ( if i can even call it a bowl). i have EACH of my bettas in a 5 gallon tank. Get him a bigger tank.
you should seriously get help if you can honestly say you dont care how a living thing feels. would you like to be locked in a room for the rest of your life? answer is no. you bastard i hope you rot in hell.
It's unfortunate that the misconception that bettas prefer small spaces has spread so far.... I can't believe that people consider that common knowledge nowadays. Please, get a tank 2.5 gallons or bigger as well as a heater for your pet. Bettas are living things too, and deserve much better treatment.
@thegeckoproduction If the vase is bigger than 1 gallon and clean yes. Fake plants are okay, I use plastic, but I've heard silk plants are better as plastics can tear their fragile tails, I've never had a problem with them though.
as long as you have a small heater(not one of those pre-set ones, but an adjustable one), then yeah! i have a female betta in a 1.5, and she's happy as a clam. :3
i bought the same exact bowl yearsss ago...I didn't know better back then, the fish is so unhappy is such small place , can JUMP out of the bowl, there is no room to swim and exercise or a plant or something to hide :(
How would you like to live in a powder room for your whole life? and it was really really cold?
How about you take your own outlook on life and send that fish to someone who cares about it. I swear, it would be happier in those tiny cups at the pet store.
If you can't get a proper tank with filter and heater, DON'T GET A FREAKING FISH.
They aren't toys or decorations, they are living creatures.
I know you said you couldnt care less and if we were going to trash you to go read a book (wtf why would we go read a book?) you should at least give it away or get a 2 liter tank.
Every time I watch a video that has a description on auto-defense, I feel sorry for the person making the video. Why? Because to it it just seems that they are socially inept.
Aww :( You should get the poor fish a tank...3 litres is a good size.. and u should get it some plants and gravel! Perhaps some rocks? poor fishy...and get rid OF THAT LIGHT!
If you don't care about the life of your fish, then, if I may ask, why did you FREAKING BUY HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE???!!!! The proper care for a betta fish is at LEAST 2 gallons, it's not that hard to get a two gallon tank with filter for, like what, 20 U.S. dollars?
@TheChocolateCrunchy well i am getting a betta and i think he will hve at least a two gallon tank (thats all i can pay for and my parents wont let me get a bigger one)
@TheChocolateCrunchy additionally, I was simply stating that the fish is probably smaller than people are assuming, and the conditions are not as horrendous as they seemed. Don't you have better shit to do than to respond to every comment on some random youtube video about a betta? Get a fucking life, seriously.
@smbarletta Honey, I'm a BAMF, and it isn't rocket science to see that this fish is in a tiny fish tank. Bitch better not buy the fish if he/she/it can't be bothered to size the tank to fit the proper living conditions. TheChocolateCrunchy isn't the only one who needs a life when you reply to their comment with two more bitchy-ass comments. I recall, 'Don't try to act high and mighty while cowering behind the veil of the internet. You little shit.'
@TheChocolateCrunchy honey, I am a marine science major at the university of south carolina, don't patronize me. I understand how water chemistry works, and how to make a fish happy and healthy. Don't try to act high and mighty while cowering behind the veil of the internet. You little shit.
Oh, and I don't give a fuck how much of a betta activist you are, 5 gallons is still captivity. If you weren't a hypocrite you would be preaching that animals are meant to be free, not to be captives.
You have a lovely betta. He definitely looks happy. I have one just like him. However, my betta got sick last month with a swimbladder disorder... I had owned him for a year, so I was attached and didn't want to lose him. Someone told me to try a bigger tank with a heater, so I did...
My fish has gotten SO much better. Unfortunately, he seems to have permanent damage, but he's still kickin'.
So please consider upgrading your tank. It'll do great for your Betta in the long run.
my little cousin had that same bowl a few years ago with a betta in it. I like fish so when i saw it i was like. oh god. not another tard who doesn't know anything about fish. of course she got everything from wal mart too. who cares if it's 'just a fish. it's a living thing too. it feels pain and boredom. =/ i hate how people who think people who dislike this have to be an activist. no, you just have to have some compassion!
I think its rather funny and interesting how just about all of you "activists" are chanting hate words at this guy. Yes, he has a fish and indeed it's in a small bowl. However, none of you that have pets are any better. A large tank or a small bowl makes no difference when your still keeping it captive. Hypocrite is a decent description for the likes of you people. PS: By "you people" I mean idiots of course.
@liveonthereartire i don't need to be an "activist" to know when something is really wrong. i hate when someone justify others behavior. i would be glad to keep YOU on a bowl, that would make you happy? and the right word for nodnaLtreboR is not "inhuman". you both are ignorant, when is well known that a bowl is not their natural enviroment to live to any fish or animal.
@liveonthereartire yea not to mention its a round bowl which is distorting the image of the fish, its probably bout half the size it looks. i mean i kept my betta in a 3 gal heated and filtered tank, but that was after months of keeping him in a bowl the size of two fists. ironically he didnt have any problems till that tank, he died after like 2 months in the tank. weird.
Ok ive i've done the same thing with my Beta fish, but i just got a bigg Vase, Nice soft Stones, and a soft plant for the middle, he has plenty of room to swimm, and has a nice environment. His tank gets cleaned one a month, but the water changed one or twice a fortnight, He seems happy enough :)
the description to this video was kinda pointless, no one would have commented about why its in such a small tank if the creator didn't write it, plus would have prevented all the controversy.
i hate u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ur fish r living things too it dosent matter if its a toddler or not give it at least 2 gallon tank wow u r stupid! That poor fish!
wow, sophiefallonapileofneedles chill. they are kept in the sun in a small beer cup at the pet store. I'll send you the five bucks so you can "liberate" this fish yeesh.
fighter fish preffer to be in small confined spaces as it makes them feel safe due to them being shy lonely fish, although i am not condoning this guys actions. fighter fish are air breathers , they can live in the smallest amounts of water as long as there is enough available air to breath and they dont need much at that as they hold thear breath for long periods of time
See it's people like you that make me dislike the human race. Their so caught up in thier own arrogance that they don't care about the pain of other species. The life of even a BUG is no less important then a human. Do us a favor and please don't get any more pets until you learn the meaning and gift of life.
Although betas ARE use to small tanks and whatnot it's still not good to coop them up.
@PandaChan164 A bug is no less important than a human? I don't know anyone who would be caught in a moral conundrum between an ant and a person if they could only save one.
You could care less about a fish's well being and happy-ness? Well then I sure hope you don't have any kids or any other pets cuz im sure it would be the same with them!

That beautiful Betta you have there is dieing a slow, painful and boring death. you should go and hand it back to the animalstore, where they can take care of it, because you definately isn't able to take care of anything but yourself and your selfish life.

Why did you waste your money on something you could "care less" about?
Was it to bring some tranquility into your life or perhaps the bowl matched your decor so you just had to buy it along with the fish.

It's a betta fish, dumbasses. They prefer small tanks.
PlasmaLeaderN 1 year ago
@PlasmaLeaderN
no they dont, they can be kept in them.
i have a betta in a 54liter aquarium,he has never looked as beautifull as now.
bettas can be kept in small tanks cause of their labyrint organ, which alows them 2 live in very dirty puddles.
often they get shy in a big tank, which is caused by living in a cup atleast half of their lives.
i think if u want a betta, read about it..it need a 54 liter tank which is 60 cm x 30cm x 30 cm
also needs a heater& a filter.

StradAmatiViolin 1 year ago
"but to be perfectly honest with you I could care less"
Then why the hell did you even get it, no matter how small believe it or not thats a living thing and it might not have the capability to do advanced math but it still has the capability to feel UNHAPPY
Dick
PrevalentDisease 1 year ago
Really retard the word inhumane doesnt mean fish? Do you even know what inhumane means? Inhumane - characterized by tenderness, compassion, and sympathy for people and animals, esp. for the suffering or distressed:
Being inhumane means not being humane which means using your advanced HUMAN intellect and HUMAN compassion to care for these less intelligent creatures that dont have the intelligence or ability to take care of themselves.
So dont try to make yourself feel better, this is INHUMANE

It's unfortunate that the misconception that bettas prefer small spaces has spread so far.... I can't believe that people consider that common knowledge nowadays. Please, get a tank 2.5 gallons or bigger as well as a heater for your pet. Bettas are living things too, and deserve much better treatment.

thegeckoproduction 1 year ago
@thegeckoproduction If the vase is bigger than 1 gallon and clean yes. Fake plants are okay, I use plastic, but I've heard silk plants are better as plastics can tear their fragile tails, I've never had a problem with them though.

How about you take your own outlook on life and send that fish to someone who cares about it. I swear, it would be happier in those tiny cups at the pet store.
If you can't get a proper tank with filter and heater, DON'T GET A FREAKING FISH.

If you don't care about the life of your fish, then, if I may ask, why did you FREAKING BUY HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE???!!!! The proper care for a betta fish is at LEAST 2 gallons, it's not that hard to get a two gallon tank with filter for, like what, 20 U.S. dollars?
Animal2Fish0 1 year ago
@TheChocolateCrunchy well i am getting a betta and i think he will hve at least a two gallon tank (thats all i can pay for and my parents wont let me get a bigger one)
amfruhling 1 year ago
@TheChocolateCrunchy additionally, I was simply stating that the fish is probably smaller than people are assuming, and the conditions are not as horrendous as they seemed. Don't you have better shit to do than to respond to every comment on some random youtube video about a betta? Get a fucking life, seriously.
smbarletta 1 year ago
@smbarletta Honey, I'm a BAMF, and it isn't rocket science to see that this fish is in a tiny fish tank. Bitch better not buy the fish if he/she/it can't be bothered to size the tank to fit the proper living conditions. TheChocolateCrunchy isn't the only one who needs a life when you reply to their comment with two more bitchy-ass comments. I recall, 'Don't try to act high and mighty while cowering behind the veil of the internet. You little shit.'
ILikeToEatCookies121 1 year ago
@TheChocolateCrunchy honey, I am a marine science major at the university of south carolina, don't patronize me. I understand how water chemistry works, and how to make a fish happy and healthy. Don't try to act high and mighty while cowering behind the veil of the internet. You little shit.
Oh, and I don't give a fuck how much of a betta activist you are, 5 gallons is still captivity. If you weren't a hypocrite you would be preaching that animals are meant to be free, not to be captives.

tittles123456 1 year ago
You don't even know the difintions for the word "inhumane" so STFU.
THE MAIN DEFINITION FOR INHUMANE IS "LACKING COMPASSION".
You yourself say you don't care if it's too small for your fish.
Where is the campassion? Would you keep a dog confined to a small room all of it's life and say it doesn't matter because it's not a "human"?
You don't give a damn about your fish so STFU. Not caring is what makes you inhumane.

Hi there. :)

I think that every person who puts a betta in a cup or a bowl should live their life in a outdoor toilet, nice with enough room to barely turn around
nexzabuza 1 year ago
my little cousin had that same bowl a few years ago with a betta in it. I like fish so when i saw it i was like. oh god. not another tard who doesn't know anything about fish. of course she got everything from wal mart too. who cares if it's 'just a fish. it's a living thing too. it feels pain and boredom. =/ i hate how people who think people who dislike this have to be an activist. no, you just have to have some compassion!

itsmackita 1 year ago
I think its rather funny and interesting how just about all of you "activists" are chanting hate words at this guy. Yes, he has a fish and indeed it's in a small bowl. However, none of you that have pets are any better. A large tank or a small bowl makes no difference when your still keeping it captive. Hypocrite is a decent description for the likes of you people. PS: By "you people" I mean idiots of course.
liveonthereartire 1 year ago
@liveonthereartire i don't need to be an "activist" to know when something is really wrong. i hate when someone justify others behavior. i would be glad to keep YOU on a bowl, that would make you happy? and the right word for nodnaLtreboR is not "inhuman". you both are ignorant, when is well known that a bowl is not their natural enviroment to live to any fish or animal.
itsmackita 1 year ago
@liveonthereartire yea not to mention its a round bowl which is distorting the image of the fish, its probably bout half the size it looks. i mean i kept my betta in a 3 gal heated and filtered tank, but that was after months of keeping him in a bowl the size of two fists. ironically he didnt have any problems till that tank, he died after like 2 months in the tank. weird.
