sounds like their having trouble with the mixer cause the volume levels aren't balanced and the synth is gone. most of what goes on in a concert is behind the scenes. sometimes natural echoes can cause slap back and that can fuck up the timing. lots of things can go wrong at a live concert.

I caught this on t.v. and had to show jthis to my mate who is beside me. I said seeing was believing!!! A great that has been reduced to a steaming pile of dog shit by its own writer!!! Truely the worst performance of any group I have ever witnessed! cat weasle screamed through it (out off tune at the end) George of the jungle on drums at the start, and W.T.F. was coming out of the guitar?? whince enducing embarrassment !! I have heard two piece wedding bands make this song sound better! PLEASE!

yes it's a great song. I was in the audience, it was not in 2005 but 2004. they opened the show, then Status Quo performed and finally Deep Purple ! It was awesome, what a night ! Cheap Trick rocks !!!

Well, i love the original version, it develops some much power into the song. I can't help feel a little disappointed about how the voice sounds live, but it is also true it cannot be the same 20 years later. Also the general sound, was it supposed to be like this? Maybe because they where performing in a jazz festival, but it shouldn't sound so, how can I put it?, so "acoustic" ...

I'm thinking it was just an off night. Bands do have those from time to time no matter how long they have been doing it. I saw these guys live back in '96 and their performance the whole night was 10 times better than this. Robin looks very tired. Jet lag maybe?

AWESOME!!! I've never heard such a brilliantly clear sounding version of "The Flame"! It's such a great song to hear live, altho it's usually a bit distorted thanx to those huge arena amps....not to mention all of us Trixsters who just HAVE to sing along (guilty!). it could be any number of reasons, for instance, this song allways comes deep into the set, or even simply just a bad night. Regardless, robin will allways be one of the great voices in rock music. its just sad that this particular night they were being taped for a video. try the "silver" cd/dvd for a much better(i think the best) version of this classic
