When I saw the English dub in theaters, I was all ready to hear this version of the song because it's so amazing. When they started singing that pile of trash Disney made, I literally ran out of the theater because I didn't want to hear them ruin a good song.

I thought the English translation of this song was okay, until it mutated into that Jonas Brothers remix.

Is it just me, or is the Disney sub inaccurate? I'm mainly referring to the scene where Sosuke and Lisa signal Koichi. I know what "baka" means, and it isn't "bug off." Lisa was even spelling out "B-A-K-A" and the subtitles said she was spelling "B-U-G-O-F-F" instead. They allowed the world "damn" in the Howl's Moving Castle sub, but not "idiot" in Ponyo's?

Yea I know. And they messed up the scene when Lisa is going to the seniors centre. There is a heart to heart moment in the Japanese one and in the English one she pretty well just walks out.

I also hate how when Koichi doesn't come home for dinner, Lisa just says "Let's get out of here" in the dub. It makes it seem like she plans for Sosuke and her to just abandon the house. She should have just said they were going out to eat like in the Japanese version.

@LotusoftheLeaf i think its because they where kind of lazy on the subing as many of the ghiblis have 2 subs 1 for english hard of hearing which goes with the english dub word for word even if it's incorectly translated and the 2nd sub is more of a literal translation of the japanese audio but for ponyo they only made 1 set of subtitles so they had to make it make sense for both versions. if they tried harder to make the dub more of a literal translation there wouldnt be that problem i guess

I would just sugest changing saka na to sakana because sakana is a full word (it means fish). ^_^ By the way, sakan no ko means a child fish, or little fish (ko is used to children, as in onna no ko, that is a girl, and otoko no ko, for boy - otoko means men and onna means women)
