Let me know if you want to box for box ^_^ I'm a youtube partner now and 63rd most subscribed musician in the UK, I also have a new company backing me who want to help me grow, they represent Boyce Avenue and many others :)
Hey Marcus man all i got to say is you the man.you have always inspired me and made me a better bass player then i would have ever been.Thank you,in my book you are the best.
WHY ALWAYS the comparison to victor wooten. Victor is a phenom in his own right, no doubt, but its two different styles of playing. Which is what makes them both unique bassist. You dont have to down one to lift up the other. Just for the RECORD, marcus has recorded with some of the most renowned musical giants in the industry!!!
Can somebody tell me how Marcus keeps his fingers so tight and moves fast enough to get those tight plucks. THey are so fast and its like their back to back to back to back to back....
Ok, it might be just me, but the beginning of this song sounds sort of like the Gap Band's "Yearning For Your Love." That would be a very interesting take on that song.
I disagree with everyone who says Wooten only plays fast, not music. He took what Jaco did and took it up to a new level, listen to Reminiscence by Wooten, if that isn't music, then you don't know what music is.
bottom line is Marcus grooves like no other "period" which is what being a bass player is all about not the speedy technical skills and solos, its about how the bass player grooves in the background of the music with the rest of the instruments which is why so many bass players including well known professionals "try" and mimic is signature tone and style, Marcus may not be as fast or technical as victor wooten but Marcus is master of the groove is more a well rounded muscian and composer
The groove is so deep, locked down, and rolling with MM'S huge bass sound. Marcus Miller is the hero of deep, dense, powerful funk and jazz...and yes: the definition of cool
This guy born with music inside his soul no doubt, and now is sharing that with us. Increible. My respect also for the rest of the band theyre really amazing
Music is such a subjective thing, people are always going to have differing opinions on what, or who, is "best". But in the end it's personal preference, and that's fine. Nothing wrong with having an opinion :-)
I agree man. Victor Wooten sometimes he plays great stuff, other times it seems to me like he's just making noise lol and fans go crazy over it. I play too, and no i DO NOT hate the guy. When talking about bassists you can never leave him out. That's my compliment to him. On another note, this whole video is nice! I actually appreciate trumpets a lot more because of it. This man and his tone lol Marcus is great! Also perfect pocket playing when others have their solos in all of his videos!
c'mon man, have you been following victor with the flecktones? He's got music in his veins apart from all the technical extravaganza. Please reconsider your view on Vic!
I´m totally AMAZED by Victor´s bass skills and musical intelligence, and he´s probably the best bass player ever. But don´t find myself putting on a Victor Wooten record on my stereo :) It seems to me like he cannot play a peace of music without ending up playing wicked fast... and then it seems to me like he´s forgetting what music really is all about. Music is about soul and love... not about showing off.
well... you've got a point there, and I share the same opinion with you. Marcus' bass always sounds like its talking to you, sending a feeling right to your soul and Victor -sometimes- fails to do so...
By the way, good luck with your musical life in Norway!
@onkelbolle Both plays music.... each in different way Victor is more jazzy Marcus is more funky a and has better groove for normal people.... my opinion
@Xiuxiu1121 That comment is a reply to some dude dissing this Marcus-video like 10 months ago saying that Victor is a better bass player. So the comment is taken out of its context with the 48 likes. I respect both, but I prefear MM and I DO think that alot of Victors music sometimes becomes nothing else but a freak show.
@onkelbolle now if you had known anything about victor wooten you would know that he doesnt only play fast he also plays very slow, slower than marcus and you cant define these two bassists by who's best only by who you like the most they both play music and play it very very well but if victor only plays fast and not music i would like to see you put a video up on youtube where you play better bass than victor wooten :) gotta have action to back up dem words boy
@omega1231 I hope to say this for the last time: what I wrote is taken out of context. I responded to a comment from someone who said that Wooten was much better than Marcus ... and when I answered this, along fucking time ago. They both are great musician and great people. It is stupid that my comment is high rather without the text i was commenting on. Mkay?
@onkelbolle definately have to agree with you on that, vic had the technique hands down, but i still have yet to hear someone able to groove as strong as marcus can!
the pickup cover? it was used more in the early stages of the fender bass, primarily as a form of shielding for the electronics. some early basses also had one over the bridge pickups as well that also contained a rubber mute to deaden the sound in an attempt to replicate that of the acoustic bass.
marcus likes to rest his palm on it when he slaps but i didnt like it so i took mine off.
