What the students didn't know is that the locals told the engineers that the dam would fail if put where it was. They offered alternate sites but were overruled.
Guys you did a good job on the presentation..you brought many facts to the viewer and offered solutions to the problems behind the causes of the failure. I found it very interesting. Dont worry about the racial comments, those people probably don't understand english anyway.
@wannabef2 is it racism to ask that someone who lives in America, an English speaking country, speak English? I honestly don't think it is. If this lady wants to reach an American audience, she either needs to perfect her English, or get a translator.
@apologeticsman I'm from an english speaking country and didn't have an issue with her english...perhaps you're a little intolerant...and this is YouTube..it's global...what makes you think this video was meant to be seen by americans only??..and to call someone a 'gook' IS a racial slur..but maybe it's not in america???
@wannabef2 It's in English, and about a flood that took place in my town, so yeah, I would say she needs to brush up a little before presenting it. I never said she was a gook, I have no clue where you got that. I think people who live in America should speak English, yes, and I am in no way intolerant.
@apologeticsman never said you did...just look down a bit further to see who did....my comment was directed at those making racially based slurs...who ever said this was about u anyway..??.enough said on this subject.
The effort was fine, but I would not sit through a presentation that I had to struggle to understand. I manage a lot of chinese who it seems gave up learning english once they "thought" they could speak it. If what they have to mumble and slur is important, have them repeat it as many times as I need to glean enough verbs and nouns to grasp what it is they have to say. In this case it sounds like grunts and gurgles and nothing intelligible.
Actually I am very impressed. If this is a class project, it is well done. Also I admit to being biased. I saw its distruction first hand. I was 13 at the time.
ok, first big observation...that first map at the :40 range is of Jackson Hole WY, the Teton Dam area is on the other side of the Teton Mts to the West...

if so, she should have been more thorough in checking facts. For example: Sugar City was NOT literally wiped off of the river bank. It's not even on the river bank. Madison is a county, not a community. on and on. . . . leans a little toward propaganda in my opinion.
The data is interesting, but there is a minimum threshold of understandability in English sounds that has not been met. Better to practice on it longer before you go public.

The narrator sounds like a concentration guard. She sounds like a complete nut case. Imagine trying to have sex with someone who sounds like this bitch
I'm guessing this was made as a class assignment by Chinese born students attending an American engineering college. The detractors who've written here can't speak Chinese nearly as well as she speaks English. I can't imagine how upset I'd be if I went to school in another country & people made fun of me. I'd be especially indignant if they bragged they were the kindest on earth.
Maybe she'll someday control her country's nuclear button. How do you want her to remember her time here?
That was a ratorical question. Why is there foreigners that you cannot hardly understand talking about it? Please have it redone in plain English so we can understand. Hence "Speeky Dee English"
You have a weaker grasp of English than the participants, since you can't spell 'rhetorical' and you use phrases like 'cannot hardly,' which, incidentally, is a double-negative, canceling out and meaning you could understand her fine.
"Why is there foreigners" btw, is a clear violation of 2nd grade grammar rules...tells me your education value is far beneath that of the maker of this clip.
If you don't like it, find something else to watch.
Rhetorical? L2English before you penalize others who are trying hard to learn. Despite her accent due to her mother tongue, you could still understand her, and she can still understand you. This also means she is bi-lingual and will have twice the business opportunities as you. Have fun sweating at night when your boss decides to lay you off in this recession, or perhaps the next.
@scotty1045 And, just why did you think it was made for you? Perhaps (shocking thought) "Ugly Americans" weren't the intended audience? So...let's here your presentation on Three Gorges...in Chinese, please.
@Dom580 "there first language". . . . I love it - some nitwit criticizing others for their lack of intelligence, and doesn't know the difference between *their* and *there*. Either you're kidding, or you are the burning definition of a complete idiot.
@Dom580 And you use a comma where it is improper, and use the word "there," where the word "their" should be used. Be careful when you call others "morons."
the presentation was ok, if it had been narrated by someone without an accent, then it would of been better to understand. Also it would of made it more pleasent to watch.
Great insight into the matter. The only thing that bothers me is a way too fast slideshow towards the end of the clip - wasn't able to read a thing. Otherwise, it's good stuff!
keep in mind we americans can't speak english as it is.And obviously the rest can't read so when someone trys to speak real english we don't understand plus were all a bunch of ignorant raceist assholes anyway .i understood it. it was informative and more interesting than the bullshit entertainment half the idiots put on here .
