He is the lead in this scene and he is singing and dancing and tumbling similar to the musical movie starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and the famous cut-up and dancer, Donald O'Connor who did this scene, "Make 'em Laugh" from the movie, "Singin' in the Rain". David Cook was a senior at the time and this was their high school musical. The Examiner newspaper from Blue Springs was generous enough to publish this on you tube for everybody.
