The brass part in this piece is FANTASTIC. I mean, the whole piece is, but it's really hard to beat that brass part out. It's tied for my favorite brass section of all time.
Voila! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.
damn..every vid of the 1812 overture is littered with these cheap V comments.. i know it is a great movie but please, you do not have to ruin every comment section with V phrases or something..
@AgentXRifle it means every 200 years russians are kicking their enemies out of Moscow. 1612 - polaks, 1812 - french, 2012 - who will be this time? Wait and see :)
0:00 - 0:52 the rising of the Internet and the highest achievement in the storage of human knowledge.
0:53 - 1:38 the arrival of irrational laws and the "dead" of MU

3:05 - 4:11 EPIC BATTLE :D, goverment sites are the first in fall, they responses with MASSIVE arrests, people responds with a GLOBAL REVOLUTION, the capitalism is banned from the Internet, VICTORY.
@eataface37 This is not about the War of 1812, this is about the French invasion of Russia in the Napoleonic war. The War of 1812 was a war between Britain and the United States, not the much more monumentous events that this song enshrines.
@EmperorHarold Yeah, and as an American with a History degree, I can say with certainty that 1812 was not one of our... proudest moments (i.e. we got our asses kicked). The battle that this piece commemorates is much more inspiring, as Russia was outnumbered, outgunned, and won by a combination of cunning and sheer refusal to back down.
@dorkandproudofit Well, both sides made no real gains, but yes, the War of 1812 was a bit of a nuisance compared with the threat of Napoleon, had to make sure the guy who said 'GO WAR OF 1812' was corrected.

en un principio las obras de tchaikovsky no eran vista con muy buenos ojos por compositores occidentales, pero con en tiempo se dieron cuenta que son verdaderas obras de arte!
The international anthem for anything you want to destroy in an explosion, hail of bullets, explosions, generally epic destruction on a massive scale....I'm forgetting something?....thats right! and explosions.
@CanadianPolybius I didn't like the film one bit so I'm pretty sure I'd dislike the comic.. as I said, I associate this song with the Russian defeat of the French in 1812, which is far more important than a little comic book
Ah, whilst your dislike of the film version is fine, judging the original work by how another mind has adapted it is somewhat foolish. The graphic novel differs quite a bit from the film, espeicially thematically; The graphic being less about a freedom-fighter against an oppressive right-wing regime, moreso about the conflict between Anarchism and Fascism. Both works are legitimate in their own right, though it would be unfair to judge one based off the other.
@CanadianPolybius It's more to to do with the fact that its a song about the Russian's epic triumph in war with Napoleon and that image has been perverted as you can see by all the comments being about V for Vendetta.. that's what my initial point was. Don't really give a damn about if the comic it was based on is good or not, as I don't read comic books

This song was written to commemorate the Russian defense of their capitol, Moscow, from the invading French forces of Napoleon I. I think this is one of the greatest compositions by Tchaikovsky, and everyone should just stop bringing up every stupid movie that this song has been in and just enjoy the music. It was meant to commemorate, not to entertain.
@Mr101Wizard101 but tchaikovsky himself didnt liked... in the other hand i think that speak very well of him xd... dont like your own masterpiece, you have to be a huge sob, in the good way of course.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed V for Vendetta but I'm fed up with everyone associating the 5th of November with this. The song was written to commemorate the Russian defense of Moscow against the invading forces of Napoleon.

@0OoFACUoO0 I would be much obliged if you or anyone else could comment on the specifications of this particular version (record date, orchestra/group, etc)
I am currently watching the finale of V for Vendetta while simultaneously listening to this. It's like Surround Sound Ultra +. God, I want to blow something up...
Oh, and America only had 190,000 soldiers in 1939, and would have been crushed as fast as Poland up against the Germans. Preparation, the Atlantic Ocean and the Russians made the USA's job a lot easier than it would have been. Look up 'Ten Things Every American Student Should Know About Our Army in World War II' in google.
Learn the facts, especially about your own country before you bash on others.
@watchingvids101 i'm not sure what you're responding to but you made more then one excellent point there...and i AM an American. unlike far too many of my brethren I DO know my history.
@watchingvids101 190,000 troops would have definately held off Germany far better, and longer than the Polish. They went into battle on horse and chariot for god sake. Hitler's Germany and the SS did NOT have it easy in the beginning, the SS lost many battles at the start of the war. The US wasn't ready for war either remember. the facts we see today about what Hitler/SS caused was NOT fact then, and Rosevelt couldn't justify sending the US into another war with Germany until Pearl Harbor
Why do so many people think that the French ran away from the Germans in WWII? Did you guys know that the French actually tried to fight the Germans
(look up the Maginot Line) and the Germans only succeeded because they found a way through the Black Forest into France. The British were as equally unprepared as the French. Neither wanted another war and so were not ready for one. If not for the British Channel, Britain would have been conquered too. Both countries also had bad politicians.
@watchingvids101 You must be kidding me. The French were not ready? BULLSHIT! They watched Germany take over most of Europe before they got to France. The French in all there "military know-how" decided to form a single, massive long line of defense, and what happened? A part of the line broke, then the rest is "history" as we say. Worst defense of a country I have ever seen in my life.
Well, if you can imagine the size of Nelson's Column, which is roughly three times the size of a London bus, then Tchaikovsky was much smaller. His head was about the same size as that of an extremely large dog, that is to say, two very small dogs, or four very large hamsters, or one medium-size rabbit if you count the whole of the body and not just the head.
Such an amazing composer, hands down my favorite. Eveything within his works is so intricate and detailed. Ridiculously talented.

Worst defense of a country I have ever seen in my life.

as much as I like this. I hate how the 1812 overture is like 3 hours long, but the only good part is the last 90 seconds

(from Monty Python)
Well, if you can imagine the size of Nelson's Column, which is roughly three times the size of a London bus, then Tchaikovsky was much smaller. His head was about the same size as that of an extremely large dog, that is to say, two very small dogs, or four very large hamsters, or one medium-size rabbit if you count the whole of the body and not just the head.
