No me parece q la combinacion de las dos voces sea ideal...ME gusta mucho mas la version de JDF/Domingo, la voz de Domingo es mas suave y controlada. Aunque Villazon no hizo tan mal con la fioritura...

Vaya dueto, debieron cantar O soave fanciulla, oir a florez es casi como oir a farinelli, muy femenino para ser hombre y muy masculino para ser mujer. Eso no quiere decir que no cante bien,, pero muy agudo y sin peso. Ramón Vargas, quien también es ligero, sí parece hombrecito.

No que va, este dueto no es justo, la tecnica de Flores es superior, y en este repertorio, Villazón no debe de meterse si canta Flores, mejor hubiera cantado algún puccini o Manon.

Vicino al sole di Flores anche il pianeta di Villazon riluce, un pò meno nasale. Si vede che accanto a chi sa cantare, si può imparare qualcosa. Juan Diego Flores è sempre un gigante.

Rolando ya esta muy beneficiado por ser mexicano y porque algo de su timbre se asemeja algo a Domingo. Sin embargo la voz d Villazon es mas gruesa que la de Domingo no estando tan laro si ya deja de ser tenor y comienza como baritono
Yo tambien creo que le convendria pasar a baritono. es muy peligroso que siga intentando llegar al do (o al si bemol). Podria ser un excelente baritono, mas seguro de si mismo. El mismo Domingo ya esta tomando partes de baritono.

En realidad es mas peligroso que cante un repertorio de barítono siendo tenor, y los agudos le cuestan porque tiene deficiencias técnicas, no porque no sea tenor.

Villazon has surprisingly good coloraturas for his heavier voice. He would be a very good Rossini Otello if he had the high notes needed for this duet.
estoy de acuerdo en que vengan a méxico, sin embargo Flórez no es el nuevo Pavarotti, lo podrá haber llamado sus sucesor, pero JDF es ligero, una tesitura menos amplia que Pavarotti, pero indiscutiblemente es el mejor belcantista del momento y sus agudos son sorprendentes. El mejor diría yo. Villazón no es rossiniano, sin embargo desempeña un papel aceptable. La mejor interpretación de este dueto es la de Blake y Merrit!! es excelente!! saludos
JDF is what the Italians call a "tenore leggero" the highest and most agile type of tenor and naturally plays on his turf singing Rossini, whose tenor roles are regularly high, more often than not... Rollando, on the other side is a "tenore dramatico" a darker, heavier voice with baritone quality, whose tessitura is DEFINATELY NOT Rossini, at least 99%. I think Rollando really had balls 2 attempt that duetto on stage, even if Otello is the lowest of both roles
you're right, but at the age Rossini, bellini, donizetti.......even the type of big sound , they still have to know how to sing vey technical thing, sure we can not compare the voice, but we can compare the vocal technique~~~
I'm agree with you about Florez... but I think Villazon's voice is not horrible... but the "not good" technique doesn't allow him to show it! This combination sounds pretty interesting though!

I understand that this comes at a time in both of their careers when they are being almost overbooked with so many performances...I also was performing in Germany when Florez was at Dresden before this performance, but there is quite a lot of ducking notes in this. Rossini has D's written in these cadenzas and for villazon I can understand it but florez should have delivered.
De acuerdo son dos voces muy diferentes, florez mas agil, mas fiorituras y obviamente voz mas delgada y aguda, Rolado una voz mas obscura, hecha para papeles diferentes, voces diferentes.Florez es una voz sumamente delgada, adecuada para papeles ligeros.Sin comparacion, ambos grandes tenores.
Pues cuidate la voz nadamas cuidado con los agudos porque son engañosos yo soy barítono y asi yo tmb cante un tiempo sin ninguna técnica y pues tuve algunos problemas gracias a Dios lossolucione rapido.Suerte!!!
I don't have the score in my hand, but my guess is that Villazon might have dodged a few high Cs. It's not as if he drastically simplified his lines. In the grand scheme of things, however, was his performance bad? On the contrary. Villazon sings coloratura better than many so-called Rossini tenors. Besides, he did throw in one high C when he sang "alarmi."
I think we need a new OTELLO recording, with Villazon as Otello. He has the vocal weight for the role and would be more willing, perhaps, to attempt high notes because of the safety of the recording studio. Florez would make a great Rodrigo, but I'd want Lawrence Brownlee, who, in my opinion, is just as good as Florez, on the recording too. Brownlee has a more solid bottom than Florez and can sing high notes just as well. His voice is also warmer. Maybe Brownlee should be the Otello LOL.
Villazon got big big eyes when listening to Florez grimping easily into the highest tenors' sky... and he knew... in a few seconds it will be his turn!

disculpen no tienen mas videos sobre este recital. esto es exquisito es un suceso sin igual. se hubiera podido comparar si en 1985 el maestro placido y don Pavarotti los hubieran unido `para hacer un recital y mas aún cantar a dueto. la pequeña gran diferencia es que villazon y juan diego se profesan un respeto y admiracion mutua ademas de ser amigos.

I also see sound of early Domingo in Villazon's voice ,maybe because he is his protoge ,but I only hear and see a weak person;usually tenors gain some weight as they grow old which sometimes can help the voice to mature.If Villazon wants to last and be remembered he has to take very good care of himself first and not to rush things.
Wow, I think that lack only the third tenor, ¿no?.. Personally when listen this voices, I remember when Pavarotti and Domingo sings together. It is my very personal comment, because some do not like Villazón. Juan Diego is great!
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!! I saw JDF and Gregory Kunde do this in Otello in Pesaro last year, and I was just thinking last night, when listening to the Florez/Domingo version on the latest JDF cd, how cool it would be to hear JDF and Villazon do this!!! It's from Rossini's Otello and the aria is called "Ah Vieni". It is featured in Juan Diego Florez's latest CD, called "Bel Canto Spectacular".

I also see sound of early Domingo in Villazon's voice ,maybe because he is his protoge ,but I only hear and see a weak person;usually tenors gain some weight as they grow old which sometimes can help the voice to mature.If Villazon wants to last and be remembered he has to take very good care of himself first and not to rush things.

Wow, I think that lack only the third tenor, ¿no?.. Personally when listen this voices, I remember when Pavarotti and Domingo sings together. It is my very personal comment, because some do not like Villazón. Juan Diego is great!

Perhaps Ramon Vargas or Jonas Kaufmann could be the 3rd tenor. NOT Alagna!!!!!

WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!! I saw JDF and Gregory Kunde do this in Otello in Pesaro last year, and I was just thinking last night, when listening to the Florez/Domingo version on the latest JDF cd, how cool it would be to hear JDF and Villazon do this!!! I thought Villazon could have been a bit more virtuosic though, like Kunde or Merritt have been as Otello

JDF also leaves out the top D from this one. In the Carreras recording he sings it too.

It's from Rossini's Otello and the aria is called "Ah Vieni". It is featured in Juan Diego Florez's latest CD, called "Bel Canto Spectacular".
I was at the concert last night, and it truly was "spectacular". Shame it was not broadcast on TV, as this video is unfortunately of poor quality... thanks for posting though.

There's a great recording of this on Philips with the young Jose Carreras and Frederica von Stade. Carreras is SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!!
