Read again my comment i said that the movie also has some exaggeration about things that has happened in the real story of Billy Hayes. To end this generaly speaking, i have to say that history is written differrently from every country according to what they want us to know about it. Every single thing that happens has a reaction.

God damn this movie and its supporters! This movie is filled with lies, whichs intension is to humiliate good Turkish people with some lies. First of all, our police force is never cruel to people like in the movie(especially to foreigners, and especially to americans). secondly there aren't any soldiers visible in our airports, there are normal police officers . seaching is done only at the boarding gates and main entrance. and torture happens in all world prisons. not only in Turkey.

I disagree with you , i think that back then the situation in Turkey's lawstracture and culture was like that and worse..don't misunderstand me i'm just saying that Midnight Express has a lot of truth however and some exaggeration.

My real problem is this: there were no good Turks in the movie. But real Billy Hayes said "I have had many good Turkish friends there. Even in the prison. " and he also said "only hamidu(the one he killed in the movie, in real life he was killed by an old Turkish prisoner in a cafe shop) was a psycho person, the other guards were nice to me." psycho guards are all over the world, look at USA.

At 1970s there was a military junta in Greece. The junta has evacuated villages near Turkish border and began to say "we are in istanbul in 3 days". Then they started killing Turks in Cyprus, and Turkey responded with military operation. USA was against this operation, and even thought of attacking Turkey. They made this movie to make people hate Turkey, so noone will be against invasion of Turkey by USA. Thats why Turks were portrayed really bad in this movie.

I am not calling the movie as a lie. Many things are of course true, and also the torture scenes can be true(at that time there was excessive torture in our prisons, but it was made to communists and kurdish terrorists, not americans.) But at one part of the movie hayes said "you are a nation of pigs etc..." this made me really angry, and I want to sue this movie because of it.

he also said "In Turkey homosexuality is a big crime, but they do it whenever they find the chance" Man you are in prison! All around the world there is excessive homosexuality in prisons. Also homosexuality was never a crime in modern Turkey. It is considered bad by the people(like anywhere else), but it is not "a crime" according to laws. Also he said "attacking above the ass is considered as an attempt to murder, so everybody stab eachothers ass" this is wrong. it is also against law.

And we took many of our laws from european coutries like swiss, also the "attacking above the ass " thing was taken from swiss. Even if someone is trying to kill you and you are defending yourself with a handgun, YOU MUST SHOOT below the ass, at the legs. If not, and the person dies, you are guilty. and look at USA, you can kill anyone that enters your house. In turkey, you have right to shoot only if he has a weapon, and you are allowed to shoot only below the ass. which is more humanitarian?
