I have the 2007 3.0d msport and it is a brilliant car. 500nm torque 0-60 in 7.2 and handles so well on the road. Off-road not great but hey i dont drive round in fields all day.
The facelift had better interior materials and external bodywork tweaks.
Fair enough that car in the video looks cr*p (pre facelift model).
These days second hand x3s are such good value for money its unbelievable compared o say a Q5 or a6 estate.
I also average 35 mpg in the town. not bad for a big motor.
i hve the new 2011 x3 much bigger engine better styling and it has a new 3.5si twin turbocharged engine and can get to 161mph if you give it everything. My friend has a 2008 model and to be honest its not to bad it has a 3.0si turbocharged engine styling isnt to bad either its just cuzz jeremy bought the non turbocharged model because my friends x3 jst flies over big steep sand dunes
@ahmed09071 The 3.0si is a engine that is not turbo. The si version uses the N52 engine instead of the 2.5L or 3.0L M54. In the US the non-sport edition is electronic governor is set at 130MPH, while the sport edition is 155 MPH. DOT regulations.

I own a 2005 BMW X3, and I'd have to say I disagree. The ride is actually very smooth in my opinion. And I also would have to say it looks beautiful. It's obviously not an off-road car, but is still fun on wet, back road couses, not hilly ones.

Ya i know this car is just terrible. In the new 2011 35i, the engine is so much better though,good quality engine. Think it does 0-60 in like 5.7 seconds which is good for an suv with 300hp and 300lbs/feet. And ya the build quality is better but honestly they need to take a page out of Audi's playbook for interior. BMW needs to add a lot more wood to make this interior better in the 2011 X3

@Kokosiak1 except ... for the fact that it can handle 90% of what a normal driver would throw at it when it comes to leaving the road...(not everybody finds it amzuing to go rock climbing lol) and you dont have to crouch to get inside it, and its more spacious, and you sit higher than in a regular station wagon , and its safer in case of a crash... and its more economical than a true 4*4 ( lets say a Range Rover)

While it is not the best offroader, compared to my previous ML320, it is decent in snow (granted if you dont have summer tires on..), small enough for city parking, and enough space to tote 5 people around. Luggage space is not great, but decent. I guess it is all dependent on lifestyle. The gas mileage is not bad either, averages about 21 MPG. I wanted something smaller, that sits higher than a sedan.
this is so to say 'budget urban SUV' with half the motor size, half the fuel expenditure and obviously half the price of Range Rover. There should be a difference, too obvious...

This car is nothing about off road car. I had 2 Mitsubishi pajero in the past 2.8 and 3.2 diesel engined. They were beter in off road, but over all, the bmw I own now ( 3.0 sd ) is a far more likely car. And this is because I use the car 80% on road, 10% in the snow ( with snow tyres ) and 10 % on bed roads.

Actualy, the facelift of this model ( after 2007 ) is a very good car. I have a 3.0 sd model with SKN chiptuning. On the road is very fast ( faster than a Cayenne GTS ). On bed roads it can handle ( is not an off road car, but is better then a saloon ). In winter, on slipery roads is perfect with proper tyres. The styling is better on the facelift. There is an improvement on the suspension too. Is not that bumpy like is described even with sport suspension and 18 inch rims

I don't think the X3 is really designed to cope with that sort of offroading, although it did seem to manage most of it ok, but Jeremy Clarkson bellied it a couple of times.

Now I really hate this ugly piece of metal! And I really do not think that this is a good off-roader.
But you simply cannot compare an X3 with road tires on with a "true" off-roader with according tires. With offroad tires the X3 would have performed much better.
The lacking ground clearance cannot be undone by that of course :-)

the x3 aint off roader , not that nice to look at too, i had a go in one though it was really nice to drive feels safe , ive had a 318ci id pick an x3 over that......better family car, yeah but if iwas guna go of road a defender is the boss of the muddy mountains

This car is nothing about off road car. I had 2 Mitsubishi pajero in the past 2.8 and 3.2 diesel engined. They were beter in off road, but over all, the bmw I own now ( 3.0 sd ) is a far more likely car. And this is because I use the car 80% on road, 10% in the snow ( with snow tyres ) and 10 % on bed roads.

Actualy, the facelift of this model ( after 2007 ) is a very good car. I have a 3.0 sd model with SKN chiptuning. On the road is very fast ( faster than a Cayenne GTS ). On bed roads it can handle ( is not an off road car, but is better then a saloon ). In winter, on slipery roads is perfect with proper tyres. The styling is better on the facelift. There is an improvement on the suspension too. Is not that bumpy like is described even with sport suspension and 18 inch rims

@ninjafatballz The 1st gen X3 (2004-2010) was designed by BMW and Magna Styer and were built in Graz, Austria. the 2nd Gen X3 (2010-current) are being built in the BMW plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Although the BMW plant in South Carolina is the only factory to produce the X5, X6 and more recently the X3, they no longer produce the Z4, as for the production of the now 2nd Gen Z4 (2008-current) are being produced in the BMW plant in Regensburg, Germany.

@vasco10506 yes that's true. It depens where you live too. But check in the snow if you live in a country where is a lot of snow in the winter you'll see who wins.. X3, X6 not. It responds the same like any other car in the snow

I don't think the X3 is really designed to cope with that sort of offroading, although it did seem to manage most of it ok, but Jeremy Clarkson bellied it a couple of times.
