Yeah... "Hey Dick Head - Good one for leaving the crank handle on the running shaft - too fucking bad it didn't fall into the flywheel spokes and smash your stupid head in"..
Please do not ever make the same mistake of putting the crank when the engine is already running, even I know because my dad showed me how to start these engines in any case are a precious machines atte Yasna.-

Many brilliant European inventors with good will have been murdered and their projects hijacked by the Illuminati. Edison could never match Tesla, who took Teslas credit for himself. (HAARP).
Another Tip:: DO-NOT hold crank the way you did after engine is running!! Matter of fact is take it off shaft upon starting. If the handle would have caught shaft while running then you can kiss your arm, wrist and hand BYE,BYE! ...........Be careful out there............
Indeed, I second that. I almost broke my arm once, with handstarting a single cilinder yanmar YSE12 - little engine, but in such cases, damn huge amount of power!
Almost broke my entire arm starting a 3hp John Deere engine. The engine was mounted on a cart with steel I-Beams. The engine started, and the handle caught my arm, and whacked it against the steel I beam, HARD! Be Careful, if anyone out there doesn't know how to start these properly, ask for help!
Well, when you try an start it, if it is a larger hit and miss engine, you'd press the valve rocker arm so there is no compression, keep the valve held while you crank the handle(don't wrap your thumb around the handle) and crank it up fast. When you feel you have maxed out the speed, release your grip from the handle and then the rocker arm, the engine should start up. Watch this Video:
How to start a lister L
~Ted
P.S. If you can't find the vid, it's the one with the unrestored lister diesel.
This is a Czech engine, branded as SLAVIA, but is not an exact clone of the Lister CS. In those days such stationery engines were either horizontal or vertical. This one is a 15 HP. The slavia has smaller types too.The CS stands for 'cold start'.Slavia is also a cold start engine. Give your e-mail,I will send you the pics for the ListerCS and the smaller Slavia..Pasdunyasi

Congratulations on a super restoration job. Just be careful cranking it over, and remove handle once it picks up.

this is a slavia diesel right? nice engine. looks hard to start
angamoos 4 years ago
Yes, quite hard..since you need to revv the double heavy flywheels to a certain speed. To light its wick during the winter time also helps.

A Czech clone of the famous Lister CS, which is still made to this day in India. I believe this is a 6hp model.
