They make a good point. What happened with Cassie would be a good reason to hate Daniel....IF it had been his fault, which it wasn't. The Newmans, who were affected by it the most, forgave Daniel. But Neil and Dru still treat him the same. And come on Dru, it's not like you did stupid or irrational things when you were Lily's age.

Some PI's figured it all out. While on the run, Daniel had a dream that he was in the backseat of his convertible and saw Cassie driving and realized that's what she was trying to tell him when she left the hospital to find him. They examined the clothes Cassie wore that night and Daniel's car and found a piece of a heel wedged under the accelerator that fit on to one of Cassie's shoes, PERFECTLY. It did explain why Cassie was in the car, because she'd never ask a drunk driver for a ride.

Cassie also whispered to Nick just before she slipped away,"Don't blame Daniel. It wasn't his fault, it was me." Nick never really thought about it because he was too busy grieving and being mad at Daniel, but later he figured that maybe Cassie was driving, but he didn't want to believe it. It became such a huge weight on his consicounse that he couldn't hide it anymore and turned over Cassie's clothes for examination.
