  • Mark, if I'm loading the brush from a soap, does the same advice apply to that as well, or is it just applicable to the lather-building stage on the face?

  • @w0033944 yes, the same advice can apply to soap.

  • @mantic59 Thanks Mark - what I really meant was, if I'm face-lathering a soap, I see that this advice applies to the face-lathering process itself, but does it also apply to loading the brush from the puck, i.e., should the breach remain closed then as well?

  • @w0033944 yes, the hair of the brush should spread out just a bit but don't mash it all the way down.

  • @mantic59 Thanks Mark. I notice you haven't posted on The Shaving Room since we changed web hosts.

  • I have a little cheap boar hair brush and I used a cream to shave, and here and there I get a decent first lather and then very very thin passes after that. I'm pretty sure it's from the quality of the brush, and I find I can usually only get a good shave from using more soap and slowly working my way into a thick lather. I'm hoping to find a better brush to get better, more consistent shaves. :/

  • Thanks again for a great video. One question - I notice in this video, and also in the one where you review the new Coates shaving cream, you seem to press quite hard on the brush - the bristles are all splayed out. Does this not open up the breech and lead to runny lather? One interesting additional point: my new Simpson brush came with a note that said not to press hard on the brush...

  • @alexeitsarevitch this vid I did it on purpose to show you what would happen, the coates vid I did it by accident because I was so excited to try it!

  • Cue stripper music @1:25

  • I never had a father to teach to shave, thanks mantic and thanks youtube lol

  • mantic for president

  • Great work Mantic. I learned something new.

  • @AwedBoy stay tuned! I will be discussing slant razors in an up-coming video!

  • i,myself have been suffering with runny lather lately and always thought i was accidently adding a little too much water when preparing my lather. Im gonna try less lather and use light pressure on my brush.

  • You ruined my life!!

I used to use my trusty old Mach 3 and some canned goo. Oh i was so happy. Then I stumbled upon some of your videos, bought a cream/brush/safety razor, joined a couple of forums, and 6 months later, it's become a blooming obsession!!

    Thanks! :)

All seriousness dude, without your videos many would never have tried out wet shaving, so big thumbs up!! Keep up the good work.

  • Mantic how do you know all of these things. I never paid attention to pressure in building lather and lathering my face before. Now I get really sweet suds.

  • Great vid mantic!! You should do product reviews

  • Oh, the breech of the brush? You mean the middle. Those method shaving terms are ridiculous.

  • @kherux actually the term "breech" has come into common usage now, you'll see it in the wetshaving forums all the time

  • Excellent my friend.

  • This is great! I was just going to ask you this today lol. I fixed it when I shaved an hour ago, and man, the result is totally different. Thanks mantic!
