And Air France is a great airline for all those haters. I hope that this year they have a greater profit and not a large strike this year. 5/5 great video!!
are you sure the runway was bumpy or is that just the noise that planes make when they land. The camera was jumping allot but maybe its because of the camera man??

Lets not exagerate have seem lighter landings before where planes are almost stationary in the air and planes landing in St Maarten do not come in that light so the term very very light is somewhat misconstrued.
Very short is not the term the runway is with the average in the region, ofcourse bi cities like NY, LAX, Paris and London would have way longer runways
I love fly with Airbus A340 in my Flight Simulator X... This GPWS sound is so funny and the Airbuses has the most beaultiful cockpit(it's what i think). So, great video, i loved it. 5/5
I've landed here over 30 times in my 777 and Mustang, each approach the place looks more beautiful. May want to check the gear after this slam down, pilot flared a bit too early and paid the price, lucky the gear didn't blow.
i love this video! Air France is the bomb! everyone in st maarten always line up by the beach to watch air france land! Even the tourist enjoy seeing air france land!
Every time I watch a video like this it makes me wish that I could trade places with one of those pilots. What a life and what an incredible view of the world that they get to experience.

If Sooksawaspakdee9 is though on his/her comments probably is because he/she had a very bad experience flying Air France. So, let's be civilized and enjoy the video.
Being in the cockpit takes the romance/fun out of flying. It makes ya feel that it's just a metal machine that gets ya up in the air and crosses distenses pretty fast. I guess the least ones who truly enjoy flying are commercial pilots.

@jeddawie you have never been in an airline cockpit you should check a very nice video about flying an airliner. Search in youtube "fly4fun Frank's Retirement Flight in HD" And enjoy... You'll see that they love flying.
Am not talking from a pilots point of view, am talking about how they treat the passengers/customers which is like shit. I fly Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways bu the way arncell.

Yes I also saw that. But somehow it doesnt make sense, that they changed it. I mean who cares if its 09 or 10. At what angle is the runway, as far as i know its 096?
that's false, that's not a copilot or capt's story, that means put throttles on "idle",retard the throttles, and the pf is using it,that's all...but you (all people seeing cockpit videos) just have to look,if you want, but that's exasperating to see always comment as "the pilot didn't check the checklist before T/O or he didn't said "continue" or "egpws serves to....",just see,and if you has some questions I can answer or help you,but stop chating about pilot's competences or ways please...
wooow when did st maarten runway switch from 9 to 10? :O i never knew, i dont think the airport in any way chould change the heading... chould someone give me a reason why this happend? :)
It is due to the magnetic filed ... It changes a bit every years. That is why the runway number could change. ( for example a runway heading North is called a 36 ).
Retard the throttles as in bring them back to idle, on airbus aircraft in order to go into reverse thrust the thrust levers have to be in the idle position
I've been looking so long for a A340 landing video in st.maarten, only found one of the KLM B747.
I find it very interesting how the pilot can see the runway from that far and then lands the plane exactly on the centerline... I tried this a hundred times in flight simulator, only a few times it worked and the landing wasn't half as good as this one^^ visual landings with such a great plane still fascinate me.
Well, pilots actually have the autopilot line them up for a landing like this before they take over for the visual apprach about 15 nm out.
I'm not sure if an ILS landing is possible at this airport, but at airports like Frankfurt etc. The plane can actually land itself with the ILS technique
I know that at St.Maarten ILS is not possible, they have no ILS equipment at the airport (don't know why, think I read sth. about room problems, because of the beach directly in front of the runway & the mountain on the other side).
I'm an enthusiastic flight sim pilot an already gained some experience in ILS landing^^
but nevertheless thanks, wish someone would have explained me the ILS then when I needed it. Had to teach it all myself :D
Man Shows You Know Nothing ILS ( Instrumental Landing System ) you can't just use ILS for approach its used for the full approach and landing also ur getting mixed up with approach
Ahem? Pilots use ILS until they can see the runway perfectly fine and they can turn it off, If they want they can keep it on and it will do a autoland ( depends if the runway has an autoland feature)
XD Shows You Know Nothing When They Contact ATC They Say Landing On ILS Heading If The Airport/Runway has ILS They Don't Just Turn Off On Approach They Either Land Manualy Or Land ILS Learn Boy
The second pilot need to call those calls so the pilot will know in what altitude he is when he need to look outside. When he is at 30-50 feet he needs to idle the engines and flare.
Lol it's "Hundred above" what means "100 ft before "Minimum",and "Minimum" is the time when you say "landing" or "overshoot"...And the pilots doesn't do any special things after the hundred above alert, and the captain says"landing" or "overshoot" after the minimum...(He can say landing or continue...He says that they continue the landing...
may i ask what is the climb rate of the a340-300 from 0-cruising alt? and how many nautical miles from the arrival airport does the plane start to descent? and how much is the descent rate? tnx
Yes,climb rate depend of the weight, and the nominal descend rate is 5%,with 300ft/miles at the approach (so you have to be at 12000ft when you're 40 miles far from the runway...So you calcul with the altitude you want...And the descend rate (which depends of the airport...) is generally 5%...
uhm.. yeah.. but how far from the airport do you start to descent? and how fast is te descent rate? because i have a friend who is a pilot, he told me, he would start to descent around 110nm at a descent rate of 1600ft/min..
But,it's never the same distance,it TOTALLY depends of your cruise alt, your speed, your plane, the wind,etc...But generally, the NOMINAL descend rate is 5%...so you just have to calcul, you nknow,if you're cruising at FL400,you'll not start descend as same as you were cruising at FL200...!

Salut !!
Happy landing mon chanceux!
A+

may i ask what is the climb rate of the a340-300 from 0-cruising alt? and how many nautical miles from the arrival airport does the plane start to descent? and how much is the descent rate? tnx
seaboo143 2 years ago
Yes,climb rate depend of the weight, and the nominal descend rate is 5%,with 300ft/miles at the approach (so you have to be at 12000ft when you're 40 miles far from the runway...So you calcul with the altitude you want...And the descend rate (which depends of the airport...) is generally 5%...
arncell 2 years ago
uhm.. yeah.. but how far from the airport do you start to descent? and how fast is te descent rate? because i have a friend who is a pilot, he told me, he would start to descent around 110nm at a descent rate of 1600ft/min..
seaboo143 2 years ago
But,it's never the same distance,it TOTALLY depends of your cruise alt, your speed, your plane, the wind,etc...But generally, the NOMINAL descend rate is 5%...so you just have to calcul, you nknow,if you're cruising at FL400,you'll not start descend as same as you were cruising at FL200...!
