FF IX Excalibur II Perfect Game - Part 6: Plant Brain

OK, I just completed this segment with a time of 52:49. I somehow managed to accumulate almost two minutes of lateness over the last two segments, I was at 33:13 when I hit Prima Vista, but there doesn't seem to be a way to improve the crash site or forest.

Guess I'll make up the time later on... got super lucky with the Plant Brain segment, destroyed it on first attempt!

ff9 is such a good game. i just love how everything looks and the music. i also like the fact that every character has there own unique fight style so you can actually choose specific people because you need them for a specific purpose.

I got hugely lucky, when it gave me two Plant dudes on the second try. Of course the past parts getting no encounters took about 2 hours but hey no use crying now (:

Because this challenge includes a speedrun AND a Low-Level-challenge at once (apart from getting as many treasures as possible).

Low-Level-challenge means - you can guess it - staying at Level 1 for the whole game.

it takes too much time, and you would end getting E2 in around 14 hours instead of 12

i suggest you to get the emulator and download the ntsc game, you'll do it straight easy

idk if it helps but twice when I did this part I left zidane Koed. SO maybe the chances of encountering two increases slightly when zidane's out.

AND get the iron helm from the plant brain! It is important because if Steiner doesn´t have the level up ability in the beginning, he will be weak later in the game. The same thing goes for Freya!

Yeah, you´re right. But it´s great to have the iron sword before you get to Dali if you aren´t aiming for a lvl 1 game! if you have the sword the battles are finnished very quickly, and you don´t have to reset all the time. And when i´m already leaving the lvl 1 game discussion; you should fight the spiders about five times, they give lots of exp and ap, which also makes the the battles go faster.

If you dont wanna steal the iron sword, it´s easier to steal the broadsword from the cage, and then swith weapon with blank...

It still takes longer than just buying one... it's not like Gil is scarce, even in a level one game.

I REALLY REALLY hate this. This is without a doubt my least favourite part of the perfect game challenge (though I do it without E2 due to PAL).

The reason being that the PAL version is even more unfair with handing out only 2 Plant Spiders.

If only 3 survivors works, why revive Zidane? The extra 3 experience won't cost you a level in Tantarian or the Pandemonium.

Yeah you don't have to revive him at all I guess, but it only takes like 2 seconds, plus it lowers the already small chance that they could kill Vivi before using Fire by giving them more targets.

Argh, I remember restarting countless times until I got two spiders in my Level 1 Game. Last time I played it normally, I got two spiders immediately...

3/16 seems pretty normal to me. In my experience, 3 and 4 Plant Spider formations are slightly more common than the desired 2.
