  • Oh... the dark rift, how you so creeped me out before.. and still today .___.

  • David Bowie released an instrumental in 1977 that makes me think of this. It's called Sense of Doubt- very atmospheric- look it up!

  • Counter intuitively, this has a calming effect on me...

  • God I hate this part of the game. So frustrating.

  • haha, man... i was scared out of my mind playing this level, I spent about a week trying to beat it.

    Oh? whats that?

Naw, it wasnt because the level was hard, I was just HIDIOUSLY FREAKED OUT FLYING THROUGH A DARK LABYRINTH WITH CREEPY MUSIC PLAYING....

  • Robinson disliked the video

  • @The7UPBuddy Can't blame him

  • This song is definitely good at representing the turbulent unknown at the beginning, and towards the end, it represents the silent abyss that is The Dark Rift.

  • The Dark Rift alwaysed remined me from something from the Twilight Zone. The Music helped alot too.

  • The Dark Rift scared the shit out of me. I'm sure I missed out on a lot of game content because I was just too terrified to go back in there after passing through it once.

  • I could play this area in broad daylight, and because of the music and environment I'd still get scared. That's pretty funny considering I'm a massive horror movie fan, and my house is haunted. But this place gives me shakes.

  • Thanks for the rip !! I was so sad not to find this track in the original soundtrack...

  • I watched my brother go through this area one day. I forgot completely about it until I went through it myself. I think it creeped me out so much, I blocked it out from my memory until now.

  • I wished the game went into some more detail on those black moon stones that you find in there.

  • @bluenova123 Me too! It's almost like they put them in there as material for a sequel or something, at least that's what I always thought it seemed like.

  • ._. Oh god, this part of the game. It was so completely freaked out the entire time I was trying to get through the stupid dark rift. Each time I got even a little bit close to the walls, I started to panic. But nothing will ever compare to my utter horror at having to go down into The Vortex. Simply seeing that thing for the first time freaked me out so badly that I did whatever I had to in order to not have to look at it. :(

  • Reminds me of the old Resident Evil tracks, except this one is muuuch more creepier and atmospheric.

  • Developers : ''It's perfect , perfect to creep the sht out of little 13y old kids who will play this game !''

  • First time i played dark rift was one year ago 4:30 in the morning :D creepy...

  • This song also plays in Deep Sky IIRC.

The Deep Sky is the truly creepy part of the game.Going down the Vortex...

    That sound.

    Just... that sound.

  • I hate this place. it's so disturbing.

  • Was i the only one who somehow ended up getting lost and going back out the way i came?

  • 1 person never emerged from the dark rift...

  • Its that bit in the middle that always gets me. It reminds me of the wierdest part of the dark rift. Almost like it represents the eye of the storm. Fuck it just fades in from nowhere.

  • @CBcinema1 The part with the Black Moonstones?

That IS the eye of the storm.

  • @AirshipCanon2 Yeah I know. I'm talking about in the middle of the song.

  • I dont ever recall any other game that sent chills down my spine in any part of any game like this did!

By far the most atmospheric rpg I've ever played and congrats to Sega for making such a fine piece of art that is Skies of Arcadia! :)

  • I don't think that's a trumpet solo. It sounds more like a French Horn or something similar.

  • This area bugs me. In terms of continuity anyway. When you're in your ship Vyse says its too dangerous to go outside, but when enemies appear you go outside to fight them, and you go outside to get to Robinson.

  • @dragonsword777

gameplay-story segregation. It happens in alot of games.

Robinson though, IDK, maybe the Delphinus had some armored tube or something.

  • @dragonsword777 Shhh, we don't discuss that :P

  • I love how so many people think exact what i did, this place and music make me feel so nervous all the time.

    PD: Love this game.

  • Man, this music playing during Deep Sky was spooky.

  • I was playing this at night during a thunder storm. Most creepy thing I've ever heard since melphiles's theme from sonic 06.

  • i imported this track into other RPGs that have creepy caves and dungeons and stuff.

    works every time!

  • 1:59 is what this song is all about

  • @rockmasterflex Yeah, its perfect for when you reach the eye of the Dark Rift and bask in the eerie glow of the black moonstones.

  • this place feels so lonely

  • This was a very eerie yet awesome track. The Dark Rift had a creepy atmosphere, and this music certainly reflected that. Thanks for posting this.

  • @DBarns7 it used to scare the **** outta me. kind still does O_O

  • I think they also played this track when you navigate 'Deep Sky', where you find the lost continent of Soltis. That was another dark and menacing location.

  • @DBarns7 My bad. You find Fina's ship at the bottom of Deep Sky, however, when you decend into the vortex, you can see the silhouette for the tower of Soltis.

  • That place creeped me out. all those dead, abandoned ships, with no survivors.

    -

don't get me wrong, some parts were pretty, but it was like something I once saw in a bad dream. I tihnk that I would like to actually see it in person, though. Like watching a tornado.

  • @WorldWalker128 Yeah same here. Its so eerie yet so intreguing.

  • i always hated the part of the game with the dark rift, it was neat and all but man did it give off a depressing aura

  • @clairefedfield

Most good rpgs have depressing parts in them (dark parts) that's what makes them stand out ie final fantasy 6 (2nd half), legend of zelda majoras mask (final hours), this part, ff9 when vivi finds out he only has a short time to live, the dark world in legend of zelda, a link to the past.

  • @clairefedfield Going to Esperanza for me is basically the most nerve wrecking town in the game. Not because the town itself is scary but you know that in a moments time you will have to force yourself to fly into that infamous swirling vortex.

I mean you can even see it from within the town and it still gives you the creeps.

  • I really like the trumpets solo in the middle of the song. Really adds a lot while listening in this soundtrack.

  • @The91210user Yeah the centre of this song rminds me of when I first got to the centre of the dark rift. Its like the calm eye of the storm. Somethig really eerie about it though...

  • ---SPOILER OMFG---

Didn't this song also play in the Deep Sky segment, too?

  • Yup.

I forgot how much I loved this part of the game.

  • the boss at the end of this level used to annoy the crud out of me...

  • @cosmicmenace

Yeah he was annoying. But come back to that spot near the end of the game and you can face Elecian.

  • yeah haha and he is VERY easy too. He literaly cant hurt you if you fight him right.

    Vyse --- Skull Shield

    Aika --- Delta Shield

    Gilder --- Aura of Denial

then you can have Fina focus until you can use Prophecy or something and I promise he will never hurt you. You could fight him all day and not get a scratch and no status problems. I love it

  • @cosmicmenace

Exactly. After facing The Aglar boss its nice to face a more easier one in the same place, bit ironic.

Thats almost the exact same strategy I use! lol

  • I could really use a midi of the actual instrumented part of this song. You know, the part where it stops being regular creepy, and turns into plain beautiful music, which only makes it more creepy.

  • cuz i need the sheet music

  • It wasn't so hard to find the end of the dark rift, but it took me FOREVER to fing Robinson.

  • The pitch black... the smashed ships... the strange creatures that have never seen the sun.... this has to be the most atmospheric and evocative dungeon and music in any RPG.

  • The Dark Rift is probably one of the most memorable dungeons of all time.

  • @stonedsquirrel

Better not forget the small islands that appear to breathe...

  • The Dark Rift was scary as hell. I had seriously never been more nervous about any dungeon in an RPG

  • Wow.. It reminds me playing my friends dreamcast xD. Why'd you put OST if it isn't the original soundtrack :O? 5/5

  • I think it's because not all songs from a game get a spot on the original soundtrack. HaloTrilogyGOD was just adding in the tracks that were passed over. Rightfully so, I might add, as this song is awesome.

  • How can such a awesome RPG with innocent lookin characters have such a damn creepy soundtrack? Now that is badass

  • This was one of my favorite songs in the game, especailly the second half of it. It was a really creapy part of the game.

  • Very creepy indeed. Especially round the middle, reminds me of when you reach the centre of the Dark Rift.

  • black moon stones... how mysterious...

  • I remember playing this at midnight halloween with my freinds. They pissed their pants when they heard it.

  • Haha xD. I remember when they first told me I had to go in the Dark Rift I was scared... And had to go wander around in other places a bit and gather my courage xD.

  • this music was a bit creepy if you were playing at night in a basement xD

  • Oh yeah, I played this at night and it was creepy, you are absolutely right =D

Good memories from many years ago.

  • is this ramiraz fight?

  • no it's the music that plays when your in the dark rift and deep sky

  • @HaloTrilogyGOD If you have PS3, the Sega Company is going to re-release their games onto the PSN. First three games I'm getting, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and Skies of Arcadia.

  • @darknessbobe maybe so. but its fine playing in the day time outside of a basement.

  • @darknessbobe

Are you kidding me? I was in the attic at around midnight or 4am playing this and tried my best not to run towards the window and jump.
