Yes, there really is a whirlpool there in the river. I've been there myself on vacation. It's just not a whirlpool like we all imagine. This one is big, slow-moving: it's more like a whirlpool current. There is no actual "funnel" in the center of the whirlpool like you would think.

There is a whirlpool there. You have to be there at the right time to see it properly though. I saw it briefly on my visit there. It's not just one whirlpool but many small ones surrounding a larger one if I remember rightly, and if you look long enough you see the vortex appear. It's awesome :)
