Why is everyone bashing this and comparing it to TFOT? They're sweet and have a different style, and even if the energy isn't there it s still sweet and melodic.
I understand what you guys mean about the energy, but it's pretty good. There's definitely a lot of Fall of Troy present within here. And remember that this is a demo, I think.
I can describe FoT as a portrait depicting frantic scribbles and spastic lines organized into a masterpiece. Beauty in utter chaos.
JLV can be described as a man who has painted a replica of that portrait, but without the risk taking and the emotion.
That's just the way I feel. The word used a lot is "energy", which is a good way to describe it. I support anything with Erak's name on it, but JLV simply has no energy. It's not as fun. :/

What is wrong with the drummer? He plays the right thing at the right time? The drum RECORDING is bad because it is a demo and drums are hard to record. That may be why you don't like the drum sound.. How is that the drummer's fault? Think before you say something hurtful.

I don't know about THE BEST! ..but he is definitely this guitarist with an original, talented style. This is my first encounter with Just like Vinyl and I was expecting a different style from The Fall of Troy. Maybe he had some songwriting issues with TFOT and wanted to do, strictly his own thing.. This sound is too similiar with TFOT. So the only logical reason for a name change is for new members.

@POTHPuokie The only SLIGHT exception is Animals As Leaders. Tosin Abasi was pretty much the only one writing the music, so the first album was him with some stuff added and programmed drums. Now though, I give the entire band credit, because there actually is an entire band now hahah. You're right though, when there's a band, they all deserve credit because without one element of the band, the whole thing wouldn't even work out.

@Phuckyooo well idk if you have heard the entire album, but it's quite a different sound from the fall of troy. it sounds like thomas eraks old stuff in tribune. its got that same basic guitar sound but its more rock n roll oriented. the fall of troys early stuff was very experimental, using odd time sigs and keys. this album resembles in the unlikely event if you want to compare the two bands.
@deathwish959 I have heard it, it sounds more like Manipulator to me, maybe a little less experimental. But I think thats a good thing, i can listen to it on any occasion and it still has a lot of the soothing guitar riffs that Thom somehow pulls off time after time

Please, this is nothing like TFOT, writing style is completely different, thomas is OBVIOUSLY more concerned technically with the guit then ever before, his lines are completely unique to the ideology the was the fall of troy, an awesome band, but no longer. His voice is improving, his guitar skill as well. He is moving the same direction The Mars Volta has. I don't enjoy them or Erak as much with this techniscity coming from them but i am hopeful they can harness it into sublime creation infuta
I mean it does sound SLIGHTLY different (some Guy said along the lines of groove) but it still has the guitar wankery, screams, time shifts, etc. its still very good stuff though.
@primozuado not to impede on Thomas' creativity, but JLV does sound extremely similar to TFoT, being experimental/mathcore/prog metal... So it's not really too much of a stretch to say that JLV basically is TFoT with a different name. Still good music though, no doubt about that.

even Omar didn't write everything, he would tell each individual member to *play something like this*, but even they added their personal touches to music. Bu yes i will say he probably wrote 90% of the music, but even the small changes made by each member could change a song drastically.
the guitar style is all thomas. he has a very distinct style, except for this being a little more straight forward rock than fall of troy, it's still very much thomas erak doing most of the work, the mans a fuckin genius

Andrew is an amazing drummer, but, Thomas did write all the songs, so it really is his band...but....without andrew, there would be no punch or good combined structure. I hated phantom at first, cause I was used to the originals, but it's a fucking master piece. The bass player being the least important in this band, is still necessary.

@Phuckyooo well idk if you have heard the entire album, but it's quite a different sound from the fall of troy. it sounds like thomas eraks old stuff in tribune. its got that same basic guitar sound but its more rock n roll oriented. the fall of troys early stuff was very experimental, using odd time sigs and keys. this album resembles in the unlikely event if you want to compare the two bands.

@deathwish959 I have heard it, it sounds more like Manipulator to me, maybe a little less experimental. But I think thats a good thing, i can listen to it on any occasion and it still has a lot of the soothing guitar riffs that Thom somehow pulls off time after time

Please, this is nothing like TFOT, writing style is completely different, thomas is OBVIOUSLY more concerned technically with the guit then ever before, his lines are completely unique to the ideology the was the fall of troy, an awesome band, but no longer. His voice is improving, his guitar skill as well. He is moving the same direction The Mars Volta has. I don't enjoy them or Erak as much with this techniscity coming from them but i am hopeful they can harness it into sublime creation infuta

I like it but, it sound way too similar to trot.
I mean it does sound SLIGHTLY different (some Guy said along the lines of groove) but it still has the guitar wankery, screams, time shifts, etc. its still very good stuff though.

@primozuado not to impede on Thomas' creativity, but JLV does sound extremely similar to TFoT, being experimental/mathcore/prog metal... So it's not really too much of a stretch to say that JLV basically is TFoT with a different name. Still good music though, no doubt about that.

Also, this isn't really similar to The Fall of Troy, of course the vocals and guitar will sound familiar but it's an entirely different band.

Im a big tfot fan and i guess this is okay just because it has thomas in it. I started noticing that thomas played different during in the unlikely event concerts..they just didnt play the same and thomas did some weird solos that dont have tfot sound, like in 2:53 in this song. :// RIP the fall of troy...

judging from thomas's personality i think it's pretty safe to assume that he is going to continue writing almost the whole song for any band he is in.

even Omar didn't write everything, he would tell each individual member to *play something like this*, but even they added their personal touches to music. Bu yes i will say he probably wrote 90% of the music, but even the small changes made by each member could change a song drastically.

@smokeyandcraig as far as i know they do it the same as TFOT they all collaborate. With thom has said with TFOT they all wrote parts and just kinda jammed out till they had a song. You can defiantly tell this buy all of the random progressions in the songs, i dont know if its the same for JLV but im assuming. not raging just informing. <3

@POTHPuokie Too bad we can't see this band evolve anymore, but I'm glad. You have to let things go and let it end at it's peak before it careens away from it's original message. Like Chappele's show, glad he stopped when he did. THIS NEW BAND IS GARBAGE THOUGH, fucking sad to see it turn into a 4/4 steady piece of shit. I'll end with this. I literally have no favorites. No fav color, food, person, place, game or anything, But my overall fav band, is easily the progressive and original FOT. RIP

@POTHPuokie You guys are both idiots. I've been listening to this band for almost 7 years now and I love every cd ever created by the fall of troy. Andrew is an amazing drummer, but, Thomas did write all the songs, so it really is his band...but....without andrew, there would be no punch or good combined structure. I hated phantom at first, cause I was used to the originals, but it's a fucking master piece. The bass player being the least important in this band, is still necessary.
