Samurai X is the prequel, which shows Kenshin while he was the batosai, and the reason he stops killing.

It honestly, in 4 episodes, is deeper, better, and more amazing than the entire Ruroni Kenshin series. Very much worth looking into. :)

As interesting an anime as this was, I think is became far too contrite and over-intelligent towards the end. And to this day I still agree that the way L was cheapshoted both extinguished any redeeming quality in Light and almost killed the anime entirely. It should have ended, one way or another, with them.

Adam sums up my final opinion of the "almighty" Kira quite well, I think.
