Sometimes youtube won't let you upload more than 10 minutes...that or the person who filmed this ran out of memory or something...but I agree it's a bummer since the audio and video quality is one of the best on youtube.
8-24 - That is a class break down. Where the fuck is the rest of the song? Ghost Trail is the best song on the album and the band must have played this in it's entirety on the night and the best bit was left out of this vid. What happened???
Went with my GF on a whim, saw the {SWe} after their name in the promtional stuff on The Hifi Bar website and the Floyd ,Radiohead influences and I knew this band would blow me away.
This song is magical! My brother lives in Umeå and when i visited him i saw Umedalen, the "madhouse" where Holger Nilsson was held. Is it just that think Cult of lunas music gives a feeling of autumn?
I don't want everyone to crucify me for saying this or even bringing up the subject....
...but if you dont like this album as much as the older stuff then try listening to it on acid. It could help you hear it in a new refreshing way. Thats just advice though, and I don't normally condone drug use with music. I just happened to try the combo of COL and LSD and I felt transcended.
It would also work with Godspeed You Black Emporer.
OMFG I wanted to film 'Ghost Trail' in Warsaw 3 days before this shaw but my battery fckn died at least I got Eternal Kingdom and Owlwood :) Amazing show Awsome band thanks uploader
We also got to see Eternal Kingdom and Owlwood at the Summerblast festival, together with Following Betulas, Echoes, Finland and Ghost Trail. I just wish they had played Crossing Over, it's my favorite track on "Salvation".
Best song on the album! Iv only given the album a few listens though. I was a little dissapointed they moved away from the 'somewhere along the highway' sound. I understand they are worried that theres loadsa bands sounding like that...but personally i think the new stuff is not as innovative as 'somewhere'.
Unfortunately my memory card was full, so I couldn't film that part.
But actually I'm quite glad that the video doesn't have that part as it ruins that song for me. Seriously, is there a more uncreative, less interesting ending for such a great song? I doubt it.
I love this song, I really do, but this "we play a boring riff and repeat it and go really really fast"-thing just feels.. wrong in my ears.
I think you're wrong beacuse from the very beginning of this song they are building atmosphere for that ending. They start at medium speed, then they slow down so that in the end give this blast of energy. The dynamic structure of this song is genious.
you're wrong, I think the ending fits perfectly into the song's atmosphere, furthermore that simple riff sounds much more better after listening for long more complex riffs of the song. When they coposed this song I think they got a feeling, they have to do this blasting but simplex ending, it wasn't just a extra fill.
..why make "rules" for music -no simple riffs or easy alternatives, must be complicated and difficult-
I'm not trying to make any "rules" at all. Cult Of Luna have used simple riffs in the past and will use simple riffs in the future, but that's not my point. Simple riffs can work very well in Cult Of Luna's music, "Finland" is a great example, I wouldn't consider the riffs as very complex, yet they fit and create a breathtaking atmosphere and make the song (atleast in my ears) to the best piece of music they have created. But in Ghost Trail's case I just feel disappointed by the ending.
I'm not saying it's the "right" or "wrong" ending, because - who am I to judge about a that (and really, who should/could do that?). I just think that for me, there could have been so many better ways to end the song. Hell, I think even leaving the song without the last bit would be a great end, everyone expects something to happen after the calm (but somehow thrilling) part ends and what would be more surprising then leaving the end just like that?
Cult Of Luna already proved often enough that they're able to write great fulfilling endings, once again "Finland" is the best example or just listen to the last two minutes of "Following Betulas". So, once again: I'm not saying the ending on Ghost Trail is right or wrong, it's just that in my humble opinion the ending they choose doesn't fit the songs atmosphere. It's great if you like the ending.. I don't.
saw them live in ilosaari two weeks ago, and they ended the gig with ghost trail.. and god! that was one of the best performances ever and the ending was amazingly intense!
they had the ending like that to symbolize ugin and the evil animals dancing round a fire faster and faster until right up to the point when ugin see's nillsson and everything stops dead, the whole album is a story and the ending conveys this scene beautifully
That's interesting stonesatreyu, how do you know that part of the story? It makes sense, I noticed that when Ugin is alluded to, the heaviest part of the songs coincide.
hey the album was pretty good, just because they choose not to pigeon hole them selves and keep playing music that is synthesizer driven, like many bands jumping on the band wagon. this doesn't mean they aren't a credible band any more, its just shows that this band can change and still play music with substance. I bet your one of those posers who want a scene to call their own.
ohh im sorry i must have struck a nerve calling you a poser, i assumed you were one of those 90 pound guys fighting invisable ninjas in the moshpit arms flailing.
when I first heard the album I was a little disappointed too. I didn't think it was bad or anything but was hoping more and it didn't feel like it measured up to the other albums. Then after a month of listening it opened up and turned out to be their masterpiece that blew everything they have done before out of the water. Give it a few more listens and another chance, who knows, maybe it turns out better for you too with time, like it did for me. And yes, retardable, Ilosaari's gig was extatic
DUDE!!!!!
YOU freaking HAVE to upload the end of this song!!?!?!
WTF!?
The whole 10 minutes is a build up to the ending... please!!!!!

Favorite song off the new album.
I'm in a band and we derive alot of our music from Cult of Luna. Just go to myspace . com / atilanta or search ATILANTA in myspace music.

This kind of reminds me of Opeth's "Heir Apparent"- a great, melodic band choosing to instead make atonal, ugly music.

I agree with this.
Sad to say, the whole album was a bit of a disappointment to me, but this is one of the really good songs on it. The ending was just badly done.
And there is no right or wrong, there's only opinion.
