  • it doesnt get any better then this. i wanna hear hot choc-a-wet

  • Liking Shonen Knife brought me here

  • They're so likeable

  • @roejogan8 arigatou.

  • @AshleyMarkPomeroy Yes,Shonen Knife entertain us.they're different from other Japanese girls bands.

  • @keistadgroep

Ik was er ook bij! Wat vond jij van Vlees?

  • I saw them at Lolapalooza back in... eh... I think it was the first one. Or the second one... they had this awesome stage show with an inflatable panda or something. Everyone was scratching their heads.

  • I don't care for their teenybopper corny punk music, but i've heard worse...i just like Oriental girls, and especially girls that play guitars and sing!

  • @Eddieguitarloebs Actually, if you read between the lines, this is a very sophisticated song about how Japanese women feel about themselves using a doll as a comparaison to themselves vs Western girls (Blonde hair, Blue eyes, long legs... she's welcomed by guys, she can dance well<< A comment on the Western woman's sensuality) a lament that sadly some Asian women feel, despite the fact that they are as attractive as Western women, if not moreso (At least to me). The Knife write about life!

  • @Shoknifeman I love all women, and wasn't aware Asian women felt that way,i can tell you that in my opinion Asian women are the most beautiful on earth, and i think on average there are more beautiful Asian women then any other race.but that's just me.nothing beats their soft white perfect skin and petite bodies..i just love it.If i had my choice for a woman to be my wife or whatever,it would be an Asian for sure. They are just unbelievably beautiful.and this is coming from an American in his 50's.

  • @Eddieguitarloebs I'm a Canadian man in his 50s who agrees with you on that one ! ;)

  • could anyone tell me if this is the original lineup ?

  • @wrongturn320 Yes, Naoko Yamano lead guitar / singer, songwriter, Michie Nakatani on Bass/singer; songwriter and Naoko's little sister Atsuko on drums; this was Shonen Knife from 1981 until Michie left in 1999

  • @Shoknifeman thanks man ... i do not know how i can love punk and related music for 20 or more years now and overlook this band . great group on many levels .. thanks again

  • @wrongturn320 You're very welcome... they will be on tour all over North America this fall; a good chance for you to get to know them! :)

  • This was taped at Irving Plaza NYC, in 1993 (Tour for Let's Knife?)

  • @BambooJolie Good point, but I always thought that Shonen Knife were just more *entertaining*.

  • @BambooJolie cool story bro.

  • ME RUV YOU RONGTIME......LOL OR ROR........

  • @CRUSHERJON not funny

  • Get back to Michie's sexy shorts, I'd rather get in Michie's sexy shorts.

  • @iloveshonenknife1 hahahhahahahaha I guess I could agree with that

  • @iloveshonenknife1 Yeah, Michie was extremely curvy for a Japanese woman ;)

  • oh fuck...she is so cute at the end what with her smile and all.

  • lol, I love how the audience is just bouncing a little. This band is like panda bears, they're adorable, but they're vicious!...Sort of.

  • mojo mag & cobain brought me here also & I'm glad i did.......BETTER LATE THAN NEVER..............

  • Friend of a friend used to be married to Michie and she used to cheat on him? Sounds like a BS story to me.

  • Can we all get back to Michie's sexy shorts now? :p

  • Mojo & Cobain Brought me Here

  • 笑顔でパンク節。客も頭悪そうに見える。

  • lmfao@ shoknifeman

  • Kurt Cobain brought me here..

  • @droge085 Me too

  • this was the best line up!

  • 7 people dislike this video; note their lobotomy scars!

  • Authentic Gibson V just like KK Downing, Schenker and Hendrix \m/

  • いいっすね

  • This band fucking rules so hard. Makes me so happy to listen to them.

  • love it!

  • roejogan8...you have no idea what you're talking about. You probably like bands like this because your no-talent ass could pick up a guitar and play this shit with no problem. The reason bands like Muse and Bloc Party (yes it's BLOC, not Block) are right to feel entitled is because their songs reveal a deep understanding of musical theory, and abstract lyrics that require some fucking thought.

I can appreciate Shonen Knife, but you need to shut up about Muse and Bloc Party. KOL sucks though

  • @jimstix99 Sorry, but Muse does NOT have abstract lyrics that require much thought. They are an amazing band music wise but lyrically are really archetypal.

  • @artfanatsymanic Wellsir, I respectfully disagree!

  • well ok. cool. Agree to disagree. Hooray respectfulness!

  • @artfanatsymanic Who cares? This is a Shonen Knife video; I don't know or even CARE who "Muse" is!

  • @jimstix99 more people like my comment than yours. wherever did that brilliant thing run off to? ah well. i am the one in the know here. you're out in the cold freezing your balls off with your lack of knowledge. being able to play a peice of music doesn't determine if it's good or bad, silly boy. i know it's bloc party. i simply don't have enough respect for them to give a shit about spelling their name right. you're getting the idea of abstract lyrics and trash mixed up.

  • @jimstix99 i do not need to shut up about anything. block party and muse are 3rd rate alternative bands. shonen knife are better. fuck, there are tons of bands that are better. radiohead destroys muse and gang of four SHIT all over blockk party. the originals are almost always better and in this instance that is certainly the case.

  • This brings back so many memories. I was in college in the early 90s and loved Shonen Knife. THank you so much for sharing. :)

  • Bang bang bang, Twist Barbie

    Oh! Sexy girl!

  • 日本のコメントもっと出てこ~い。

  • I love the japanese there are adorable but on stage they dont know really how to rock out,lol naww well still gd song :)

  • They make my dick hard.

  • Cute!!

  • good band. kinda pitiful and pathetic live though. they will live forever on my ipod though.

  • I first heard this song as a cover by Adam Marsland's Chaos Band in Southern California. It is a real find to see the original in a video. They're cute and they rock!

  • i cant believe these guys have been playing music for 30 years. they might be Japanese but they are defiantly true punk in their own right.

  • THANKS SO MUCH for uploading this I LOVED Shonen Knife when I was in college. I listened to them ALL the time. I LOVED this song too,but I loved all their work!

  • @bintasyllah Well, they are still recording great new songs!

  • Nirvana loves this band

Search "Nirvana Space Shower Interview 08/23/1991 Reading Festival"

  • simple easy listening rock song (remembering with band such Ramones)

    Banzai, salam dari Indonesia

  • Cheers to Michie Nakatani, one of rock's most underated singer-songwriter-bassists, and, to her sexy leather shorts ^_~ (I do miss her contribution to SK)

  • @Shoknifeman Agreed. Michie's songs rock...and so do her hotpants!

  • @lajolla200 I thought the comments on this song needed something a little lighter ;)

  • ahhhhhhh. i love this band so so so so much. naoko... i wanna be you.

  • Of all the wonderful live SK performances on YT, this one is still my very favorite....it shows the original members at their very best; and Michie at her cutest ;)

  • are the group still together?

  • @1960unclemort , Yes, but, only Naoko (far right) is still playing, of the originals (Its her band, SK will end when SHE decides) Atsuko < drums left 2 years ago, and Michie (bass) left in 1999

  • Still on tour so that says alot , they like what they do and it shows no pretense just rock the way it should be.

  • Judging from their stage outfits, I think this is circa 1994. Michie is so adorable!

  • I really like this band! Not because they are female and attractive, but because I OHNEST TO GOD, REALLY LIKE THIER MUSIC! What's wrong with me?

  • @iloveshonenknife1 Nothing, I feel the exact same way! ^_^

  • Every shonen knife video I see "o well kyrt kobain loved this band, good enuff for mee derp" and other remarks like that and all I wanna say is stop being a tool

and like something because YOU like it.

But whatever this band is amazing and roejogan said everything

    that was necessary to say.

  • when is this?

  • @Desutoroyalove I'm not sure exactly but, sometime late in the 1990s

  • Kurt Cobain loved these girls, thats enough for me, they rock!

  • ONe of my most treasured 7 inches, always shivers me from skull to balls haha, pure joy!

  • Haha, theze girlz are great & that flying V guitar iz nearly az big az her :)

  • This band was inspired by the Ramones and early LA punk bands. (As told in an interview one time)

  • wow. too much feelings at the same time. the shonen knife are amazing. awesome.

  • If the Ramones were Japanese, and female, and not dead, they would be Shonen Knife

  • Comment removed

  • @alleyghost GABBA GABBA SUSHI

  • @alleyghost I think the drummer's dead....

  • @slothmag No, this drummer Atsuko quit the band to move to LA... The dead girl is former Knife "support" drummer Mana Nishiura who died in a van rollover, 5 years ago (Nov 4); when she was touring with DMBQ, another Japanese punk band

  • @alleyghost That, and if you could cross-breed the not-dead Ramones with Blondie.

  • @alleyghost You read my mind! LOL

  • the chorus reminds me of the dead kennedys song kill the poor

  • yes i agree

  • Michie never looked better than she does here in the tight shirt and hot pants, how I miss her...but, Ritsuko (the new bassist) is a hottie too! ;)

  • Comment removed

  • muse, what's that

  • They're an alternative band

  • Love Shonen Knife!! Love, love, love, love, LOVE Shonen Knife :-)

  • They seem stick out like a sore thumb? No way, they are still great!

  • supergroup is shonen knifes latest album.SHOEN KNIFE ROCK THE WORLD.

  • Listen up runts. What more could you ask for in a band? This is the most natural and for real thing I have ever heard. FUCK OFF WITH YOUR MUSE, BLOCK PARTY, AND KINGS OF LEON. Shonen Knife is a million times better you elitist little fucks. They have the magic and the big heart. Top fucking songwriting too, and they command the stage with their innocense and charm. The other bands I speak of have such a sense of entitlement and have their head shoved up their own pompous asses NO SINCERITY TWATS

  • Well said, sir.

  • True.

  • @Grandetrepertre i have 48 thumbs up you nincompoop. you're the idiot here. they are not a bad copy of the ramones. they were inspired by them and are damn great. get off this video clown, before i drop kick you through a wall while shonen knife plays in the background.

  • @roejogan8 hahahahahahhahahahhahahaaha TY on behalf of all us Knife Collectors!

  • @roejogan8 Why get so worked up? Both bands are mediocre.

  • @roejogan8 Aren't you an elitist for demonizing anyone who listenst to muse block party or kings of leon? Why does this hateful comment have so many thumbs up.

  • @flipidy94 i'm not an at all. i'm just that fucking real and honest. obviously those bands do it for the money, fame, and personal gain. if you cannot see this you're blind young insect. music is their job, for shonen knife, music is everything.

  • @roejogan8 Fuck off. You are an Elitist in every meaning of the word and are also an arrogant condescending douche bag. Don't give me this bullshit were you think your intelligent enough to even think about judging others based on their musical preferences. Eat a dick your cunt sack.

  • @flipidy94 52 thumbs up do not lie. you do. lol. now simmer down now young insect. eat a dick your cunt sack? enlgish please bruh. scurry along vermin. i'm off to post even more brilliant comments and recieve unanimous praise for my efforts! well ,except from you of course. lol.

  • @roejogan8 You just blindly praise a band like a twat fuck off cock bag

  • @flipidy94 ummmm you won't get a lot of support here, flip; we don't "blindly follow" the Knife, we love them for what they are, the greatest unknown band of all time ;)

  • @Shoknifeman How are they unknown? I know a lot of people who like them. They are a phenomenal band It is just this roejogan guy is the worst kind of fan. The kind who think that putting down people who do not share their musical preferences makes them better. People should not be supporting this.

  • @flipidy94 Imeant unknown in the sense that they arent your "top ten radio, cookie cutter, household name" type band...I meant that in a good way!

  • @Shoknifeman they are pretty unknown outside of their country. they had a brief exposure to the mainstream in the early 90's but these days they are pretty obscure. flipidy would pick a fight with his own toenails i think...

  • @roejogan8 Actually, they are more popular outside of Japan than in Japan itself

  • @Shoknifeman really? that's not what i heard. bt i believe you. how do you know?

  • @roejogan8 Well, I'm going by what I've read on several online interviews and reviews of the band. (In fact, they were popular overseas before they had any success in Japan)

  • @flipidy94 i don't blindy do anything in life. a good deal of thought goes into everything i do. when i praise shonen knife, i know exactly why i love them and exactly what makes them special to me and even some of their other fans. you blindy start fighting with people. it's a funny comment. i'm not being totally serious. chill out insect.

  • @roejogan8 Well you obviously did not put much thought into your comment. You contradict your self when you say its just a funny comment right after you said you put a lot of thought into everything you write. I never questioned whether or not you legitimately liked Shonen Knife I just criticized your close minded comments about other music.

  • @flipidy94 so you can't be humorous and have fun, yet put thought into what you're saying? you're wrong. you said i blindly followed shonen knife. it's pretty clear you're questioning my legitimacy. i love lots of other music. just not those bands i spoke of.

  • @roejogan8 Why are you so stubborn? You clearly contradicted yourself, how in any way can you defend against that? Its not like your great with English and it was some kind of rhetorical genius. Your really quite the opposite. I said you blindly follow them because you think that because they are SOO good that you are entitled to bash other bands by calling them "elitist fucks". Do you even understand what elitistism means? The irony in the statement is remarkable.

  • @flipidy94 it's called being right. i am genius and great with english so let's get that straight right off the bat, junior. i didn't call those bands elitist fucks, i called their fans it. no bigger twats than bloc party and muse fans. fuck, especially muse. they're fucking dreadful! band and fans! you blindy comment and have no idea what you're even fighting for. i speak the truth. kings of leon are sellouts and pander to idiots. muse is awful chic grunge, and don't get me started on bp!!!!!!!

  • @flipidy94

Roe is right, Kings of Leon and Muse do suck. It's all been done before by far better bands.

  • @tubbythug92 That is not what I am arguing at all! I don't even like those bands...

  • @flipidy94

Not saying if you did like them or you don't. I just said those kind of bands take all the fun out of music and takes all the attention. It's a no brainer why underground bands today can't be heard.

  • @tubbythug92 Just because it takes you a little more time to find bands you like because they are slightly harder to find isn't a negative thing. It makes you realize a lot about music besides don't tell me finding bands like these isn't more fun when you have to look for them then why they are just floating around on the radio.

  • @flipidy94

It isn't a negative thing at all. Finding underground music is like finding a jewel. Think of it as a treasure hunt. Where Roe is getting it...why listen to bands that do float around the radio while you have great bands like Shonen Knife to listen to...people are just too lazy to dig.

  • @tubbythug92 Please how me where he said this because your pulling it out of your ass. Also I never said it wasn't negative did you even fucking read my comment?! Besides I messaged him asking if he was trolling and he said yes so fuck off!!!!

  • @flipidy94

Pretty obvious he said "FUCK OFF WITH YOUR MUSE, BLOCK PARTY, AND KINGS OF LEON. Shonen Knife is a million times better". Also I was agreeing with you saying it wasn't negative, you half a brain. Reason why he's trolling is because there is too many ignorant kids on youtube. Done and done.

  • @tubbythug92 So alienating your potential audience and making fun of them while being ignorant is a going to change the mind of "ignorant kids"? Besides there is nothing wrong with liking music you hear on the radio, it's just people who say that music today sucks but refuses to do any type of research whatsoever that need to go looking for music.

  • @flipidy94

Didn't say it would change their minds. Ignorant kids just need a good talking to...And there isn't any problem at all listening to music on the radio I agree, and how everyone is complaining about music today..well that's their loss if they are too lazy to find what they want.

  • @roejogan8 amen lol

  • @roejogan8 How is muse in that group? You must not know enough about them...

  • @JoeSatForPres cause muse are commercial, chic alternative music. they got some cheesy ass stuff dude.

  • @roejogan8 Great band, but IDK about innocence. Michie is not innocent.

  • @AngrySemite In what way?

  • @Shoknifeman

Friend of a friend used to be married to her. She used to cheat on him pretty publicly. He first found out in Rolling Stone. Not pleasant. Adorable, but not innocent.

  • @AngrySemite I wasn't aware that she'd been married... but then, she was never one to talk about her private life in interviews

  • just bought the supergroup 2 weeks ago, check out the song slug, sounds real bassey in car ,a great song

  • love watching the bass player danceing

  • Her name was Michie (Mee-chee-eh) Nakatani , she quit the band in 1999 after the Happy Hour tour

  • oh well you would know

  • Comment removed

  • Shonen Knife forever!

  • love their music!

  • I think this is in Paradiso, Amsterdam, 25/11/91. Nirvana played that night too. The stage is the same and the girls dress with leather and black skirts, so it should be in that time, where grunge was mainstream.

  • A Band Called Bert

  • their music are similar to

    ramones music

  • yeah this opening riff is pretty much "beat on the brat". but the ramones got that from "sugar, sugar" by the archies i think (or was it "yummy yummy" by 1910 fruitgum company?, one of those...). i'm sure shonen knife, like tons of bands, wouldn't have existed in quite the same form if not for the ramones, but they are veeeeeeery original all the same.

  • There were bands before, since, and after The Ramones. C'mon, let's not get narrow minded.

  • First there was nothing, then there was the Ramones.

  • No, son, first there was Les Paul. Period.

  • dont call me son, daddy.

  • in america,yes.....however if you look you will find that shonen knife started punk in japan..........i guess if your some crazy republican then ok...but shonen knife has already shown that they love the ramones.

im just wondering what is the point of your comment because shonen knife has said the same thing you said in your comment?

  • Shonen Knife started punk in Japan!?

I'd better erase my tapes of 70's J Punk and start again.

  • you misunderstand my comment my friend.......shonen brought j pop too the map and really made it what it is today in the states....as far as the older stuff...i must ask you "did any of that have much relevance in punk history"?no it did not......shonen put jpop on the map and that was my point.

  • Comment removed

  • You can almost cut the tension with a knife, let's just agree that this is an awesome band and leave ithat okay? No need to argue

    :)

  • I agree with you dolphin ;)

  • I like the Ramones, but, i LOVE Shonen Knife!

  • They played many years ago (circa. 1980) in a Ramones cover band before starting Shonen Knife

  • yeah they even spent some time known as "The Osaka Ramones"

  • i love the lyrics! awesum!

  • This song is about Chris Barri/

  • 少年ナイフ

  • Btw, this song is not about Chris Barrie....unless he's had a sex change lately!

  • Bam bam bam, Chris Barrie... Oh sexy guy! :P

  • you need a hearing aid, if that's what you heard hahaha ;)

  • I love this band....I even am a mod in an SK forum...this is my favorite live version of a Shonen Knife song on You Tube!

Man i miss Michie!!! (And now, I guess Atsuko is gone too)

  • Are the chords to this song similar to Blitzkrieg Bop?

  • no.

  • most talented band to come
