@gundamzerostrike I love Geist but it wears its small budget on its sleeve, the animation is hampered but not too bad, and the amount of detail in so much of it is one reason why the animation suffers. It was a small production, done by a team not really ready for Ohata.
Everytime a song starts in the background, my attention goes to the music and I lose attention to the actually story, which of course is a conundrum. Music is so good.
I just remembered something; back in my highschool years, I met a girl who looked SO much like Vaiya! And then a few years after I got out, I met someone who looked a lot like Geist! And I mean this guy had a lot of the same facial features; blonde hair, blue eyes, ect! And I have to admit I was a little apprehensive when I first ran into this guy! I know this sounds hard to believe, but I remember quite well!
Norio Wakamoto (voice of MD Geist) was also the voice of Vicious from Cowboy Bebop. He has a nice voice. Fact, I can imagine him playing the voice of Zero from MMX if there was an anime of the game, or even several other characters that come to mind.
Another thing I just realized is that Vaiya's name is the Spanish word meaning "Go". So I was guessing her full name could be "Vaiya Con Dios" meaning "Go with God", or "Vaiya Con Diablos" meaning "Go with the Devil".
@MDthornton83: Considering how silly English and Spanish are thrown around in anime, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if "Vaiya Con Dios" was intended to be her actual name. Oddly enough, I always viewed Vaiya as a Hispanic character, if not of mixed Japanese/Hispanic ethinic origin. I kinda look at her as a more feminine, less gonzo version of Vasquez from Aliens.
@VendavalEste: You learn something new everyday. It's a fitting name since she seems to "suck" off the powerful and more sufficient of men. If this comment sounds vulgar, I sincerely appologize.
Another thing I was thinking on what MDS could stand for besides "Most Dangerous Soldier" would be "Mentally Deranged Sociopath" which is technically what Geist is. But then I guess he'd be more of an MDP meaning "Mentally Deranged Psychopath". That'd be more fitting for him.
@VendavalEste several shows in the 80's almost have this same concept: Post apocalyptic world, gang violence, one guy who can kick so much ass. Examples: Hokuto No Ken and Violence Jack
@Badazztard: That would probably be the anime/manga fight to end all anime/manga fights. I don't know if Geist's body could stand up to Hokuto Shinken, though, although it has been hinted at in M.D. Geist 1 and 2 that Geist can endure and quicky heal from mortal damage that the average person would die from.
Yeah. The blood seemed to have been air-brushed rather than painted on the cels with the traditional paint-brush. Needless to say he was blasting GALLONS of it everywhere! That guy had NO chance against Geist whatsoever!
Hmm. Well, either way, I'm pretty sure it was air-brushed. And I know this sounds strange, but I actually find it quite interesting how they could incorporate different art techniques into animation besides ink and paint. And the air-brush is useful for a lot of things. Things like dust, wind, smoke, light, shades, etc.
I think Norio Wakamoto's the only one who ever survived voicing an MDS. The dub and Japanese Director's Cut Geists along with the Krauser ended up dying.
I just started watching Urusei Yatsura on YouTube and learned that Fumi Haruno, the Japanese voice actress of Lum, was also the Japanese voice actress of Vaiya. I'm now expecting her to refer to Geist as "Darling". LOL.
o lawl, that'd be somewhat fitting, I do think it's awesome Geist's original VA was Norio Wakamoto, I now expect the cat in Azumanga Daioh to start killing people. I think I'm coming to love this anime more and more as I'm getting more into sleaze films and actiosploitation movies, which most people don't really "get" why I like them. Makes me wonder if people hate this because a lot still expect anime to be 'deep' and artsy or something.
I like M.D. Geist because it's so bad that it's good. If done correctly, it could have been an epic sci-fi/action anime OVA series for mature audiences. Personally, I find M.D. Geist to be more in tune with the Heavy Metal magazine and the original 1981 film than adult-oriented anime in general.
You know, come to think of it, I actually do see some influences from the 1981 Heavy Metal film in this anime. Not much though except for the post apocalyptic setting along with the rock and roll soundtrack.
@VendavalEste LOL I just saw some Code Geass a moment ago and I was thinking "Hot damn so this is what Emperor Charles was doing before he became emperor. If Lelouch didn't ask God to wipe him from existence in R2 episode 21, he would have wound up like that gang boss." XD No matter what the role Norio Wakamoto is a paragon of badass.
An unintroduced member of Golem's gang, there's concept art of her and another woman who never showed at all. MD Geist is cool, but goddamn it had some incredibly weak direction.
Thanks for the storyboards. I liked how the unintroduced female of Golem's gang tried to "test" Geist in the "knife fight" storyboard. Also, I believe the storyboards of the other two women eventually became Vaiya because of their similarities to her final design.
I never looked at that scene that way. I always thought of it as Geist driving at a different path and the girl losing her control on the bike because of an incoming mech. But you're probably right.
It really did take me a long time to comprehend some of the scenes in this, I love M.D. Geist, but I think I'd have to rate it pretty lowly just because the directing is hard to understand, but that might have just been me. Then again, I think anyone would be confused by that scene, because we've never seen her before.
If both Geist OVAs were better constructed, I would consider it to be something about a man who is indifferent to those around him and only seeks pleasure from killing because of those who made him. He punishes the world by unleashing the Death Force because of how Crutes imprisoned him then set him up, and in the sequel he would oddly be somewhat heroic by freeing the people who were not indoctrinated by Krauser. He's the type of guy to make a religion out of himself I think.
doubt we actually had the chance to see all of the gang. it could also be that time went by and they grabbed a few stragglers for the fun :)... err, I mean, fight-o!
Again...these manly characters that don't care about sex.

low-budget glory? The animation quality and level of detail of this anime is waty better tan 99% of the series that we have nowadays.

I've always been so used to Norio Wakamoto's voice being used for the roles of villains. Now that he's the good guy, it feels kinda weird.

That, or you just don't piss him off so he's not likely to activate your planet's doomsday device.

Y'know, I believe that was what Geist was thinking about when the Death Force mission was being explained to him and the NoahGuard troops.
"Should I spare the planet and simply kill Crutes, or should I do both?"
