I spent 12 years of my life working in the accounting field with some good and not so good people but decided to make a change this year. I completed my EMT-Basic and am now taking prerequisites to one day become a paramedic. Now looking back to January starting the class, I feel it's the best decision I've ever made. Love trying to help my fellow mankind and working with some of the finest individuals in the world.
Oh my bad for some reason that is what year that came to mind rhen I though about that song I'lll try to find out what the album is I think it is the Fray how to save a life.
u do have a point. do be honest i dont think emts, firefighters, and police dont get enough recognition. i mean we all have the same mission. "to help those in there time of need"
It definitely takes a certain type of person to do this job, too. I mean, as anyone in EMS can say, there's just things out there that you'll never be able to "unsee". I'll never forget what my instructor told me right before we got out into the field. "You guys will unfortunately see things that no human being should ever see, but in doing so, You're saving someone else from having to see it, someone that may not be ready to handle it." That really hit me when I finally got out into the field.
i know you posted this comment a while ago but i read what your instructor told you and thought that statement is so true i hope you dont mind but i would like to use it im an instructor myself and just started another emt-b class great sayings are hard to come by
Hey, no problem, I think every instructor should drive that point home. This isn't an easy job, not by a long shot, and that message might be what it takes to make someone think twice about why they're getting into the job in the first place.
People don't realize; we're not the uniform we wear, we're not the patch on our sleeve, and we're not the vehicle we drove up in. Medics are medics long before they have the right to say so, they are not made they're discovered. When tragedy strikes everybody runs; some toward and some away. Those of us that do this job are all bound by one question you ask it everytime you answer a call; "If I don't, who will?"
thanks for posting this, i believe FF and EMT's sometimes dont get enough credit for what we/they do... i think alot of ppl overlook BLS since the majority in my area are volunteer.. Hopefully one day ill do ALS... and it definitely is a rewarding job, however at times you deal w/ things that can crush a person, CODES, fatalities, etc
Rneir0492 you can get the EMT Trousers at a Tactical Ops or on E-bay, they usually run from around 24-36$. if you work for Emergency Medical Services or a Fire Dept. as a first responder you will be given the EMT trousers. =D As for the EMS shears... stethoscope, etc.. you will be given that once you have a job with FD or EMS.
Adam2334, you your most certainly right. You learn a lot working as a FF or an EMT, or both... Or just as a Paramedic. You become more mature, everyone jokes around and acts stupid, of course. I mean as far as well making fun of people, outlook on life. The job is rewarding where as it is stressful especially with pediatric patients.
Thank you for creating this video... I'm quite familiar with Monroe EMS... This video hits home more then the other ones because it is from an area I'm familiar with... Awesome job...
