  • Any plans for a "Nuggets from the Liverpool 5 Part 3?" That would be awesome!!

  • I just shared Nuggets parts 1 and 2 to my Facebook page.

  • Thank you SO much for your reply!! I realized after I sent my post that the middle initial in your screen name is an 'e' and your dad's is an 'a'. Wowee, can't believe he celebrated his 70th birthday!! Ron and Dave can't be too far behind. Did anyone video the birthday bash? I would love to hear them play live again. I know he won't remember me, but, please give him my very best regards. Did you inherit his musical talent? I hope all the guys are enjoying happy, successful lives. Cheers!

  • I was SO excited to see "The Best of the Liverpool Five" CD available on Sundazed records!! I immediately sent for 2 copies, one for myself and one for my VSBFF, Cherie. I have personally signed copies of their 2 LPs that I treasure, but, the CD is much more user-friendly.

  • Does anyone have a link to a torrent they can shoot me for The Liverpool Five? Having some trouble finding them...

  • These guys really shake my nerves and rattle my brain. Super group if you ask me and my friends

  • Absolutely fabulous....real nice

  • I had the privilege to become acquainted with this fab group of guys in the 1960s through my best friend, Cherie Robison from Centralia, WA. I'm still pinching myself at my good fortune. Superb musicians and great guys. I have so many treasured memories of the Liverpool Five from this era and over 40 years later I'm still listening to them on YouTube and re-living the dream. You guys still rock!! Love you always!! Corvette Chick from Southwest Washington State

  • @corvettechicka Do you still have a Vette? Anyway I have to admire your taste in music...these guys were great.

  • @aeoldal Of course I still have my Vette!! I plan on being buried in it, LOL!! My intuition tells me that your stage name initials were/are SL and you're a lead vocalist. If I'm correct, and I'm quite sure I am, drop me a line.

  • @corvettechicka ,Glad you still have that great car. However, your intuition is not quite correct. The person with the SL initials is not me. I am proud to say he is my father.I know that he, Ken, Ron and Dave are all flattered that they are not only remembered by so many old fans, but also discovered by many new ones too. I was extremely impressed when those four reunited for my dad's 70th Birthday in 2010. They turned back the clock. Thanks for being part of their history and enjoy that cd.

  • These guys grow on me like nobody has done since the Beatles...sure is a pleasure that later generations are now climbing onto their bandwagon thru sites like this one. Great idea to do Parts 1 and 2, each with multiple tracks..

  • I have been surfing around on You Tube and have found a bunch of Liverpool Five tunes but I still think that "She's Mine" is one of their very best.

  • I hear the Blue Magoos bass line from "Nothing Yet," but the lead singer in particular makes me think of the Pretty Things' music from the mid-60s.

  • @SunnBurn and @icozzarelli.....Seems like the Blues Magoos bass/guitar riff sounds a lot like the LP5's " She's Mine" rather than the other way round since the latter's was recorded quite a bit earlier...I checked it out.. Others elsewhere have noted that the LP5 probably " borrowed " it from Ricky Nelson's " Summrtime".

  • @SunnBurn I am a long time fan of the PrettyThings, especially Phil May's vocals but I have to agree that Steve Laine has a much more versatile range as exemplified on the Liverpool Ffive recordings I have recently found on You Tube.Gotta love both groups who never got the recognition they deserve.

  • Sounds like the Blues Magoos, sort of...

  • @lcozzarelli

Yep. Sounds a lot like them.

It almost sounds like a combination of Blues Magoos and the Chocolate Watchband.

  • First time here..these guys are great

  • hehehe....I remember myself and my girlfriend in Augsburg Germany yelling at the top of our lungs that the Liverpools were there in our golf field, next to the American housing to play a bit of golf. All kinds of girls came out yelling. They quickly took their escape. Then a couple of years later they were playing at Ft. Lewis Officers club in Tacoma Wa. where I got to sing on stage with them, "You are my sunshine".

    gee good memories.....Julie

  • @jimani1957 Fun story about this fantastic band that I only recently discovered. Just this year more of their recordings have turned up on You Tube and they appear to be getting some long overdue wider recognition. Comments from people like you go a long way to letting us new converts find more details of their strange history...starting out in England, shifting over to the rest of Europe, then to Japan and finally to the US where four of them remained and reunited on stage in March 2010.

  • Dave Burgess (Bass) is featured on one of the biggest music websites in UK -- fenderstrat.co.uk He played bass with Eric Clapton. Top world bass player in my view. Get his earlier history on that website

  • Did the Real Don Steele do this promotion at the beginning of this clip before he came to LA in 1965?

  • @efrem1 I think that the voice is that of Pat O'Day.

  • Great bass playing by the guy who joined up with Eric Clapton in UK - namely, Dave Burgess. Liverpool Five are a tight solid group and are good to listen to.

  • @jonfish5 I responded to a craigslist ad today for a telescope, when I got there, it was Dave Burgess. He lives in Sacramento. Hell of a nice guy.

  • If life was fair these guys would've given The Chocolate Watchband areal run for their money. What a revelation!

  • Glad to hear that the guys got back together for a reunion...based on the comments it sounds like it was a blast.Glad also to see more of their stuff turning up on You Tube but special kudos go out to MRC for being the first to bring the LP5 back into focus for so many new fans.

  • Just found these guys as a result of other YouTube channels but have to say they are fantastic. They definately deserve more recognition.

  • Steve, Ken, Ron, and Dave. The first time they played together on stage, since 1968. It was GREAT. I have not seen the guys since our reunion in Reno about five years ago. They surprised a lot of people I think. The clock was turned back and the sound was fantastic as it was the 60's. Lot of memories of being with them for the greatest 5 years of my life. Theirs no people like show people. Thanks for a great night guys. John Kan-do Kandarian

    The Liverpool Five

  • Roxsox is correct. The band played an unbelievable set.

  • Yo Paul.....we need more details.....were you there?

  • Yes, I was there. It was a birthday party, the 4 of the 5 original members played after dinner 14-15 songs. First time together since '67 or '68 I believe. The set was truly magic, from beginning to end, everybody raved.

  • According to Wikipedia ,Steve Laine's birthday is the 19th of March so was it indeed a party to celebrate that?

  • LP5 Newsflash. My mother just told me that this last weekend, possibly in Sacramento,California there was an invitation only on stage reunion of the band with four original members and an American drummer. I will check it out...if anyone else knows more let us know.

  • @Roxsox221 Over on Nuggets{ part 1) looks like it was a guy named Dennis Moffett who sat in on drums with the LP5 for a fab performance at Steve Laine's birthday party last month in California. It was obviously invitation only at a Doubletree Hotel ballroom for a few hundred close friends of the band. Great to see that they still can bring it after all these years...pity their original drummer, Jimmy May could not make it.

  • @Oddsman57 and others. I was fortunate to get to attend Steve's birthday bash along with friends from around the US, Canada and England and can only echo what others have already said...it was f******g amazing. . Oh what a night it was and I was there.

  • @MB300TE You are so lucky...sounds like a blast...wish I was there..

  • Again, Ricky Nelsons single SUMMERTIME predates the suggested late 60 s by a mile. I thought 1965, but I ve just read it was 1962

  • FYI Purpelaar.....It's Joe Osbourne's great bass riff on Ricky Nelson's record that all the later versions were based on. On that same recording JImmy Burton's guitar intro was copied exactly by Johnny Rivers on his version of Chuck Berry's "Memphis".IImitation is a form of flattery after all.The LP5's song " She's Mine " is still a fine early garage rocker with it's own edgy bass and lead guitar work.

  • This is great stuff and all completely new to me.

The 60s - the decade that keeps on giving!

  • Please give me song recomendations for the liverpool 5! They sound fantastic! I've never heard their songs before, i only stumbled onto this because i thought "If you gotta go" was by Bob Dylan

  • Well, all that's currently available is the "Best of the Liverpool Five" CD from Sundazed, so that's my best recommendation. Dylan did write that song.

  • Hey Spiirytetc...I recommend you go over to "Nuggets from the LP5 ( part 2) "on this channel and check out the many comments that I and others have made there as well as below. You can also check info on the band and their recordings on Wikipedia.Welcome to the ever expanding group of fans for these often overlooked guys.

  • Ok, will do! Thanks!!

  • Beatles are better from the UK

  • So what freeburg100, that's hardly a valid criticism since the Beatles are universally recognized as the greatest . But these five English guys are certainly bloody good and well worth the many compliments noted here and deserving of greater recognition.

  • Everything fine and dandy man. 16 years of awfull replacment in DP called the Plain Man on LEGO GUITAR now. Always the same solo s and terrible compositions AND lots of bashing of RB s contributions in the past. Loads of musicians do what he did.NICKING and getting INSPIRED on something to make a great song.

  • Again, Ricky Nelsons version predates several other versions.

I think his single was around 1965, thats not late 60 s.

  • Stop cheerin and bashing Mister Blackmore.

He borrowed the riff from the bassline in Ricky Nelsons SUMMERTIME.

    Get a life, please....

  • Keep Kool Purpelaar....everyone knows that Ritchie B. is a fine guitarist...it just so happens that so is Kenny Cox of the LP5 and he borrowed the riff long before Misterb did...that's a fact that's all Peace out !!!!!

  • Being somewhat familiar with the 60's Pac-NW garage bands the Sonics, Paul Revere & The Raiders, the Wailers, and the Kingsmen, i admit to being in the dark about the Liverpool Five. However upon listening to these three songs it is clear these guys are absolutely incredible; tuneful and melodic like the Beatles and Hollies, yet have the garage band punch of the above mentioned NW bands. Better late than never to discover this unfortunately overlooked band.

  • fantastic band ♥

  • They're great. Never heard about them though. I looked up in Wikipedia. They disbanded very quickly, somewhere about 1967. But they sound great!

  • I never heard of these guys. They were leagues ahead of their time. Edgy and gritty & pre-saged (what I thought was) US garage sound. Thank you for posting!

  • I agree Mimi. the LP5 were really edgy and gritty but could also be very melodic and tuneful as their stuff on the other MRC channel shows.Glad you found them.

  • criminally underrated band - thanks for sharing them with the world! I would love to have seen them on that bill with The Kinks.

  • These guys were my mom's favorite band and I know she saw them play in Seattle with the Stones and later with the Kinks. She says they blew those two other bands away. Glad to find them here on U Tube

  • Thanks for the post MRC. Roxsox221- My dad was also at the Stones concert at the Coliseum in '65. The LPFIVE were one of five acts to open for The Stones. The others were PR&Raiders, Ian Witcomb, The Wailers, and The Sonics.

    Groovey82

  • Hey Groovey82 I bet your Dad had a great time at that show in '65...I heard from some of my old friends who were there reported that even the Stones had a tough time topping the LP5 who were already so popular in the area. The Kinks apparently also had the same experience shortly thereafter . A year or so later the Who came to the West Coast , saw the LP5 in San Francisco and heard their version of " My Generation". Mooney ( RIP)said that Jimmy May took the drums at the end to a new level .

  • I've been listening to the Blues Magoos tune " Ain't Got Nothin Yet" and Deep Purple's "Black Night" along with the LP5's '" She's Mine". All make use of a similar riff and I have to think that the latter influenced the formers since it was recorded earlier . All are classics in their own right.

  • WOW!!..just like Black Night from Deep Purple..

  • Wow LBjin.....you should have said that Deep Purple's " Black Night" is just like the LP5's 'She's Mine" recorded many years earlier.

  • Thanks for the insight...WOW!!!...you are sooo smart....

  • No, just the bass riff

  • @purpelaar

Actually, the riff for Black Night was stolen from a late '60s soul song. I heard it played over the PA at a gig once and couldn't believe how close it was - even closer than the riff in this song - but I never got to find out what it was.

  • "Thanks KOOLEO329 for posting your comments on Blues Magoos "we aint done nothing yet". Am a real 60s fan, but never even heard of the Liverpool Five. LP5 have another fan. Cheers!"

  • Hey MissD...I told you so...thanks for taking time to follow up on my LP5 recommendation...these guys are so KooooooL

  • what is the dates these records came out mate.brilliant they are.thanks

  • 1965 and 1966 are shown as release dates. Group broke up in 1967. Super brilliant mate.

  • Hello 90JCR, Jimmy May was a great drummer and a very good backup singer.

Where is he and what is he doing? is he still playing the drums?

  • He's retired now (obviously) but he's still a muscian at heart, plays guitar a lot now instead of drums. Lives by the sea with his wife. He's a real generous bloke, gave me a load of stuff when I started playing guitar myself.

I was shocked to see how many fans his band has to be honest, he told me about them so I looked them up but cheers everyone, he'd appreciate it! You should hear his stories about the band when they were in America. Good old Jimmy...

  • The LP5 was the most popular band in the northwest US in the 1960's. All us young girls were madly in love with them! Glad to hear Jimmy still plays the guitar a bit--he was the best drummer!!!!! I've seen the other band members a few times in the past couple of years, and they're really great guys. I"m hoping they get together and play again some time--I'd travel thousands of miles to see them!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the info on that drummer who according to their 'Best of" cd sings lead on a great group penned tune " Do You Believe?"Better than Ringo allround I think. Tell him that many new fans are finding this long overlooked band and appreciating their originality . Their tune " She's Mine" is a fab one, with a riff ripped off later by the Blues Magoos on their tune"We ain't got nothing yet". Rock on...Blighty Rules

  • Hi MB300TE and 90JCR .I think that Do You Believe is a really fine tune with a sincere message and the drummer's lead vocals are unearthly. That other tune you mentioned She's Mine rocks my sox off. What a great band for us to appreciate 45 years later thanx to a channel like this.

  • My uncle is the drummer.

  • I guess The Beatles comparisons arise from the L5s name more than their music which is more 'garage punk'. I genuinely love The Beatles, but this is a completely different band and 'She's Mine' rocks like a bastard! :)

  • Hey joelba1, you hit the nail on the head, these guys really ROCK.

  • The Be

  • What about the Monkees!!!!

  • If you have ever heard this band's version of " I'm not Your Stepping Stone" on their "Arrive " album, you would not even bring up the Monkees who were recording in the same RCA studios and "borrowed ".the song that they put out later.

  • 3:30 the guy second right looks quite a lot like a young john lennon

  • Anyone who thinks that the Liverpool Five was a cheap imitation Beatles wannbe band only has to listen to the tunes on this and other channels and to check them out on Google. If you could ask other singers and musicians with whom they played, the Stones, Kinks, Beach Boys,Georgie Fame,Donovan,Cher, Lovin' Spoonful, Mitch Ryder, Paul Revere and Fats Domino just to name a few ,then you would know how original they were. Thanks again to this site for helping put the record straight.

  • How wrong you were? these guys were the real thing as more and more are discovering.Glad you found them on You Tube as I did.

  • Maybe these guys are not quite as good as the Beatles, but they come mighty close.

  • Good stuff, new for me. Good post. Sort of Mersey-meets-early Rolling Stones.

  • You got it ...a perfect synthesis...a secret ready to break out...these guys really have been too long overlooked.

  • I had never heard of this group before and I thought I knew all of the groups from the British Invasion! Great songs. Can't wait to get their CD.

  • to be honest I think I like this more than the beatles

  • Right on...me too

  • I just joined You Tube and as a Beatles fan have to admit that these guys too are excellent ,considering I and many others had never heard them before.

  • this is just a better sound. The rawness of the guitar, it all sounds like indie music to me. The Beatles just lack something for me

  • I like that intro from the Pacific Northwest (Seattle area) . I think that was Pat O'Day talking about Mt Vernon and Birch Bay and The Liverpool Five. Ron

  • Best Liverpool Five songs would have to be "Let The Sunshine In" and "Picadilly Live". "She's Mine" is great too! I have both their RCA albums!

  • In the last couple of weeks I have picked up both RCA albums on E-Bay for under ten bucks each. I too like those songs , especially Piccadilly Line and perhaps you or others could post one or both . How about " Heart" as well?

  • UK .... bloody music capital of the world man !!

  • need more of this shizz

  • Where the heck has this band been hiding? Never heard the song "She's Mine " before, guitar and vocals are awesome. The Dylan song treatment is very original too. The other song is not that great but once again the guitar work is cool.Like other commenters I need more of these guys.

  • What a fantastic group that I never heard of before. These three tunes show great musicianship. I love the guitar sounds on all three tracks and the guys are cute too. They definately deserve more attention. I will look for other stuff by them. Hope they are still alive.

  • FYI they are all still alive. According to the liner notes on their recent cd, 4 are living in the States and the drummer is in England.

  • Thanks for the info.I got the cd and it's great.

  • I have a friend who has a copy of The Liverpool 5's "Arrive". Very catchy and simple tunes. Intriguing contrast between Manfred Mann's and the Liverpool 5's versions of Dylan's "If You Gotta Go, Go Now".

  • she's mine is a fuckin tune never heard of them before in my life now im there biggest fan goin to find the albums. love this kind of 60's music top class

  • Wow - this is the first time I've heard 'She's mine" and what a great sound. Got onto this after reading someone's comments under the Blues Magoos comments. I might be drawing a long bow on this one but the sinister guitar fuzz has hints of Link Wray's "jack the Ripper". I'll check out this band a bit more.

  • Before Deep Purple's " Black Night" and the Blues Magoos " Aint got nothing yet" , the Liverpool Five were the first group to "borrow" Joe Osborne's great bass riff from Ricky Nelson's version of the old standard " Summertime". Variations on that theme have popped up and will continue in the future.

  • Wow!!! I love this group and have just found this channel. I will check the other one too. Thanks a lot...I will tell my friends who remember them too.

  • These three songs are indeed a very good selection of the early rockers from this talented group. However, their great melodic side is really best demonstrated on the "Nuggets from the Liverpool Five (Part 2)", on this same channel, which includes their fabulous version of the Impressions' "Sister Love", an Association-like original "She's Got Plenty of Love" and their very soulful recording of the Chip Taylor composition "Anyway That You Want Me". Take some time to check them out on("Part 2").

  • I guess not I think hes dead

  • which Jack London are you you mean sparrow nick st nicholas?

  • Hi Pink knee, I, not Jack London the Square in Oakland and I haven't been to a\Alaska. I'm just Jack from London UK . Although around December I do become St Nicholas to some folks.

  • This group deserves more attention. I mean this stuff is way better than anything The Beatles were doing at the time.

  • @filmbuff4 Oh, come on, couldn't you have said more fair than that?!?

  • Wow I saw this group in San Francisco they put on a great show they were just as good live as on record. so glad a Cd has been released so I can relive some great memories.

  • Even though there has been a lot of tomorrows, 1966 seems like just yesterday, It is great to see The LPV.

And now from Sundazed there is a CD out. Who would believe that 40 years later they would be back, oh yes I do believe. Hope you all enjoy this site as much as I do. On behalf of The LPV and myself, we thank all the fans through all the years. Keep on Rockn

  • Man does this bring back fond memories. This was my favorite band in mid-60s (and still is). So glad their music is being re-released by Sundazed. I can't wait for CD #2!

  • I agree with you suzie thank god for technology

  • Thank you MRC, for bringing Liverpool Five back to life!

You have dusted off long distant memories of a Truly Great Band from way back in the day.

Let us rejoice that Record Companies and the RIAA have lost their power and control over the distribution of music - this Band should have gotten more air time; they would have been ranked among the best of the best.

    Rock on, Liverpool Five!

*** Love to you all, "Suzie"

  • Great stuff. Never knew about these guys before. (Just saw a review of the new CD in Ugly Things magazine)

  • bought liverpool 5 arrive in '65..loved that reverb...never heard again of them until now..they should have been bigger..well..

  • Looks like this great site has gone a long way in resurrecting interest in this unique band.Upto now only a few select musicians and other devotees knew of their unbelievable talents. Now a brief search of the Internet turns up multiple international sites with info on them. But you were the first on You Tube and your timing was perfect as that new cd release was about to break. Now we have to convince Sony to dig out more of their recordings such as the ones that you have here on your site.

  • MB300TE I could not agree with more. This website has been an inspiration. This band was one of the top performing bands in the sixties and for reasons unknown they were never able to break through on a national level Anyone who had the priviledge to have seen them perform will certainly agree with me.They were outstanding and thank you sundazed for re-releasing this fine material and thank you for this website

    sggrimshaw

  • I'm glad that I could be a part of paying tribute to the Five. To my way of thinking, really quality music will always have listeners. The fact that the Liverpool Five's music has stuck with you folks over the years is a testament to its enduring quality.

  • Great to hear the remastered versions of these songs on the new cd. The mix is much improved from previous releases of these songs. I have been listening to these songs my entire life since I am a relative of one of the band members and it is great to see them getting some well deserved recognition and a great sounding cd release to boot.

  • You are very fortunate to be related to one of the band members of this great undiscovered band and I agree it is wonderful after all these years to see them finally getting the recognition they truly deserve

    sg grimshaw

  • What excellent tracks, superb compilation! Garage to die for, boss!

  • Wow..I just received the new cd and IT BLEW ME AWAY. The re-mastered recordings are absolutely fantastic. The vocals are superb and that guitar sound is ******. Now I know where the Stones got the fuzz sound for "Satisfaction", the Yardbirds for " Shapes of Things" and Revere and the Raiders "Steppin' Out" all of which are blatent copies of the Liverpool Five's earlier recordings kept as a secret by so many other groups of that era.Only now are they staring to get the recognition they deserve.

  • I agree with you MB300TE this band is fantastic not only is the guitar and vocals superb the drums and the bass are rock solid coupled with Ron Henley's imaginative keyboard work and an Al Schmitt production we have a complete winner.Hopefully sundazed records will release more tracks from this virtually unknown 60's superb band.

  • first time to hear these guys - wow!

Glad to hear Sundazed is doing a reissue of

    this fantastic material.

  • Back in the sixties my dad's parttime gig was working in an appliance store that sold stereo equipment. One day he brought home an RCA sampler box setof record albums that had 5 or 6 of the L5's songs on it. I really thought they were great and I'm glad to see that they are getting a reissue of their songs.

  • Wow!!!! it's about time the LP5 got some recognition. You have done a great job here. FYI, I have heard that "Best of Liverpool Five" will be released on cd soon with 18 of their fantastic RCA tunes remastered by a major independent label. It's about time for Steve, Ken, Dave, Ron and Jimmy to get some recognition, just ask anyone who ever saw them perform in the US or around the World.I will never forget them.

  • Great, I'm very excited about the prospect of a legitimate CD release of the group's tunes. I still don't get why this group gets largely ignored both as a British Invasion group and as a US garage punk group--maybe that's just the problem: the fact that they were both things.

  • I just found out that it is Sundazed Records that is about to release "The Best of the Liverpool Five" with 18 of their remastered RCA Victor trax. On the Sundazed Web site you can even listen to 30 second samples of each track. They sound terrific and I understand that the entire package does justice to the group's legacy. It's been a long time coming but worth waiting for by us old Rockers.

  • You are so right! My parents told me about these guys and now I am like so psyched! They are the truth.

  • Fantastic! pgsurfgirl It is great to see the younger generation discovering this much overlooked band from the British 60's beat era and listening to this wonderful cd hopefully we can persuade sundazed records to re release more tracks from this great band

    sggrimshaw

  • My favorite band of all time....these guys were great (and still are). Their music is timeless. Nice young(er) people, who weren't around during the '60s, are enjoying their music now.

  • You have great taste in music --- this still sounds great 40 years later!

  • I agree with you Cheryl the Best of the Liverpool Five cd sounds great

    sggrimshaw

  • Great idea for posting garage records that have no video.I have both Liverpool Five lp's.
