  • GOD I love this fuking song

  • I saw the JG a couple times during the 70's....what a fucking treat!!!! The 1st time/version was in the early 70's with Fox, Peters and Walsh...absolutely sick!!!! The 2nd time with Fox, Peters and Tommy Bolin!!! slightly different and even SICKER! Many JG purists feel the band died when Walsh left and Tommy Bolin took over. Not me. I liked them both. I dare say they were completely different which was like listening to 2 great bands. Although Bolin was the better guitar player, he's dead.!

  • Even Ravel would give this one ''thumbs up''....

  • thank you jamie tancowny i lovethis song

  • probably the most underrated band ever..

  • Thanks to The Black Keys i think rock is going to be good again

  • jamie tancowny

  • went to see them at olemiss in1972.you could hardly see your feet for all the smoke it was cool then and cool now as i rehear this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thx joe walsh.

  • @steve71t ...i miss the 60s and 70s..

  • @susanangelika yea,me too. we were young and totally free in the moment so very cool

    times.

  • and the Guaraldi???

  • that is why I am here fellas!! Thanks fer joinin' me....

  • audio paradise stoned or not! Joe rules the guitar and the soundwaves

  • great fucking music right here!!!

  • Yeah! This is really raw and honest good f.....g rock music. I really like it. It´s really interesting to follow how the rock music changed from the mid 60s to the early 70s. One of my fav:s from 1965 was a band from Scandinavia called THE ZETTLERS. Listen to their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". It´s a totally change of sound created in the studio. But at that time it was something specially . At that time the bass started to "walk on the neck".

  • ...and this version has "Bolero" in it. Used to be that version of the record was impossible to find.

  • saw smokin joe new years eve beloit wisconsin 1969 txks joe you saved my life . the next day i went to viet nan!!

  • shut your eyes and you will get a natural high listening to such beauty

  • @83centraldrummr TRUE !!!!

  • They were still the best concert I ever saw, in Tulsa, June of 1971. They did The Bomber & its been my all time fave rock number since then. Walsh made his guitar sound like big bells ringing when he went into the Cast Your Fate to the Wind licks, after Bolero. Get goose bumps every time I hear it still.

  • @Patriot1862 Same here. I saw them at the San Diego Sports Arena, which is a huge building, completely filled with smoke from everybody getting high. I remember the smoke floating through the different colored stage lights and the exact part of the song you are speaking about. That distinct change in sound. And at the end, hundreds of small flickering flames from all the lighters the audience were holding up in the air. I still get goosebumps too. It's a great memory.

  • Definitely a stoner hit. Sounds pretty damn good straight too!

  • the Bass and the Drums plus Joe's guitar and vocals are a textbook definition of chemistry. They played so well together just look at your arm and see the goosebumps. The whole album you can't put on and play at low volumes...

And kudos for the Bolero inclusion. Yes there were 2 different versions of the album. The early ABC pressings sounded so much better than CD's. This track is quite the ride..

  • What do you mean by the punchline of the joke?

  • @GTVAlfaMan

Ah, bass music. Easy on the ears. Especially if you're in the right frame of mind, if you get my drift. Joe Walsh, a man of his times, and a beautiful guitarist. Lamar

  • What a rock n roll classic! A masterpiece of 70's drug culture rock. I get goose bumps listening to it. I especially love the inclusion the of classical Ravel's "Bolero". I never knew it was part of the original recording until I borrowed a friend's CD back in the mid 90's. I love it. The front and end of the piece are so so. But, everything in between is just freakin' awesome! I think it is one of Joe's finest recordings.

  • @hypnoticevents I heard the song today listening to the sonictap cable station : 8-tracks. There are so many excellent trippy nostalgic tracks on there.

  • Proto Stoner Doom

  • One of the best all time hard freakin rock songs of all time!

  • Is this Led Zepplinish....or is it just my waxed filled ears ? the first ? seconds! ...or who followed who ? or who gives a shit !

  • It is so awesome to see people that still love this shit! God bless you all and Joe walsh! He's a reason for faith! Amen Joe! Go visit Stern, you were great on their bro, I know he misses you.

Wait Im tal;king to a vidoe! LOL. Long live Joe! Im drunk!

  • Set the Wayback Machine, Sherman, and harken back to a time when the rock was as hardcore as the acid...are you experienced?

  • Been practicing this song on drums those drum rolls are awesome!

  • The solo starting a 4:53 is pure magic.

Greatest band on this side of the Alantic. I pretty much favor the British bands.

The James Gang with Joe Walsh is the best American rock band ever.

  • You dig into these great bands of the late 60s early 70s and everything today sucks in comparison. Maybe some underground stuff today is good don`t know?

Main stream in during the James Gang era sucked too.

  • @oberfour1 The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and Cream sucked?

  • @slpplexi1969

Main steam I was talking about was radio play. The one hit wonders. Just like today.

  • @oberfour1 Like who? There wasn't much that sucked then. I'm not a fan of the Monkeys and bands like them from the 60s, but they didn't really suck and I'd definitely take them over Green Day, Metallica, Justin Beiber, Eminem, Lady Gaga, or anything else that I've heard. There are some good bands now, but not a lot. Most just want the money, drugs, and crap like that and aren't putting their feelings into the songs.

  • @slpplexi1969 Most of the popular music played on the radio today is not as good as music made by bands that don`t get air play. Same goes for the 70`s. Disco ruled the airwaves back then.

Zeppelin ,Who, Stones didn`t get much airplay despite there popularity.

True music fans for the most part know good music.

The mainstream is the casual listener who turns on the radio.

The clasic rock stations play good music but they don`t reflect radio of the 70`s.

  • @slpplexi1969- Beatles, Hendrix, The Who and The Cream were not "main stream" back then- well the Beatles maybe. Society were scared to death of those long haired, counter culture rock musicians, most parents forbade their kids from listening to them. Most of us had secret stashes of those albums hidden away.

Mainstream back then was Sonny and Cher, Burt Bacharach, the Carpenters, etc. NOT hard rock. Hard Rock was counter-culture, underground.

    I'm sure that's what oberfour1 meant.

  • The Beatles and the Who, Cream had changed back then were gone but they were very mainstream along with Grand Funk Railroad, LED ZEPPLIN big time. and many others. Burt., Sonny and Cher, and the Carpenters were very short lived, very short. Sonny ahd Cher being the most successful. Zepplin were an almost weekly column in Rolling Stone along with Grand Funk who was selling out appearances nation wide in 68, quicker than anyone ever. Even the Beatles at Shea. Sorry, you're wrong here.

  • @elephantcup Love Bacharach!!

  • Great tune, Walsh rocks...

  • Let's all harken back to a time when the rock was as heavy as the acid...set the Wayback Machine, Sherman!!

  • A masterpiece........nothin' else needs to be said!

  • Zappa and Joe do Toreador really fuckin COOL!!!

  • @votewithabullet666 HOLY SHIT ME TOO!!!!!

  • this song moves me.....

  • This is one of the greatest songs ever devised by mankind.

  • My favorite Guitarist. My favorite three pc. Band.

  • Interesting comment about Ravel not wanting to have his music played again...but keep in mind he died in an insane asylum. Franz Kafka also asked on his deathbed for a friend to destroy all his writing. Whether you like or dislike either, their work has been loved by and has influenced millions since they died. But hey...I'm prejudiced. I was born at about the same time as "rock n' roll" and have loved (and still listen to) Carl Perkins, the James Gang, Ramones, and Ravel...among others.

  • Joe Walsh just walked up to his Marshall stack, plugged in and ripped my brain right out of my skull with the Bomber. Ravel would be proud to hear this dude wail Bolero! If Ravel is upset- who cares. I'm happy!

  • great song but what a rude thing to include Maurice Ravel Bolero when the great Ravel never, never, never wanted this song played again. he said it before he was killed.

but i guess people like joe walsh dont really care about the desires of the dead.

  • @pbrick6301

yr so progressive! Music is to be enjoyed, pretentious child...

  • @pbrick6301 what want and what you get...might differ.

  • I wish James Gang would have stuck together. Joe Walsh at his best here. Amazing cool and raw guitar rock playing. I wish he hadn't joined that boring pop band The bland bland put me to sleep Eagles.

  • @cedarvalley fuck the eagles. they are all just losers who couldn't cut it in a real country rock band (byrds/ burrito bros). and joe walks in to save their lame eagle asses with his talent.

  • @cedarvalley I definitely agree with you that Joe Walsh was a lot better in James Gang than the lame ass Eagles, I always thought The Eagles was a lame ass band and I do not like Don Henley at all.

  • @Doobie1975 ....only your opinion...Eagles ..one of the best band ever.

  • @susanangelika The Eagles were "I think" Americas answer to the Beatles and yes they were one of the best EVER. Undoubtedly.

  • @Doobie1975 I like The Eagles first 3 albums and then they became unlistenable.

  • @dhloup1 I thought their first 4 albums were good but went downhill once Bernie Leadon left the band

  • @Doobie1975 ughh thank you dude, im not the only one!

  • James Gang Is The Bomber!

  • jamie tancowny part...strange world

  • I'm fuckin ripped

  • wow this song is F******* Great! really good fucking song

  • The Bomber - Joe Walsh [Wichita, Kansas] - 1969 - "An outstanding rocker with some great guitar HOOKS by Joe Walsh. As good as Led Zeppelin would do during this period. Good first impression." - The Definitive Collection (Geffen)-2006. NOTE: In January 1968, he replaced Glen Schwartz as lead guitarist for the James Gang, an American power trio.

  • ROCK AND SKATE!!!!!

  • I freak out at how spacy this sounds even today after listening to it for 40 years!!

  • Very nice listening. Kinda drift away with it. Thanks.

  • Joe Walsh is the Greatest Rocker EVER in American History.

  • Whoaaa...... I'm having flashbacks...... cool..... a great headphone tune... thx!!

  • @jefff4750 I was just going to say the same thing. Headphones are an absolute MUST to experience the full depth of talent you are listening to.

  • What can I say ---GREAT SONG !! For Stoners and non-Stoners alike!! It's so Trippy !!!!!!

  • Wow!!! I absolutely dig this song!!! One of my first songs I learned way back when...other cats were learning smoke on the water but this riff blew me away and I had to learn it.

    Ahhhh memories..........

    Thx for posting

  • Thanks for the reply.

In any case, this was always my favorite cut on the album. Not just because of the Bolero portion, but the lyrics are fantastic.

  • i cant stand when people think they know it all !!! lighten the fuck up jack-off

  • Comment removed

  • truely a stoner hit cause I am one

  • @chippy783 - Yep, so we'll all be back tomorrow for the punchline of the joke. :^)

  • @Libertine62 dick

  • @Libertine62 lol

  • Especially Bolero - wow

  • Awesome song, awesome lead solos - crazy ass Joe, god love him.

  • made LOUD to be played LOUD DAMMIT!!!

  • Yes, this is really progressive guitar work and arrangement. Great stuff. I always thought Joe Walsh added a more heavy tone to The Eagles work which I appreciated.

(Who's the singer on this ?) Here the vocals are somewhat reminiscent of Creedence's John Fogerty. Thanks for the upload, libertine62 - John !

  • @AstraMusicOfficial That would be the man himself Joe Walsh on vocals.

  • @ckelley63 Thanks ckelley for the reply - good ole Joe !

  • Good god - who would "dislike" this??

I've got a button on my task bar for this link. . . this song goes with practically everything.

  • Got this album when it came out in 1970 when I was 15, and for years the Bolero section was unavailable because of copyright issues, and I was always dying to hear it, but when I finally did...underwhelmed! I think it really drags the song down, and I prefer the version without it by far.

  • @Rogerrumjet I totally disagree. I think it makes the whole thing work.

  • walsh please live forever

  • A great song itself .. then add "Bolero" as well as "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" by Vince Guaraldi..... and you have a masterpiece.

  • yet again !! the bolero bit later had to be deleted because of copy right BS. but what a song. sipping tea made form fresh morning glory flower seeds, eating one of those "special brownies" and toking on... what again? ha ha ha why a cigarette of course (don't believe that for a single moment)

  • muito foda!

  • The last photo is priceless. Legendary.

  • listeners here are sure to flock to the bieber movie

  • Good God , I wore out this song , but it never gets old . Genius !

  • iam 59 and i still love it.

  • just like Ringo is my favorite Beatle Joe was always my favorite Eagle.

guess there's a reason why Joe is in Ringo's all~star band.

  • The sun just came out....thanks for posting

  • The sun just came out....nice

  • Ever hear this on classic rock? NO! 'cause it's real, gritty and HARD! No sissy-fied stuff here.................JAM!

  • 1 of the best songs i've ever heard, guitar playing makes my mind wonder..the good old day's..Wish i could've seen these guy's in concert..love the james gang..

  • @dorfmn It was my first concert and I couldn't have picked a better band. It was '72 or '73. Festival seating. The Band was unbelievable. It sounded pretty much the same as what your hearing (the true sign of talent). I remember the band up on stage and all the smoke from the bongs & joints that you could see in the stage lighting. It was like a fog. It's such a clear memory to me. The whole song was great but my fav part and most distinct memory is from 1:43 thru 5:53. God it was great.

  • Websters Dictionary defines the word 'riff' as.......

  • Holly shit!!! i've fallen in Love.

  • good!! Ravel's bolero wake up .

  • good!!

  • and we can't keep this cattle on my ranches, oh!

    OOOOOH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAH YEAH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • one of the intricate songs EVER ! With a mixture of chords and lead guitar . And thanks all , for the words , I didn't know all of them. If it still sounds good , even though you don't know the words , that's a good song ! I knew enough of them , but now it's just even better !!!!!!!!!

  • Fu*kin bad azz tune!

  • tancowny (:

  • ATTN: flashback whoa got love these guys, i'm gonna hav 2 play several more of their tunes joes way 2 kool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember getting there greatest hits and thinking dayum there are so many good tunes on this that I had never heard b4!

  • Epic Classic Rock and Roll.......Republicans can never take away the Rock and Roll we had back in the Real Hippy Days

  • @kellythesinger

    No they can't.

  • It's a miracle you're still alive Kurki but keep doing so.

  • Nice job Libertine62

  • great!! suena genial el bolero de Ravel!!

  • great!!

  • I've worn this song out! No, I take that back, it's not possible. This rules!

  • where "THE TANCOWNY" when u need him !?!?!?!

  • @girlMccrail Hahah most people here dont even know what your talking about man

  • @girlMccrail HELL YEAH !!! WALSH RULES!!!!

  • very good improvi Bolero - Bolin

  • @bond00777777 Except this is Joe Walsh playing and not Tommy Bolin. Rides again is the 2nd JG LP. Joe walked away after Thirds.

Tommy Bolin didn't join the JG until three recordings later, beginning with Bang in 1973.

  • @TruthAxe thanks for the information

  • @bond00777777 Hey cool man, no sweat. It's cool always to come across others like you who dig good music like the James Gang.

  • a tie between Ted and Joe for prez!....lol could ya just see it?

  • ahhh..takes me back to yesteryear..when the rock was almost as heavy as the acid...awesome post!!

  • This is the best song. Period. Whether you're filled with booze, pot, or even nothing at all.

  • @ThePizzaDudererer I´m filled with a mix of everything I could find: crack, speed, heroin, pot, ice, cocaine, even some glue, gasoline and insecticide... I call this thing "Dana´s ass" because it makes me feel just like my ex formar girlfriends ass, and it´s great.... drugs are awesome!!!!

  • this song could perfectly fit in a led zeppelin album

  • @Cheskoslavia, just before I saw your comment I added it to my Led Zeppelin early core playlist. It's that same time/era and similar feel. Back when rock was gushing with soul.

  • If you throw out "Turn To Stone" there is nothing better.

  • Joe and the Gang!! I admit I have never done drugs... but this is still great - classic!!

  • This version wasn't released in Canada or the U.K. at the time -- the version of the song was more refined on that vinyl, but still quite the piece of work.

  • Released in 1970 by three midwestern boys -- heavy, basic riff, delicate middle, and done with 1970 technology.

    Still a memorable listen ....

  • How cool hard rock was before those stoopid british bands ruined everything!

  • @holybear LED ZEP WAS THE SHIT!

  • @airsoftloverusp An excellent group of thieves ;>

I'm thinking more of later bands though, like Saxon and Iron Maiden.

  • @holybear Really no love for Iron Maiden?

  • @NewbiusMaximus

    None.

It's like the man said: Heavy Metal is a pose, Hard Rock is a lifestyle.

  • @holybear Yea but IM got a good sound to them well a few songs.

  • @NewbiusMaximus

They're good players, but they are so darn silly!

  • SOOOOOOO underrated!!!!!!

  • As a tribute to Joe Walsh and James Gang, it would be cool for U2 to play this song live. Joe was already using the delay back then.

  • I think perhaps a musician who made a mistake was Sammy Hagar joining Van Halen. He was great playing guitar and singing and I'm talking before the Weboritas. If you had seen him before as I did you might be thinking, "what is he doing?"

  • Too many people referencing drugs and cursing. Let me bring sanity to this. This is an innovative song which shows Joe was ahead of his time. Brillant design of the layers of music! A musicaal masterpiece.

  • Too many people referencing drugs and cursing. Let me bring sanity to this. This is an innovative song which shows Joe was ahead of his time. Brillant design of the layers of music!

  • Rock on Joe Walsh! And where the hell is my old James Gang Greatest Hits LP?

  • What an awesome song.....Walsh at his best!

  • For years I was dying to hear this with the Bolero section restored, and when I finally did about 10 years ago...Well sir, I don't like it! Prefer the edited version on my vinyl LP from back in the day

  • Joe Walsh should write a book. I would buy it.

  • RE: "Victim of Love.": Victim Of Love - The Eagles [Los Angeles, California] - 1976 - "One of their FINER rocking songs that didn't make the charts. Lots of power guitar riffs." - Greatests Hits Vol. 2 (Asylum)-1982. NOTE: He's earlier incarnations are quite good. :-)

  • sounds really really similar to black sabbath

  • Before Joe Walsh went out on his own he was with James Gang. The Bomber - James Gang [Wichita, Kansas] - 1969 - "An outstanding rocker with some great guitar HOOKS by Joe Walsh. As good as Led Zeppelin would do during this period. Good first impression." - The Definitive Collection (Geffen)-2006.

  • yo @skbricker walsh didnt write the guitar for hotel california. don felder did

  • This aint hard, but I love "Life of Illusion"

  • James Gang Forever-Thats Joe -Cleveland still rocks for Joe

  • I'm with you TP. Oh man. If I could go back I would. I guess that's why we live it through the music."There" is in the mind. Take it with you as you go.

  • You rule. This song rules. Thanks for all your uploads.

  • Perfect.

  • My personal pick for the all-time best rock number of all time....

  • @Patriot1862 it's up there for sure man.

  • God, it's been years since I've heard this.

  • @PeterMayer Welcome back to having BALLS, JAMES GANG WOOOOOOOOOOO

you wanna go wreck something to this?

  • Wow. I'm glad i'm not the only one who wonders whatever possed Joe Walsh to join The Eagles. His talent was/is completely wasted on them.

  • @trophyloaf Yeah he had to move on!! listen to hotel cali-thats Joe

  • @trophyloaf I absolutely agree. Joe Walsh is a fucking GOD and why he would want to walk amongst wankers like the Eagles I don't know. His music fueled my days of surfing, offroading, and LSD adventures...wonderful times...wonderful people, wonderful music.

  • It's sunny, 82 deg, October 10/9/10, not a cloud in the skies. This song is blasting out of my speakers and at 4:10 I realized I'm in another state of mind. This song can take you there - let it. Joe Walsh is talented! This is a message to Joe Walsh - take all your money from your Eagles tours and go back to the studio for a solo album. Our music industry needs it! Joe Walsh, please do this...
