I think you should make a spreadsheet of the total community cost to pick up the mail and also show by household cost.
A thought: would a volunteer even be permitted, legally, to act as "pony express" and collect mail for the community? Even a volunteer would still have the time and travel expense.
BTW - I think the math did work (for them) they were looking at the total operating costs over ten years. No Building Maint = $0, no utilites = $0, etc. minus the one time cost of relocation ($11K) and minus 10 years of rent (at approx $4K /year as if they were keeping the building? or the cost to get out of the lease?) So it cost USPS +/- $90k/yr? to operate Blocksburg PO based on EAS Craft and Labor. From quick Google that line appears to include mandatory training, vehicles- not certain.
Great job Kristin! I live in a suburb west of Boston and we have 10 -14 Post Offices. They plan to close one that I'm aware of. I would gladly vote to close two or more in order to save your Post Office!
