I bet there is some emotional hormone that controls the sense of awareness and reality during sleep when the parasympathetic nervous system is active (read: when you digest food or sleep) and it causes us to think we are awake when we aren't, hence the notion "is this a dream."
If you wake from your near-death experience and you have either slept for several hours or it's bright outside, it is probably just a common nightmare. The "seeing your body" thing is a Medieval belief found in movies.
@TheLifeAfterDeath100 Of course I have no experience in playing dead. I'm so old that I could die for real at any moment.
Don't say you died. You'll just contradict yourself considering the fact that the dead do not talk. If I were you, I would discard that memory immediately. It is the experiences like that that turn common men into psychopaths, dwelling in them weakens the grip to the reality.
It's most probably a side effect of some natural, biological phenomenon.
@TheLifeAfterDeath100 To me it would be a far more tolerable situation than one where I spend my whole life fearing things that probably aren't there like the fear itself. Even if there were something unexplainable, I would make it my quest to find a guy who can explain it.
Cheer up, dude. Go out and karate kick a squirrel and capitalize the only life you have. Death is just a moment that we actually never experience. It's the fear of dying that we can feel, it's pointless.
When I was about 5 I had an out of body experience.I was in the bottom bed of the bunkbeds in our room, I remember being able to see myself sleeping in the bed. I could see the nightdress I was wearing,my little table next2me with my cup on.my viewpoint was from the corner of the ceiling. What freakd me out was I could see out of my bedroom door from the ceiling, and outside my door was a big, black, dog.I dont know wtf it was doing there! Loads of freaky things happen to people on the edge of death....My grandad knew when he was about to die...because his wifes (my grandma) mother actually appeared to him and told him she was there to collect him. My gran was next to him as it happened and asked 'what does she want?' and he replied 'She has come for me.'
Scary! especially as it was coming from an athiest! My Aunt is at this very second, dying of cancer in hospital, but I know she'll be fine cuz my grrandad will come to get her. x
I am Christian and a scientist (but that's another story). But whether my beliefs are right makes no difference to me from a fear-of-death perspective. Yes, I am afraid of the discomfort and pain of dying, but not of being dead.Everybody has a point of view, and for some reason this one point of view happens to feel like mine and me. Since that's presumably the same for everyone, when my brain stops functioning that illusion will arise again in another body, with no perceivable gap or memory.
This is not the same as reincarnation - it would be a separate point of view arising from a separate brain, which would, as every live human brain does, carry the sense of being 'my' point of view and 'me'. And the 'me' would be totally different because it is a totally different brain and therefore a totally different point of view.
@hannahthehiccup It's ok to be skeptical, it doesn't mean that you're being mean, it means you're still open minded. The mean spirited comments are just from ignorant folks, makes not difference.

@MrEbonyice They don't want the AFTERLIFE to be TRUE. That's the thing! There are folks right now in this world if a SPIRIT appeared before them, they would swear to themselves that they were "tripping" or "buzzed" even though they don't get high nor drink! Only because they WANT TO DESPERATELY BELIEVE THAT THE AFTERLIFE IS NOT REAL. I agree with something Bill O'Reilly said once: "It takes more faith to be an unbeliever." :) This is the TRUTH. These things are real! :)
@reet12337 Why? Bill O'Reilly is no worse than the folks (I suppose) you look up to (possibly) Bill Maher and John Stewart. I am not even a major fan of Bill O'Reilly --his show is interesting, but I can't say that I am a "fan." He's alright. But, what he said about FAITH and how it takes MORE FAITH TO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD than to believe in GOD, is the truth. Unbelievers you guys are hoping against hope that God is not real, so you can feel comfortable that you wont face HIM
@reet12337 And, that you wont have to give in account for your SINS and the way you live in this life. GOD IS EVER PRESENT AND REAL, but to the unbeliever you guys purposely close your eyes, your hearts, your ears and your minds to GOD, when HE IS RIGHT THERE, HIS WORK IS RIGHT THERE. But, you exercise (blind) faith to DISBELIEVE and chalk up the "unexplainable" as simply that, instead of really digging the obvious. This life is fleeting, GOD lets us see THE SPIRITUAL everyday to remind us.
@LPATWILLFILM What makes you so certain of this? It's all tradition.. your father/mother was a christian etc. The bible is fucking disgusting anyway. It's just a book of fucking pure hatred and has no place in a modern society. Why not Jew? Muslim? Not so different so explain why you go with Christianity?
@reet12337 LOL!!! I love how you Atheists or Agnostics are so arrogant to really THINK that the reason
True CHRISTIANS believe is because what our Mom or Dad or Pastor or Church "taught" yet, many of you came from these same or similar "settings" and yet, you DON'T BELIEVE. Lol!!!:) How arrogant! No, sir... I BELIEVE BECAUSE I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE LOVE, POWER AND MOVE OF GOD IN MY LIFE. I know He is REAL! Because I KNOW He is! JESUS CHRIST IS LORD and HE IS ALIVE & WELL. :) And...
@reet12337 ISLAM is nothing like Christianity... Allah is NOT THE TRUE LIVING GOD. Allah may be the "god" of the Muslims, but Allah is NOT the GOD of THE JEW OR THE CHRISTIAN -- OUR GOD IS JEHOVAH YAHWEH. My Jewish brothers many of them are blind to YESHUA ADONAI (THE LORD JESUS CHRIST) HA' MASHIACH. but many of my Jewish brothers are opening their eyes to THE ONE TRUE & ONLY MESSIAH - THE LORD JESUS CHRIST and soon Jerusalem will say: "Blessed is He That Comes IN THE NAME OF THE LORD. "
@reet12337 THE BIBLE IS THE PERFECT LAW OF LIBERTY. IT IS TRUTH. IT IS POWER. IT IS JUDGEMENT (that's the part you hate and yet, call "hatred" but GOD IS HOLY and judges SIN, only SINNERS find God's Word to be "hateful" because it requires you to "exchange" your life for a NEW LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS. It requires you to humble yourself and submit to God's Will and Way of "doing things" and not "seeking your own will and way." GOD'S WORD -- THE BIBLE IS THE ULTIMATE BOOK OF LOVE. :)
@LPATWILLFILM Stop capitalizing your words, it makes you look inconsistent and insecure.
Looking at your comments, it reminds me why I don't like O'Reilly and his numerous colleagues: he makes shit up as he goes. He acts like he knows more than he actually does and seldom stops to reason his claims. His speeches are nothing because he cannot reason them any other way than implying that he simply knows things.
Don't do O'Reilly's: speak things in a simple way. Let your god fight his own battles.
@MrEbonyice First of all, I don't know if your "dad's spirit returned" but, certainly a "spirit" sent you a message on that day. THE SPIRIT WORLD IS REAL. :) HEAVEN, HELL, GOD, JESUS, ANGELS, SATAN, BEELZEBUB, DEMONS... This stuff is 100% Real Deal Stuff! We ourselves ARE SPIRITS. But, the reason folks" right everything off" these are the folks that are hoping against hope that their atheistic and agnostic and scientific "beliefs" are TRUE and that an AFTERLIFE is not true. They don't want
its strange world we live in thousands of people report of nde and no one belives them yet two people can send a man to jail for life in court as wintnesses and they belive them i to left my body many times and i dont care if any one belives me or not
I can't wait until the day I die. My life is that miserable. I hate my loser parents. They're useless. I hate my spouse who is unsupportive and selfish. I hate my job. My boss likes to crack the whip. I hate my co-workers who are intrusive and wants to get me fired. I hate the cop who gave me a $500 ticket for driving without car insurance. I hate being broke and struggling to survive.
Of course there are no "souls" or afterlives, they're just inventions of ancient superstious people. Now we know that consciousness is made biochemically in the brain, and that our lives end when that biochemistry ends. Sad,maybe, but there's nothing we can do to change that. We can just live happily and try to live as long as possible by exercising, eating healthy food and so on: )
@MrEbonyice Thank you for sharing that. 2 yrs after my grandmother died, I moved to California. She always loved butterflies. I was on the phone with my mom sharing my new experiences with San Francisco. Mind you, this conversation happened on Mother's Day. As I was on the phone, in the middle of downtown SF, this huge beautiful monarch butterfly flew over me & sat in front of this coffee shop I was at. I immediately told my mom, & she asked, "Is it yellow & black"? I said, "Yea"!
@thedeathskittle -- when you listen to your radio or watch your TV is the programming "products of the machine" or being received from the broadcasting stations? Memories do not exist in one place in the brain; they exist -- according to many scientists -- everywhere and nowhere in the brain. That sounds more like "energy" than "biology."
@dmhewey But wouldn't it be better to scientifically study and analyze the brain instead of making uneducated conjectures about the complexity of our brains neural networking? Science doesn't claim to know everything, but at least it is looking for answers. Also, could you just link me to the scientists who made these claims? I'd like to read their studies.
what a fuken wide load of shit how many ppl have nde and say the same old fucked up story that they all saw a fuken light yet not many ppl see hell and those that do see hell claim is a place of so called fire others clam its darkeness u dont see anything and all this bullshit LOOK ppl when u die u die as 4 nde heaven and hell i belive its all fuken man made shit 2 make u feel that there is a purpose 2 life the same with god and jesus ppl write it we belive it
@MrCrazyh81 lol you are fucking retarded, nde's have nothing to do with religion besides the fact that its part of the "afterlife". nde's are real and proven, EVERY single person that has died and been resuscitated has reported these sightings. learn more before you open your dumb ass mouth
I think cross cultural studies on NDE's are illuminating. How do people experience NDE's in other parts of the world? From those anecdotes, we see that there are some similarities, but there are actually more differences. Sometimes, people see their own gods. Sometimes, there is a god reading a list of the things they've done in life. Sometimes they see a temple. So we have to be careful when saying that NDEs are evidence of an afterlife because they're influenced by our cultures and beliefs.
@animals0feel1pain2 but not in all cases, that's the confusing part. young children's experiences don't even know about god or stories from their religion, then after their experience have all these incredible facts and data...from where? then there are those blind ppl that see whats going on while dead &ppl are shocked at the accuracy... when in deed blind ppl actually dream without vision also. i have examined many different ndes. it's still a mystery.
Minds without bodies are really cruel and often insane. they don't know what age they look like, they only know what age they feel they don't cherish the lives of people who have not died.
i am an agnostic - at least i think i am. id prefer to not have any title, but i dont belong in the theists and the antitheists groups. ive tried to be a believer but if a big part of you is unsure how do you ignore that? you cant lie to yourself. but saying that i could never take the position of an atheist. atheists to me are just opposites of believers. they seem too hellbent on discrediting the theists. stupid, i know. an atheist disagreeing with a theist, sounds crazy.
@manicmanuk everyone has doubts, thats normal. ppl dont always admit that because they try to stay positive and focused. thats why we read, do research, determine our opinion for it and we are entitled to believe what we want...whether it's right or wrong.. i ask myself "Is it fulfilling..is it true..do i feel in my heart that this/these belief/beliefs is the right way to live my life & treat others based off my view?" . They say it's all about the love we share for eachother.. no matter what!
I am willing to bet that most people who are hard core into religion, are that way because they are worried about what happens when they die and want to stack the deck in their favor. Classic little children out look of life. "If I do this, I get rewarded" They need to be studying the science of NDE.
if everything is made of matter and energy ,there probably is no supernatural and everything is relative ,no heaven no hell.however if there is a god who created laws of nature it is possible to have miracle and heaven and hell.
according to thermodynamix secind law ,energy cannot be created nor destroyed,it simply change the form
so where all there energy which created billions of billions of stars and everything came from first place?
@minamikaze777 what has that to do with anything? There are so many NDEs disproven. Also people often see different things. Depending on their religious views. It suggests it has something to do with memory and not a real afterlife.
@minamikaze777 well ye its probably true that not all of them are lying. But why does this mean the experience was real? And not just a vivid dream caused by some random neurons that are active just when you die?
And ps with your second law of thermo dynamics , wouldnt it be measurable if theres a sudden increase is lots of energy?
@minamikaze777 not for most people. Seriously, how many people do you know that plan much beyond their next vacation? There is also an element of mental laziness involved. Way easier to put in your hour a week at the church where you get massive social approval, then to study the science and go your own way. I am sorry to the deeply religious people out there, but if I line up everyone I know who has put the time in to study NDE and the history of religions, none now attend church.
@NathanJohnVolk that might only be your opinion, there are ppl who are not scarred of death that have and don't have religion.. and its not because they "think" they're going to be saved by God. Everyone's different. SoME people want purpose or meaning.. some are just curious... some just want to be a better person & are looking to find their way
@aNichole88 and none have done any homework about the factual history of their chosen religion. I know because when I bring it up, they shout me down using the same argument they always use when facts are sought: Faith. That's wonderful but don't blame non-religious people for stating their thoughts on religious people when that sort of discussion gets repeated over and again between the two.
@NathanJohnVolk oi muppet my 5 year old daughter had a ned we are not religious and never told her about no fking creator .and we belive in evolution .that girl of mine came back told me what ring my nan had on she said hi what my uncle was called and the name of my dog when i was 6 .never been mentioned not even to my wife no one but she knew all this explain how she knew albert einstein ? explain to me that .
@mrricksta30 On a slightly different note, why should belief in a creator, and belief in evolution be mutually exclusive? Millions of educated, intelligent and literate people believe in both!
Thank you for posting this video. It is a pleasure to watch quality research- BBC. I also am fascinated with the tv show "I SURVIVED BEYOND AND BACK" on the Biography Channel. I believe there is life after we die; that this is all temporary and that we should be learning to get back to our true self.
@deanmullen10 Eternity is eternity. Eternal nothing never preceded life. There was no 'before' life & thus there will never be an 'after' life. Existence is not evidence of a beginning. Existence never began :) Thus, it can never end. Something which does not begin and does not end is eternal. It is precisely what it is. The eternal illusion of beginnings and endings is inherent perfection. There is one happening, ever-new, ever-fresh and it is eternity, without beginning or end. You're it ~
This is my version of "heaven" for those who had NDE apart from Christ. It's a little space in spiritual dimension on earth. The spiritual beings are the devil and his demons dressed up as an angels. Why would they do this? Because Satan is a deceiver by nature from the beginning. He made those poor people believe that there's nothing to worry about, that they don't need Christ to go to heaven.
@SerJahPhoto Uhhh...Christ is a cultural thing, not a reality. If you were born in India or China, Christ would not be a part of your belief system. You THINK the only way into heaven is through Christ is because of your cultural conditioning. These people had a real and proven experience and it was a benevolent experience. No one can actually prove Christ exists, he is only a religious choice like Buddha or a Hindu god. Go peddle your paranoia somewhere else.
@cavedudebc come one, dude, I'm just saying what i believe, why would you make so much of a deal of it? Who cares what i or any other person believes? Or do you care of my soul?
Interesting thing. Why would some people from islam or hindu culture risk their lives and security becoming christians? It's because their experienced real Christ, who gives hope for better life.
@cavedudebc Yeah............ I think you forgot that prior to the 1800s, the existence of Christ has been a historical fact since his birth and death in the first century Christ's Era, or C.E. The fact that Christ is stated to be the only way to heaven is coherent in even the other religions as they still have the same near death experiences which equal 1 of two things: 1) Outer body experience, then tunnel of light, and seeing heavenly figures. 2) Outer Body experience, then hellish recourse.
@RMBVP Also, buddha is an atheist religion that has nothing to do with the afterlife but reaching "nirvana" within a person's own body. That was it's original intent by it's creator, Shakyamuni Buddha.
@RMBVP Not Buddhist but I know that is wrong. Buddha was Gutayma Buddha a man who was in search of peace and the creator. He did believe in a higher being and self discovery.
THIS WAS GREAT help for me. to show me something beautiful about death, with some sound medical evidence. My husband of 25 years killed himself a year ago, and I am in the pprocess of having to leave my home through foreclosure and I have no place to go. This video cheered me up.cindikrause45@yahoo.com
@TemplarX2 Present your evidence and I will listen to your case. However, as far as I see it, NDEs are not debunked in any form. We all know they happen. The real question is not whether or not they exist, but how they happen. In other words, we're back to where we started... the immortal question why.
@Disneythievesrock I'm mean NDE happens obviously but it's a process that neurological phenomenon rather than a supernatural one. That woman has a some evidence but read about the criticism too. These anecdotal evidence always seems extraordinary but upon further investigation a sharp mind is always disappointed.
Also, to everyone who says "we'll see whos right after were dead" thats like betting that the world wont end tommorow. If your right, you get to say I told you so, if your wrong were all dead. Im just pointing out empty bets. :P

I am not even a major fan of Bill O'Reilly --his show is interesting, but I can't say that I am a "fan." He's alright. But, what he said about FAITH and how it takes MORE FAITH TO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD than to believe in GOD, is the truth. Unbelievers you guys are hoping against hope that God is not real, so you can feel comfortable that you wont face HIM
LPATWILLFILM 3 months ago
LPATWILLFILM 3 months ago
@LPATWILLFILM What makes you so certain of this? It's all tradition.. your father/mother was a christian etc. The bible is fucking disgusting anyway. It's just a book of fucking pure hatred and has no place in a modern society. Why not Jew? Muslim? Not so different so explain why you go with Christianity?
reet12337 3 months ago
:) And...
LPATWILLFILM 3 months ago
LPATWILLFILM 3 months ago
LPATWILLFILM 3 months ago

I said, "Yea"!

thedeathskittle 8 months ago
@thedeathskittle -- when you listen to your radio or watch your TV is the programming "products of the machine" or being received from the broadcasting stations? Memories do not exist in one place in the brain; they exist -- according to many scientists -- everywhere and nowhere in the brain. That sounds more like "energy" than "biology."
dmhewey 7 months ago
@dmhewey But wouldn't it be better to scientifically study and analyze the brain instead of making uneducated conjectures about the complexity of our brains neural networking? Science doesn't claim to know everything, but at least it is looking for answers. Also, could you just link me to the scientists who made these claims? I'd like to read their studies.

So we have to be careful when saying that NDEs are evidence of an afterlife because they're influenced by our cultures and beliefs.
animals0feel1pain2 10 months ago
@animals0feel1pain2 but not in all cases, that's the confusing part. young children's experiences don't even know about god or stories from their religion, then after their experience have all these incredible facts and data...from where? then there are those blind ppl that see whats going on while dead &ppl are shocked at the accuracy... when in deed blind ppl actually dream without vision also. i have examined many different ndes. it's still a mystery.
aNichole88 10 months ago
Minds without bodies are really cruel and often insane. they don't know what age they look like, they only know what age they feel they don't cherish the lives of people who have not died.
DavidEdwardSchnell 11 months ago
i am an agnostic - at least i think i am. id prefer to not have any title, but i dont belong in the theists and the antitheists groups. ive tried to be a believer but if a big part of you is unsure how do you ignore that? you cant lie to yourself. but saying that i could never take the position of an atheist. atheists to me are just opposites of believers. they seem too hellbent on discrediting the theists. stupid, i know. an atheist disagreeing with a theist, sounds crazy.
manicmanuk 11 months ago

NathanJohnVolk 11 months ago 2
@NathanJohnVolk i think the truth is deeper than that.
if everything is made of matter and energy ,there probably is no supernatural and everything is relative ,no heaven no hell.however if there is a god who created laws of nature it is possible to have miracle and heaven and hell.
according to thermodynamix secind law ,energy cannot be created nor destroyed,it simply change the form
so where all there energy which created billions of billions of stars and everything came from first place?
minamikaze777 11 months ago
@minamikaze777 Wont know unless you have an NDE or OBE imo.
sonic619760 11 months ago
@sonic619760 we cannot see "oxgen" but overwhelming evidence suggest it exist.
for same reason i do believe NDE.
minamikaze777 10 months ago
@minamikaze777 what has that to do with anything? There are so many NDEs disproven. Also people often see different things. Depending on their religious views. It suggests it has something to do with memory and not a real afterlife.
slash3rr 9 months ago
@slash3rr you missed the point.
to believe thing you got to examine the evidence right ?
yes some NDE stories would be just made-up story or a dream but that doen't make all the NDEs are wrong.
there are overwhelming evidence that suggest many NDEs are true and cannot explain othewise.
you cannot just eliminate a part that does't support your opinion.
minamikaze777 9 months ago
@minamikaze777 well ye its probably true that not all of them are lying. But why does this mean the experience was real? And not just a vivid dream caused by some random neurons that are active just when you die?
And ps with your second law of thermo dynamics , wouldnt it be measurable if theres a sudden increase is lots of energy?
slash3rr 9 months ago
@minamikaze777 not for most people. Seriously, how many people do you know that plan much beyond their next vacation? There is also an element of mental laziness involved. Way easier to put in your hour a week at the church where you get massive social approval, then to study the science and go your own way. I am sorry to the deeply religious people out there, but if I line up everyone I know who has put the time in to study NDE and the history of religions, none now attend church.
NathanJohnVolk 10 months ago
@minamikaze777 It came from somewhere we just don't know it yet. Have you heard of multiverses theory?
fhofho00 10 months ago
@fhofho00
yes i have however there is no evidence that makes me believe that asumption.
but i am open minded for any possibility.
minamikaze777 10 months ago
@NathanJohnVolk that might only be your opinion, there are ppl who are not scarred of death that have and don't have religion.. and its not because they "think" they're going to be saved by God. Everyone's different. SoME people want purpose or meaning.. some are just curious... some just want to be a better person & are looking to find their way
aNichole88 11 months ago
@aNichole88 and none have done any homework about the factual history of their chosen religion. I know because when I bring it up, they shout me down using the same argument they always use when facts are sought: Faith. That's wonderful but don't blame non-religious people for stating their thoughts on religious people when that sort of discussion gets repeated over and again between the two.
NathanJohnVolk 10 months ago

You exist
You were created
You can be destroyed
If eternal nothing came after the destruction then every possibility must come true in this eternity.
One possibility is creation because eternal nothing preeceded life and creation followed this nothing thus it is possible.
And every possibility must occur within eternity thus within the eternity after life the possibility of creation
of life must re-emerge
deanmullen10 1 year ago
@deanmullen10 Eternity is eternity. Eternal nothing never preceded life. There was no 'before' life & thus there will never be an 'after' life. Existence is not evidence of a beginning. Existence never began :) Thus, it can never end. Something which does not begin and does not end is eternal. It is precisely what it is. The eternal illusion of beginnings and endings is inherent perfection. There is one happening, ever-new, ever-fresh and it is eternity, without beginning or end. You're it ~
SpiritSkin 1 year ago
This is my version of "heaven" for those who had NDE apart from Christ. It's a little space in spiritual dimension on earth. The spiritual beings are the devil and his demons dressed up as an angels. Why would they do this? Because Satan is a deceiver by nature from the beginning. He made those poor people believe that there's nothing to worry about, that they don't need Christ to go to heaven.
SerJahPhoto 1 year ago
@SerJahPhoto Uhhh...Christ is a cultural thing, not a reality. If you were born in India or China, Christ would not be a part of your belief system. You THINK the only way into heaven is through Christ is because of your cultural conditioning. These people had a real and proven experience and it was a benevolent experience. No one can actually prove Christ exists, he is only a religious choice like Buddha or a Hindu god. Go peddle your paranoia somewhere else.

Interesting thing. Why would some people from islam or hindu culture risk their lives and security becoming christians? It's because their experienced real Christ, who gives hope for better life.

ufee 1 year ago

TemplarX2 1 year ago
@TemplarX2 Present your evidence and I will listen to your case. However, as far as I see it, NDEs are not debunked in any form. We all know they happen. The real question is not whether or not they exist, but how they happen. In other words, we're back to where we started... the immortal question why.
Disneythievesrock 11 months ago
@Disneythievesrock I'm mean NDE happens obviously but it's a process that neurological phenomenon rather than a supernatural one. That woman has a some evidence but read about the criticism too. These anecdotal evidence always seems extraordinary but upon further investigation a sharp mind is always disappointed.
