When I was truck driving, we would call out on the CB to let any other trucker that was going the other way know we were on the bridge. At the bridge span, there is only 20' clearance, and 2 semi's are 10' wide each at the mirrors. There have been many mirrors slapped over the years on this bridge, and the other one in Cairo.

There are 2 of these bridges near Aurora & Canton, Ky. One of the name of the bridge(s) is "Eggner's Ferry Bridge" and they built in 1932 during the depression and U.S. 68 & S.H. 80 crosses the Tennessee River there in Ky. Explains why they are so narrow. I so love going over these old bridges because they are alot of fun as well as historic. I live near Morgan City La. and the Long-Allen Bridge that old U.S. 90 crosses built in 1933, is alot like that.

If you wanna talk about a dangerous bridge, look at the Stillwater Lift Bridge in Minnesota. They say that the 35W bridge collapsed because of rusted gusset plates. Well our damn bridge has gusset plates rusted completely through, is it gonna take another collapse for MN to get the clue?

we HAD a bridge like that here. there was a lot of debate as to weither it needed to be repaired or removed.

One night a drunk ended the debate. He crashed on the bridge and it collapsed. The sections were moved to places where bridges needed replacement. The shortend spans were more than strong enough to the job, not having to hold up so much weight. In actuallity they were overengineered for their new placement. I sandblasted and painted the sections, the rust was unbelieveable :P

The same type of bridge I used to cross over the Scioto river (Fishinger Road Bridge). Two-way traffic so tight I kept my arm inside the window. They finally replaced it with a nice 4 lane bridge.

There are two more bridges just like this one. Run US60 west out of Paducah Ky into Missouri. Bridge from KY to IL over the ohio river then a left turn to do it again over the MS river. Try it in a big rig with another rig coming at you.

The most decrepit bridge I have ever been on was Moon Island RD that turns into Long Island RD in Quincy Massachusetts. The bridge honestly scared the hell out of me. There is a guard checkpoint to get out there if you have a need to go. I think there is a guard so they can keep track of the few cars that use it in case one goes missing. Literally big parts of the support structure were lying off to the side of each bridge. You can see where they fell off and dented the road.
