@chrisallenky I would of liked to traveled over this, but NO some careless boat has to TRASH IT. It took out a great portion of it. I feel the whole thing will have to be demolished to be re-built. Bummer!
The only thing scary is the visibilty. Although old and narrow the bridge appears okay. I didn't notice any shaking or structural noises, perhaps the speaker is just nervous in this situation?
When I was truck driving, we would call out on the CB to let any other trucker that was going the other way know we were on the bridge. At the bridge span, there is only 20' clearance, and 2 semi's are 10' wide each at the mirrors. There have been many mirrors slapped over the years on this bridge, and the other one in Cairo.
@FCA1975 Uhm Not all is rednecks i live there and i dont claim to be one, Just be cause the econemy is low and pwoplw that are poor in KY Doesent Mean Its RedNecks , But you dont have to worry cause you probaly live in NY Are CA Where you dont have yo worry.
There are 2 of these bridges near Aurora & Canton, Ky. One of the name of the bridge(s) is "Eggner's Ferry Bridge" and they built in 1932 during the depression and U.S. 68 & S.H. 80 crosses the Tennessee River there in Ky. Explains why they are so narrow. I so love going over these old bridges because they are alot of fun as well as historic. I live near Morgan City La. and the Long-Allen Bridge that old U.S. 90 crosses built in 1933, is alot like that.
There are two of those identical to each other. One goes over Kentucky Lake, and the other goes over Lake Barkley...or however you spell it. And yes, they are both very narrow.
Rumour has been comming over to the UK, That Bush had been slack with the state infrastructure of the USA, Letting things slide, In order to fund Iraq, And all that other bullshit, Widening the schedule on bridge maintenance is a obvious target to save Money ( If you can call it that ) Of course, American nationals with payout either way in the long run, But, I`m sure he was well aware of that
A rickity-ol'-bridge, rusted and crumbling is good enough for yer. War and death is the important thing for United States citizens. What you need a bridge for anyways? You ain't going nowhere in this country. This country's a goner.
It's very narrow, and very long, but nothing's wrong with it! You should slow down on narrow roads! especially on bridges! You would be going soo fast, that you would have NO time to react to a danger! Just somethin to take in consideration!
If you wanna talk about a dangerous bridge, look at the Stillwater Lift Bridge in Minnesota. They say that the 35W bridge collapsed because of rusted gusset plates. Well our damn bridge has gusset plates rusted completely through, is it gonna take another collapse for MN to get the clue?
@FFbosmoe I think Minnesota is runnig out of money because nothing is getting fixed, MN 34 between Detroit lakes and Park Rapids is falling apart to the point of pavement being gone and all they did was put up a 40MPH bump sign and some flags.
@793h I wish that were the case, it would make it easier to swallow. Instead, it gets blocked over and over again by the Sierra Club, a bunch of rich politicians who live in Washington. They start to move on replacing the bridge and they file a lawsuit to stop it, "protecting the scenic riverway".
Well, if uploading a video you do have somehow make people participating in whatever was the got your interest. Here you do not see a single thing. Fail.
we HAD a bridge like that here. there was a lot of debate as to weither it needed to be repaired or removed.
One night a drunk ended the debate. He crashed on the bridge and it collapsed. The sections were moved to places where bridges needed replacement. The shortend spans were more than strong enough to the job, not having to hold up so much weight. In actuallity they were overengineered for their new placement. I sandblasted and painted the sections, the rust was unbelieveable :P
The same type of bridge I used to cross over the Scioto river (Fishinger Road Bridge). Two-way traffic so tight I kept my arm inside the window. They finally replaced it with a nice 4 lane bridge.
Yeah I know that bridge. Its out on LBL. If you think that's scary, drive up to Paducah and drive across the Brookport bridge. You can see through the deck because it's just metal grating..
There are two more bridges just like this one. Run US60 west out of Paducah Ky into Missouri. Bridge from KY to IL over the ohio river then a left turn to do it again over the MS river. Try it in a big rig with another rig coming at you.

The most decrepit bridge I have ever been on was Moon Island RD that turns into Long Island RD in Quincy Massachusetts. The bridge honestly scared the hell out of me. There is a guard checkpoint to get out there if you have a need to go. I think there is a guard so they can keep track of the few cars that use it in case one goes missing. Literally big parts of the support structure were lying off to the side of each bridge. You can see where they fell off and dented the road.
there was a bridge like that where i live...u always felt like your were gonna sideswipe a car and there was a lot of boken side mirrors on the ground...but they tore it down and built a new one
Yeah.. i went accross that bridge a couple months ago... was kinda neat to see it... it is very very narrow... and my bother-in-law has drove a semi accross there wile hauling a combine... so it is possible. He just followed Hwy 51 out of Tennessee all the way up there to the bridge and then over the rivers to missouri
