Wow, that was a really good review. You pretty much got everything right (you see, though this movie has been my favorite of the summer, i new there were some flaws but couldn't really list them all out). Once again, I loved this movie, and I think Christian Bale makes an excellent Connor, but i just hope the next one will have more depth and character development than this one.
there was some bad acting, it was sure to disapoint some diehard fans, and they didnt freaking end it yet, which means now theres a nother movie that prob gunna end up as another sequel
Umm.. At least put a spoiler alert? You might have just ruined the movie for someone. I in no way felt attached to Marcus. From my PoV he was just another cliche bad ass who shot everything with almost no character development. I wasn't saddened in the last when he died. Not like in T2 with the T800
I just don't like how he judges movies by the previews, but maby its just his hypothesis, I'm going to see this movie this weekend, i'll decide weather its either just as good as the first two or even better, but im positive it will beat the 3rd one, because that movie was horrible.
Um? He judges the movie by the preview just to help people get a basic idea if he thinks the movie will be good. I like what he does with it, it is in no way "judging a book by it's cover" because he goes more in depth with it and actually most of his guesses about movies from their reviews are right.
Mr. MPC, unfortunately, this movie lacked A LOT. it also seems that, regardless of anyone's opinion of T3, T3 actually had more of a coherent story telling than TS.
please do a movie review and highlight things you thought when watching TS.
Yes I payed to see the movie but still, the audience will et a D grade if this movie rosses over 200M$
one problem i had with T3 was the simple "no you did not changed the future, you only delayed it" that makes these movie's possible. with different writting T2 could still be the end of the war, and these movie's where prequels set before the time travel plot. kind of like how in the planet of the ape series. movie 2 end the story but movie 3-4-5 are set before it showing how the world of movie 1 came to be.
This movie was terrible. It's a shame Bale made such an ass out of himself for such a shitty project. Totally not worth it when looking at his one note performance.
Sure, two action scenes were pretty good (opening attack, robot/motorcycle chase), but the the rest was dreadful. And how the hell was there only one robot protecting Skynet from Conner?? How the hell is Conner a prophet? He doesn't do shit. What the fuck this movie's retarded.
For all its fualts the absolute worst part of T3 (and the part that I cannot forgive it for) was when Claire Danes' shouted at the Feminator "Why don't you just die, bitch!"
Seriously it absolutely ruined the movie for me, which was already pissing me off. That line just sealed that movies fate though.
I understand if T4 was a disapointment to some but nothing can top the horrible dialogue in T3.
True, and there's no denying that. But that "why don't you just die bitch" line from T3 would be a bad line even if it were used in a horrible Freddy vs Jason movie (and oh wait it was, and it was terrible then too).
That's just a stupid line, and I don't know how anyone can be paid to write crap like that.
T4 did have very "pedestrian" dialogue as well too though.
Over all I really liked the move. The only problem that I had was that they needed more character development, but not too much just a little because you do care for the characters but just not as much as the T1 or the T2. If they had given more character development, I am positives that this would have been just as good as the first or even better but not as good as the T2.
Comparing it with the all of the Terminators movies Id put it as better the T3 & almost as good as T1.
If a Machine war actually happened, Id probrobly be the only human fighting with machines...well, my friend would probrobly fight with the machines too!
8.5 out of 10 - quality as popcorn movie. Special effects were pretty cool and the movie looked great.
5 out of 10 - quality as science fiction. It had an Independence Day kinda dumbing down of the material...perhaps to appease the junior high demographic.
6 out of 10 overall: Recommended for CGI lovers. If you're mainly into the James Cameron/Ridley Scott school of intelligent sci-fi and not easily pleased...then stay away.
In the next Terminator movie, I hope they (a) change their overall approach with John Connor and perhaps replacing Christian Bale with someone else (b) create a more focused script (c) give more screen time to Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese (d) fire McG and give the movie to a sci-fi/fantasy up-and-comer...like a younger version of James Cameron or Peter Jackson. He has to be visionary, fearless, and has enough ego ("balls") to tell his cast to shut the hell up and listen to him.
As for Christian Bale, I don't believe he expressed enough inner conflict in terms of carrying the burden of being the savior of the human race. And also he didn't exude the right amount of charisma to make the audience root for him as John Connor. Actors like Leonardo diCaprio and an older Anton Yelchin could have pulled that feat off. Put it this way, if Linda Hamilton's and Michael Biehn's characters had a child...who would they grow up to be. In my opinion, definitely not Christian Bale.
In the right hands, they could have made Marcus Wright's story into a thought-provoking Philip K. Dick story in terms of what truly defines us as human. His story provided the true intrigue of the movie and they copped out to kissing Christian Bale's Dark Knight ass.
To add on Anton Yelchin's performance, it make one feels as if he belonged in a much better Terminator movie. You could also make the argument that if he was 10 years older, he would have made a great John Connor.
I'll just say this...the movie had flashes of great potential like (a) the story arc of Marcus Wright (b) the performance of Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese (c) standout action scenes like the helicopter battle scene with John Connor and the 'Road Warrior' chase scene with Marcus Wright (d) introduction of the T-800.
After watching Terminator Salvation, it reminded me of the way the movie Wolverine was presented. It was almost as if they had a really good story board of the movie, added a couple of really intriguing wrinkles within one of the main characters, and eventually copped out to pulverizing us with CGI.
Movie was pathetic. Warning sign number 9 > everything. Its clear that no one was thinking when they made this. Worthington was the only thing that made it watchable. So many awful hanging sub-plots. So much that made no sense. Made T3 look like a masterpiece.
There was a lot that I didn't like about the script, but I have to disagree on one thing. They did introduce a very subtle but interesting theme. Without spoilers, it can be summed up as: to fight a war, you must not become the enemy.
That element alone had promise for a good script, but it was poorly executed and took a backseat to the overly Hollywood-action that made up a bulk of the movie.
Here's the thing. T2 should have officially ended this "franchise".However the sutdios wanted more money out of it so they crapped out T3.
Now that the franchise is back we can't expect these new movies to be "good" becuase by all rights they should not exist. Really all the themes were covered perfectly in T1 and T2 so what did we expect ? This movie was meant to be CGI extravaganza of what the war would look like. Salvation was exactly that and nothing else.
id say its up there! i just saw it! and i WASNT DISAPOINTED! but some reviews were right. it was lacking a lil in "plot" but why wouldnt it!? the previous were of coming up to the war, now the war is here! so lets fight! rawr!
If this movie can pull of a stable beginning to a 3 movie series addition, then I will happy because once you have these characters established then McG can flesh them out just like Cameron did with T2. Yeah, seeing Reese die in T1 sucked but I didn't feel as bad as I did for John losing his father figure terminator in T2. That was some great writing and atmosphere. Linda Hamilton was pretty bad ass too...
i agree with you mpc alot of movies today focus waaayyyy too much on the action and not so much dialoge or a good script at all, like wolverine origins, the movie was bad, but a little more storytelling would be better. it's also sad that alot of ppls don't really care as long as it has good action.
I recently got Terminator I and II on VHS (Got them from a friend who discovered them laying around in some box in his basement, and he gave them all away), and I have to say that watching first Terminator movie I have to say that that film was a masterpiece of sci-fi, character development, and setting. All of the characters were just perfect and those flashback scenes, despite being visibly a bunch of minitures floating around on strings, were still pretty damn impressive.
(PART 2), and I was convinced that what was going on there could have really happened to a person. Yes I know that RL laser weaponry would be more accurate than that (they are in development in RL), but still, just seeing it in those old-style special effects really makes me long for a simpler, more organic time in movie making. Nowadays I KNOW exactly how the special effects are made, but at the time when computer graphics were far and few between, I really did wonder how they pulled it all off
Why are you so awesome TMPC? I feel like a learn something about movies every time I watch, great job and from what I have heard so far TS seems to be what you predicted.
When I first saw the trailer of this, I echoed your statement about it only being about effects. I'm probably not going to see this unless it's with friends, since their doesn't seem to be much substance here. Which is sad because T2 is one of my favorite movies. But maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised with a well written, and in some way character driven movie.
Here's an issue thats been bothering me since T2 was released. If John C was born in 1984, then shouldnt he be 7 in 1991? Cause in the film, hes 13. So unless T2 was supposed to take place in 1997 (when Judgement Day was supposed to happen) then that is a HUGE continuity error.
T3 changed the age of John Connor from 10 to 13 when he met the Terminator(Dont ask me why, probably to make continuity errors in the series) and T2 took place in 1994.
I believe T2 took place in 1995. In The Terminator, John Connor was conceived in the summer of '84. Therefore he had to born in 1985 and he was 10 years old in T2.
Can this film compete with my childhood 'freaked out my mind' imagination?
I find it kind strange, how T3 felt like the death of the franchise, right? Like the studio/masses didnt really even care anymore. Ex: Arnold shelled out 1 mil+ of his own so the'd do the firetruck chase scene in 3.
Now that Bale signed on, the film seemed to be pushed WAY harder than 3 was with the marketing.
If you havent Read this already. Cameron VS McG men.style.DOTcom/details/blogs/knowandtell/2009/04/mcg-whiz
I'll probably see this movie tomorrow with some friends. It looks like an awesome action flick but it probably won't be a great Terminator flick. But as long as it's better than T3 I'm fine. I just wish they didn't make the rating PG-13 :/
Wait, now what do you think now that the movie came out?

To sum up my 6-part rant on Terminator Salvation.
8.5 out of 10 - quality as popcorn movie. Special effects were pretty cool and the movie looked great.
5 out of 10 - quality as science fiction. It had an Independence Day kinda dumbing down of the material...perhaps to appease the junior high demographic.

Now that Bale signed on, the film seemed to be pushed WAY harder than 3 was with the marketing.

why do you always say first 2 when theres 3 movies
GeorgeBushSucks69 2 years ago
because first 2 is from original director and writer james cameron instead the 3rd one direct by someone else~

I'll probably see this movie tomorrow with some friends. It looks like an awesome action flick but it probably won't be a great Terminator flick. But as long as it's better than T3 I'm fine. I just wish they didn't make the rating PG-13 :/
