Can some one help? I have a 1984 Dodge Rampage Prospector but the trans-axle is broken. Well only the Reverse. I wanna take it apart and see if I can fix it. Only problem is that I'm not to confident on putting it back. Looking to get a "Haynes Repair Manual" but they don't have one for the Rampage only the Omini/Horizon, Plymouth, and Turismo. Do any of these have the same trans-axle? your help will be appreciated.
@moparmonster1965 Thanks for your comment. I got in an argument the other day with a ricer trying to talk trash about mopar, people have no idea whats what anymore. Big news, Direct Connection B/M supercharger in store for the Rampage next!
@gearheadgriffin I was actually being sarcastic there, because 1980s Chryslers are largely poorly assembled crap. I've owned a number of them ('81 Plymouth Reliant, two 1984 Dodge Ramchargers, 1987 Chrysler Lebaron). That said, all of the Japanese manufacturers are doing what Chrysler did 20 years ago.
The 2.2 can be made into a screamer if it's done right. There was a factory-sponsored Lebaron that was destroked to 2.0 that ran 198 all day long at Bonneville in the late 1980s.
@moparmonster1965 There is no doubt they are economy vehicles, but I wouldnt say they are complete crap, especially the L bodies. One thing that most all will agree on would be that the original carbs were no good. Like any car, take car of it and it will take care of you. When the engine is done and the body has paint, im sure you would think otherwise. But in general, an Omni comes no where close to a Dart Swinger or a late 60's Charger.
@gearheadgriffin I think the best thing about them is the interchangeability of parts; my Lebaron was a "J" body and shared almost everything with the "G" bodied Daytonas/Lasers. Even the big (11", think) minivan disks fit on it.
Yes, Gary Donovan was the first to push a Dodge Shadow into the 10s, but it was nowhere near stock, was it? Everything has to be upgraded in order to produce those numbers with these cars. Chrysler campaigned an '87 Lebaron at Bonneville that ran an average of 198 MPH, and while it was a stock body-class, the rest of the car was far from the one that I owned. It was destroked to 2.0, the interior completely gutted, and speacial wheels and tires, as I recall.
@The510chan Absolutely; the fit and finish on these cars was borderline offensive. They were cheap to build and operate, but that comes at a price. Cheap to buy means cheaper to build.
@MiSsCoRi96 If you take care of it, it should be fine. That is if its in running condition, other wise you will need to replace some things. Either way, parts are cheap and its a easy vehicle to work on! Good luck
@gearheadgriffin I definitely tried- I've always regretted not pushing the matter further, but the person selling it kind of flaked out on me and sold it to someone else out from under me. Would have LOVED to have had it. I was pretty bummed for a long time about it.
But I have an old Beetle for now though- I'm thinking I might trade it up for something a bit more unique like a dodge rampage if I can find one. ;)
@AnimaliaHolocaust I looked for over 2 years before I found my Rampage. I looked at every single car on craigslist, el camino's, darts, chargers, rancheros, opels, gremlins...even some super beetles. Enjoy what you have now, in the future you will find what your looking for. Nice guitar playing, checked out a few of your videos!
@DXsukIT Its really up to you, The Rampage is more efficient and cooler in my opinion. Its an 80's economy race car, but its also a truck. You can haul things around and still be in style. What year is the Stealth? The rampage gets 30+mpg, it was rated at 40+ on hwy. Also, the parts are pretty cheap if you could find them.
@bigassfordsd Glad theres another Rampage fan! I havent had much driving time with her quite yet but definatly one of the coolest trucks built for the economy and is also a little race truck.
a friend of mine has a direct connection rampage 1 of 2000 that were built he's parting it out its rusty but complete with hood scoop, roof spoiler, rocker panel ground effects, fender gills, red and black interior and 5spd
@Guitaranator2 When I first bought it, yes, it needed quite a bit of work to get her road ready. I rebuilt the engine once, head gasket, egr, carb rebuilt, fuel pump, all new hoses and filters, the engine is just about done. Then onto new quarters, bondo, tires, and paint. Thanks for viewing!
hey nice wheels! don't forget to check the unibody for rust they didn't galvanize the chassis when they were built so they are prone to rusting out, goodluck
I can't wait to see what you do with the car! I am sure that it is going to be great. I have a 2005 Ford 500 that I can't-don't want to-sell. It is the only year that they made that model. I love it.

There's a Plymouth Scamp GT here for 400 dollars.
I might get it.. Not to restore ^^; I just need something to get me to school and back.
AnimaliaHolocaust 1 year ago
@AnimaliaHolocaust Did you get it? The Scamp GT is very rare, they only made them in 1983. There was less than 3000 built, and even less GT's!

1984 was the only year the Rampage could be had with the Pentastar on the top of the grille, as the Rampage would be discontinued for 1985.
