  • hi, Thanks for the constructive criticism, but I am a balanced trainer, meaning I use positive and negative re-enforcement. So although I will never have anything to say about your methods...we are completely different. The reason I reward the "sit" is cause I NEVER stop training previous lessons....so although we are learning heeling, Dexter still needs to know that sitting nicely at my left when i stop is a WANTED behavior. What I taught him the last week.

  • @BeyondTheLeashk9, I understand you are showing in these videos how you teach Dexter. He seems to be learning fast. But do you have any suggestions on how to deal with an over-excited puppy during walks? I walk my 15-week old hyperactive pup to allow her to release built up energy. But she gets too distracted by her over-excitement during our walks that I am not able to teach her because she is not able to listen to my commands.

  • @osang828 You may be asking too much too soon, but without actually seeing you interact with the pup it would be hard for me to assess. I would start from my "sit and release" video number 1....if your pup can learn to maintain a solid "sit at heel", then if the pup starts to get overexcited due to distraction....you stop and have the dog "sit" at your left side for a bid to calm her down. early on in my group classes if things get crazy..i command halt...so we get a fresh start.

  • Not bad, if you dont mind, just a few suggestions, who cant use them anyways?

When teaching heel, 80% of the rewards should come while walking, most of the times you used an actual reward (not just a mark) your dog was in a sit. It's important to reward while moving, that is the behaviour you are trying to teach. The heel word seems to have been introduced too early, we train the behaviour, and add the word after. Other then that, not a bad video.
