@skat0r it's called back burning or burn out operations. When we set these fires, we set them with a barrier in place. Depending how you want to do it, you can set fire with a lot of heat or less heat (this all depends on weather). You are controlling the fuel loading which in turn is controlling the head of the fire making it less destructive and slower paced, thus protecting you constructed line or barrier.
Great video and especially with that sound turned off.
