When I was a little boy, my dad would play the Gayaneh ballet suite again and again in the living room as my brother and I would drift off to sleep. It was the very first classical CD I ever purchased for myselfI could listen to it a thousand times and never tire of it. My only regret is that when I pass from this earth I won't be able to experience it ever again. Thanks for putting it up here. Happy Holidays all.
@GeoffBurt08 - Aww, I'm sure Heaven will allow Khachaturian's music to be played. I too must have good music or I won't be happy in Heaven. Have faith! ;- )
in order to understand the music you have to learn/study//the culture of that nation so that you can get the real feeling of the music specially when that music has the ethnic flavor that is the difference between Arams and composer like him and other composers. there is a nostalgia in this piece that comes from armenian history of being forgotten victims of turks and other barbaric nations
it seems at once to be a lament and a rejoicing - full of grace and sorrow, mystery and hope. it moves me every time i hear it. thank you for the upload!
His masterpiece! Aram truly was a giant--I only wish we could hear more of him in the West. Seattle is all-too rarely treated to this wonderful music. Thanks for sharing this fine performance. Kurt.
@kurtarmbruster real true masterpiece..real only real one by great Aram khachaturian ..i feel like coming to ARMENIA AND DONATE FOR HIS CHILDHOOD SCHOOL WHERE HE STUDIED HIS MUSIC COMPOSITION WORK..REAL WELL AND TEH GREAT COMPOSER AS WELL AS CONDUCTOR AROUND THE GLOBE...jzpatelut...
@kurtarmbruster I love his music too, but I like the fact that he is a little under the radar in the west. I feel like his music is a beautiful secret
@arakhachatran FROM JZPATELUT....PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT ARAM KACHATURIAN IS MY MAIN HERO AS WELL AS MUSIC GOD FATHER..LET ME UNDERSTAND YOUR CLAIM WITH GOOD REASON....I AM WELL WISHER OF ARAM KACHATURIAN.....jzpatelut...MUMBAI...INDIA......
He is the most famous Armenian all over the world in 20th century. He is everybody's hero in Armenia. But you see our neighbors azeris are very envious. They think every tune in the world was composed by their the only composer Uzeyir whoever (by the way , all their musicians used to be from armenian populated Karabakh, so our genes talk!)
так и будет.всегда так и было.и будет.воровство наверно ваше национальное достояние

Quite so, I understand! Still, we get occasional tastes. Our Seattle Symphony is doing the Violin Concerto later this year. A wonderful ear he had!

@tarmat It's not a song! I bet you are quite young. For some reason a lot of young people call classical pieces of music "songs."
